So I am traveling to kathmandu for a couple of weeks and would like to be able to stay connected to my work in US, specially dial into meetings/teleconferences using the toll-free 800 numbers.  Since the US 800 numbers are toll free, I am hoping there is a way to dial them from ktm landlines without needing an expensive ISD international calling.

Has anyone tried calling an 800 number from your house in Nepal? Are there other ways to make the connection (gmail phone)?

well if you have a google number you can either use it via web browser or a smar phone app.. You can text or talk like a normal phone.. All you need is a good internet connection.. im assuming since you are working from here,, you would have a good  internet connection

Or get a majicjack from bestbuy or any other place. Return it if you dont like it. Or your parents can use it to call you, Get the one that connects to modems directly. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MagicJack+-+PLUS+USB+Phone+Jack/4088947.p;jsessionid=A538B4F2B20978BCDF8C0E9D3BAA1808.bbolsp-app02-28?id=1218454591639&skuId=4088947&st=majic%20jack&cp=1&lp=1
