'नेपालमै बन्नसक्छ स्मार्टफोन'
क्यालिफोर्निया– नेपालमा उपलव्ध दक्ष र सस्तो इन्जिनियरिङ जनशक्तिलाई परिचालन गर्न सकेमा मोबाइल सेटको उत्पादन गर्न सकिने धारणा सूचना प्रविधि क्षेत्रका प्राविधिकहरुले बताएका छन्। 'नेपालमा मोबाइल सेटको बजार बढ्दो क्रममा छ, त्यसो हुँदा नेपालमै स्मार्टफोनको उत्पादन गर्न सक्छौं,' इन्टेल कर्पोरेसनमा कार्यरत नेपाली इन्जिनियर प्रमोद पौडेलले भने । कम्प्युटर एसोसिएसन अफ नेपाल (क्यान) युएसए र अमेरिकन सोसाइटी अफ नेप्लिज इन्जिनियर्सको संयुक्त आयोजनामा शनिबार यहाँ आयोजित कार्यक्रममा उनले २५ देखि ४५ अमेरिकी डलरको लागतमा नेपालमै स्मार्टफोन बनाउन सकिने दावी गरे।
'वर्षेनी झण्डै पाँचहजार आइटी इन्जिनियरहरु नेपालका बिभिन्न कलेजहरुबाट उत्पादन भैरहेका छन्, तिनीहरुलाई उपयोग गरेर नेपालमै स्मार्टफोन उत्पादन गर्न सकिन्छ,' उनले भने। पौडेलले नेपाल सरकारले उपयुक्त वातावरण दिने हो भने देशमै स्मार्टफोन उत्पादन गरेर सस्तोमा बिक्री गर्न सकिने बताए।
विदेशी स्मार्टफोन कम्तिमा ७-८ हजार रुपैयाँ पर्नुका साथै नेपाली परिवेश अनुसारका एप्सहरु समेत उपलव्ध हुँदैनन्। त्यसो हुँदा नेपालको बजार ठूलो रहेकोले किसान, विद्यार्थी, शिक्षकका लागि उपयुक्त एप्सहरु विकास गर्न सकेमा मोबाइलको ठूलो बजार रहेको हुँदा त्यसतर्फ अघि बढ्न उनीहरुले औंल्याए।
अहिले नेपाली बजारमा ४८ प्रतिशत हिस्सा नोकियाको छ। त्यस्तै २५ प्रतिशत सामसङ, १० प्रतिशत एप्पल, ५ प्रतिशत एचटिसीको छ। बाँकी बजार सोनी, एलजी, व्ल्याकबेरी र चिनिया सेटले लिएका छन्।
उत्तरी छिमेकी चीन र दक्षिणको भारतबाट समेत नेपालले सिकेर स्थानीय परिवेश अनुसारका एप्लिकेसनहरु बनाउन सकेमा नेपालमा अझै पनि मोबाइलको ठूलो बजार रहेको विज्ञहरुले बताएका थिए । तर पटक पटक भैरहने बन्द हड्ताल, लोडसेडिङ, राजनीतिक अस्थिरताले गर्दा नेपालमै स्मार्टफोन उत्पादन गरेर देखाउन चाहने लगानीकर्ताहरु पछि हटेको विज्ञहरुले उल्लेख गरे।
भारतले चीनको हार्डवयर र एन्ड्रोइडको अपरेटिङ सिस्टमबाट स्मार्टफोनको क्षेत्रमा निकै ठूलो विकास गरेको छ। नेपालमा पनि प्राविधिक जनशक्ति, ठूलो बजार र खुल्ला सफ्टवयरको उपलव्धताले गर्दा स्मार्टफोनको क्षेत्रमा निकै ठूलो फड्को मार्नसक्ने संभावना रहेको विज्ञहरुको भनाइ थियो।
नेपालको सूचना प्रविधिको क्षेत्रमा रहेका समस्या र त्यसको समाधान गर्न अमेरिकाभरि रहेका इन्जिनियरहरुले शनिबार दिनभरि छलफल गरे। इन्टेलको प्रधान कार्यालय सान्टाक्लारामा आयोजित कार्यक्रममा बिभिन्न अमेरिकी आइटी कम्पनीहरुमा कार्यरतदेखि लिएर विश्वविद्यालययका प्राध्यापकहरुले नेपालको सूचना प्रविधि क्षेत्रलाई अघि बढाउन सहयोग गर्ने प्रतिवद्धता जनाए।
