The award announced at a press conference in the capital on Saturday carries a purse of Rs. 1 million and letter of appreciation.
Sharma, who resigned as the VC recently, is credited with the growth of KU as a reputed institution providing quality education. The university also draws hundreds of students from outside Nepal.
The award was established in 2010 by Rotary International District 3292-Nepal with cash assistance from late Gopal Raj Bhandari's family to honour his contribution to the Rotary movement in Nepal along with different social works. Raj Bhandari was one of the founding members of the Rotary movement in Nepal in 1957 and contributed to Rotary’s activities for a long time.
The award, which is given every two years, will be conferred to Sharma by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav amid a function at Shital Niwas on Tuesday. President of Rotary International Sakuji Tanaka will also be present in the award function.
First Gopal-Kamala Raj Bhandari Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence was given to Dr Ram Kantha Makaju, the founder of Dhulikhel Hospital in Kavre, in 2010. It is one of the biggest social service awards in Nepal.
HE IS THE MAN, CONGRATULATION DR SHARMA.
