If someone is married in the US and file for a divorce, what are the legal consequences of it in Nepal. Can such a divorce be settled by a Nepalese court once it's settled here. What happens to the property and other financial obligations? Is the wife entitled to half the husbands property in the event of a divorce? The divorce here is happening under mutual consent.

A close relative of mine is married to a Green Card holder but is now seeking divorce. He wants to know if the divorce will mean if he would have to give up half his wealth to the wife. The wife is also a Nepalese citizen.

Thanks,
Kari

You're better off seeking an attorney's help rather than relying on somebody's 'opinion' and mere suggestions.

Good luck!

Both are neplease citizen and falls under nepals Jurisdiction . She will be getting it if she wishes to.

Better get all matters related to proper documented consentual divorce. May be some kind of consent or bond saying she won't be claiming any property and will not file any case back home might work.

With more rights for women in Nepal, I think in the near future, she can also claim one of the husband's 2 kidneys.
Just kidding!. You need to get a lawyer in Nepal who will guide you.