'समृद्ध जीवनको लागि इन्जिनियरिङ, विज्ञान तथा प्रविधि' विषयमा आयेजित कार्यक्रममा नेपाली इन्जिनियरहरुले २० वटा कार्यपत्रहरु प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए।
प्राकृतिक प्रकोपको समयमा सञ्चारको क्षेत्र तहस नहस हुनसक्ने भएकोले त्यसको लागि अहिलेदेखिनै तयार रहन प्राविधिहरुले ह्याम रेडियो लगायतका प्रविधि प्रयोगमा ल्याउन सुझाव दिएका छन्। पछिल्लो समयमा सूचना तथा सञ्चार मन्त्रालयले तयार गरेको फ्रिक्वेन्सी नीतिमा ह्याम रेडियोको लागि फ्रिक्वेन्सी व्यबस्था नगरेकोमा प्राविधिहरुले सरकारको त्रुटी औंल्याए।
कार्यक्रममा क्यान युएसएका अध्यक्ष आमोदकुमार पोखरेलले नेपाली इन्जिनियरहरुले संसारभरि बिभिन्न क्षेत्रमा प्रगति गरेर देखाएकोले नेपालमा सूचना प्रविधि, शिक्षा क्षेत्रमा गर्नसक्ने उल्लेख गरे। सूचना प्रविधिमा काम गर्ने जनशक्तिको उच्च मागलाई दृष्टिगत गरेर हालैमात्र २५ जना नेपालीलाई अमेरिकामै जाभा सफ्टवयर संबन्धि तालिम दिएको उनले जानकारी दिए।
उद्घाटन कार्यक्रममा क्यान युएसएका संस्थापक अध्यक्ष विनित शर्मा, कम्प्युटर एसोसिएसन अफ नेपाल (क्यान) का संस्थापनक अध्यक्ष बिमल शर्मा, अमेरिकन सोसाइटी अफ नेप्लिज इन्जिनियरका अध्यक्ष राजेन्द्र श्रेष्ठ लगायतले नेपालमा सूचना प्रविधिको क्षेत्रमा नयाँ काम गर्नुपर्ने आवश्यकतामा जोड दिएका थिए।
कार्यक्रममा नेपालबाट विज्ञान तथा प्रविधि मन्त्रालयका कामु सचिव शंकर अधिकारीले स्काइपबाट शूभकामना व्यक्त गरेका थिए। उनले सूचना प्रविधि नीति र १० बर्षिय योजनालाई सरकारले कार्यान्वयन गरिरहेको चर्चा गरेका थिए। क्यानका अध्यक्ष विनोद ढकालले सूचना प्रविधि क्षेत्रको आउटसोर्सिङका लागि तयार गर्नुपर्ने कार्यहरुका बारेमा कार्यदल गठन गरिएको र त्यसबाट यो क्षेत्र अझै व्यबस्थित हुने आशा राखे।
प्राकृतिक प्रकोपको समयमा सञ्चालनमा ल्याइने ह्याम रेडियोको पूर्वाधारका लागि सिस्कोका नेपाल प्रतिनिधि किशोर पन्थले १० हजार डलर दिने घोषणा गरे। ह्याम रेडियोको पूर्वाधार तयार गर्न ४० हजार डलर खर्च लाग्ने क्यान युएसएका कार्यसमिति सदस्य सुरेश ओझाले उल्लेख गरेका थिए। ह्याम रेडियोको पूर्वाधारका लागि नेपाली प्राविधिकहरुले समेत आवश्यक रकम सहयोग गर्ने प्रतिवद्धता जनाएका थिए।
भारत र चीन जस्ता सूचना प्रविधि क्षेत्रमा अग्रणी स्थान लिइरहेका मुलुकबाट नेपालले फाइदा लिनसक्ने भएकोले त्यसका लागि उचित वातावरण बनाउन विज्ञहरुले सुझाव दिएका थिए।
नेपालको टेलिमेडिसिन क्षेत्रको विकासका लागि समेत अमेरिकामा रहेका नेपाली प्राविधिकहरुले आगामी दिनमा सहयोग गर्ने प्रतिवद्धता जनाएका छन्।

