My passport is expiring in the next 6 months, however I do not plan on going to Nepal for at least 2 more years. I was wondering if I need to renew my passport BEFORE it expires according to Nepali law or can I renew my passport when I want to after it has expired?

My rationale is, if I wait 2 years to renew it, my passport renewal date will be pushed back 2 years. I do not plan on going anywhere out of the US in the next two years so rather than get a new passport and let it collect dust I am thinking of renewing the passport when I need it.

Please share your suggestions and any situation related to my question.

I'm not sure if airline agencies will issue tickets without a valid passport. What if you had to leave in emergency? I was on the same boat but I had to get it renewed as I'm traveling to Montreal in May (the entire process took 7 weeks). I'd renew my passport if I were you (only if it's confirmed that you won't be able to fly back without a valid passport, else, there's no point renewing it right now).

to answer your question, yes you can renew even after your passport is expired but what if you have emergency ?
Why the fk would you wait until it's expired ?