Excited to find such organization here. Would love to contribute if any such companies are started in Nepal. Its not impossible but we may need a large investment at first. We don't need to do worry about fabrication because we can outsource that to Taiwan at a very low price.
All we need is training at first and some professionals to make a start.

I stopped reading it after I read this "पौडेलले नेपाल सरकारले उपयुक्त वातावरण दिने हो भने देशमै स्मार्टफोन उत्पादन गरेर सस्तोमा बिक्री गर्न सकिने बताए।" Specially "नेपाल सरकारले उपयुक्त वातावरण दिने". Hope OP understood why I stopped reading it after that.

Why do you think US stopped producing smart phones, including IPhones and the likes? Much of the technology and trained manpower has moved to the Asian powerhouse like Taiwan, China etc. To complement it, they even have plentiful mines of precious metals used in the semiconductor technology. The only thing working for Nepal would be cheap labor and even that is contingent upon no Nepal bandhs, load shedding etc. It's good to be hopeful, but it is equally important to be realistic. There are thousands of other projects that we can focus on, rather than focusing on entering a really competitive and saturated market with nothing to show for.

People should understand that when you say you 'manufacture smartphone', it doesn't mean just producing it. There are so many steps before it and manufacturing is the last step. Most of the designing stuffs (which is the main thing) happens in US. Menial jobs are outsourced to India, China and production is sent to Taiwan (most of the times). Hope this answers kiddo's post.
Another point to note is that Nepal produces the more no. of Electronics, Computer and Civil Engineers than any other branches. So obviously Electronics and Computer Engineers are in maximum number. If we see their careers, they either enter into Software jobs or NTC or very few big companies. My point is they never get to work on real semiconductor jobs while in Nepal. So if we can atleast start some sort of companies or invite some of them, we can train our manpower nicely. Then smartphone won't be far away, atleast designing them. Fabrication and production should be outsourced because that is more than a million dollar investement in itself.

Need to focus on tourism, garments etc where other south asians are competing. Look at Bangladesh, they alone have 20 billion dollar worth of garment export. If Nepalese could bring even 1% of that to Nepal, it would be great. I don't think these American and westerner businesses has not looked at exploiting Nepalese workforce but they know because of instability and no basic infrastructure they are not able to commit. All we need is stable and liberal government who focus on economy. It is easily achievable but yet not achievable in current situation.

बन्न सक्छ कि सक्दैन भन्ने कुरा बजार र समान को खास मूल्य कति हो भन्ने कुरा मा पनि भर पर्छ , आइ फोन खास महँगो पर्दैन भन्ने कुरा apple कम्पनी संग अहिले १०० बिलियेन डलर भन्दा बढी नगद मौज्दात हुनु ले पनि पुस्टि गर्छ नेपाल मा आइ फोन ६५-७० हजार साएद ( अन्दाज मात्र हो)
अब नेट मा खोज्दा एउटा आइ फोन को पार्ट्स को मूल्य अन्दाजी १६७ पर्दो रैछ , तर त्यो करोडौ बनाउदा होला, थोरै बनाउदा दोब्बर अर्थात् ३३४ त पर्ला
अब तेस्मा सुरुमा, tooling /training /assembling building लागि पानि पैसा चाहिन्छ, आइ फोन भन्दा आलि कम क्वालिटी को बनायो भने (जस्तै अलुमिनियम/मग्नेसियम कभर को सत्ता प्लास्टिक को कभार ) सस्तो पर्छ
ज्याला अलि महंगो पर्ला तर तेस्मा नया मोडेल प्रयोग गर्न पर्छ , बनेको आइटम अनुसार ज्याला ) नकि समय अनुसार)
अर्को option पानि छ ताइवान मा assemble गर्न दिने कि ताइवान बाट पार्ट्स मगाएर नेपाल मा पेच कस्दा सस्तो पर्ला ?

i dont believe nepal has the technology and capability to build a smartphone.
nepal should first focus on producing low tech products like air conditioner, microwave ovens, refrigerator, solar panels which have become the basic necessities apart from gas(food), bas(shelter) and kapas(clothes).

The price of iphone is not determined by the sum of price of its materials. If it was every person could buy those things from the market and make an iphone. Majority of the price is consumed by the research and design stuffs done by engineers.
This applies to all the electronic goods available in market.

Yes if it is governments endeavor they should concentrate on solar panels, refrigerator , electricity, irrigation, tourism etc.no doubt about that. But if it is private endeavour, any body can try things which are profitable. private sector just need some support from government which is not possible in case of Nepal.
If there is a possibility of making money private sector will come forward. They will first try easy things, like cement factory, guaranteed market, easy to established etc.

I agree for new products main cost is R&D. For any new products company spend time and money and when product is Marseillaise, they will price the product a) how much they spent on R&D,b) what is the production cost and c) and expected response from market, depending on these three price can go up and low.
that is why in the beginning price of basic model is high, because companies wants profit.
example is cholesterol lowering medicine Lipitor, developed by Pfizer almost 22 yrs ago, it took Pfizer 10 yrs to develop lipitor and they spent almost 1 billion dollar for the development of that drug. so they charged hefty price for that drug. patent expired on November 2011, Pfizer profit dropped about 19% . Now generic lipitor are being produced by many companies, and they can afford lipitor in Nepal. before it used to be very expensive.
In case of smart phone, we already know market is there, materials are there, and many designs to choose from, we just need to make sure that it is not 100% duplicate, just to avoid lawsuit. So, very little R&D is required here, and that will not translate into expensive product.
