अंग्रेजी बोल्न नआएर धेरैले उडाएका सुदर्शन सुवेदीजीको असाध्यै राम्रो पढ्नै पर्ने जवाफ:

पत्रकारिताको धर्म यही हो ? अमेरिकामा यस्तै हुन्छ कि कुन्नि! मलाई अंग्रेजी नजानेकोमा कुनै दुःख छैन ! मैले अंग्रेजी बोल्न जान्नु र नजान्नु प्रसंगमा संसारभर बस्ने नेपाली दाजु भाइ दिदी बहिनीहरुले राखेको धारणा पढ्दै गर्दा मन बुझाउन पुरानो याद ताजा गर्न मेरो फोटोपत्र पल्टाएँ। मलाई संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ पुर्‍याउन योगदान गर्ने यी समुदाय मेरो प्रेरणाका पात्रहरु, जहां घर-घरमा चन्दा उठाएर यी भाइबहिनी पाल्ने पढाउने कार्य भएको छ। मेरो जीवन १४ वर्षको उमेरदेखि यस्तै कार्यमा बित्यो। अंग्रेजी फरर बोल्न र पढ्न कुनै आवश्यक्ता नै महसुस भएन मलाई। किनकि मैले कार्य गर्ने समुदायमा त नेपाली अनि थारु, मैथिली, नेवार, भोजपुरी, राई, लेप्चा, राउटे, जिरेललगायत थुप्रै स्थानीय भाषा बोलिन्छ। क्याम्पस जानु त मेरा लागि केवल भर्नाको दिन र परीक्षा दिने दिनमा मात्र थियो। बाँकी समय समुदायकै सेवामा। नेपालका सबैभन्दा गरिब अपाङ्गता भएका व्यक्तिहरुको समुदायमा कार्य गर्दा अंग्रेजी बोल्ने जरुरत कहिल्यै परेन मलाई। त्यो आवश्यकता पनि भएन। मानव अधिकार पुरस्कार, गैर आवासीय नेपालीहरुबाट परिवर्तनका सम्वाहक पुरस्कार, अशोका फेलोसिप आदि आदि पाउँदा पनि अंग्रेजी बोल्ने सूचक पक्कै थिएन होला, खोई कसैले यस विषयमा प्रश्न उठाएन। जीवनमा मैले धेरै सिक्नुछ, धेरै गर्नुछ, यो देशको लागि। मलाई अंग्रेजी नजानेकोमा कुनै दुःख छैन। भाषा भनेको संचार हो र संचार जसरी पनि गर्न सकिन्छ। म अंग्रेजी बोल्ने सीप भन्दा पनि कसरी अपाङ्गता भएका व्यक्तिहरुको जीवनमा परिवर्तन ल्याउन सकिन्छ भन्ने सीप सिक्न समय खर्चिन चाहन्छु। यस विषयमा अरु मलाई केही भन्नु छैन। मात्र फ्यउरो समाचार च्यानलले मलाई गिज्यायो। प्रश्न सरल ढंगबाट सोधिन्छ कि, अन्तर्वार्ता सहज तरिकाबाट लिइन्छ कि बाटोमा हिँडेको मानिसलाई जबर्जस्ती बोलाएर आफै अशिष्ट रुपमा सोधिन्छ? पत्रकारिताको धर्म यही हो ? अमेरिकामा यस्तै हुन्छ कि कुन्नि, चार दिनमात्र बसेर फर्कने मलाई यस विषयमा अनुभव भएन। (सुदर्शनजीको फेसबुकबाट)

The first time when I saw that video clip all over fb I felt sorry for those Nepali who were making fun of him.
I didn't know the background of this guy but I know fox news and bill o Reilly.Bill is a racist pig.Do u remember back in 2009 he had racist argument with snoop dog and he was unhappy with Dutch gvt when they issued visa to snoop dog in their country.Bill o Reilly is a most ignorant program host I have ever seen.And from that interview it was clearly shown that there were making fun of the UN guest.I bet if subedi had fluent English they would make fun of his accent.

It seems like this video has affected many Nepalese people in many different levels. It also points out the fact that different people in different societies have different sense of humor. In countries like North Korea, people can be jailed for making fun of politicians. In countries like Nepal, people can burn movie theaters when indian actors say wrong things about Nepal. In countries like America, people can make fun of the president and it's all fine and good.

There is no middle ground when it comes to poking fun at people but the common unwritten law is that when something is deemed funny, it's generally okay to laugh at it. We laugh at Russell Peters comedy making fun of different Chinese accents. Tap some bong it is, but when someone makes fun of a Nepali person's English, people are very defensive about it. The comedy is about the particular situation or circumstance. It should not go beyond that moment itself to make a huge outcry over something that can be perceived as funny by Americans. If a Nepali TV showed an American trying to speak Nepali but failing then it could be deemed funny by Nepalis but no American would be trying to dig out the history of that person and say he is Nobel Prize Winner he does not need to speak Nepali in Nepal. Why does everything need to be judged in the patriotic scale? Just because a Nepali was poked fun at, we have to defend him since we have such low self esteem collectively as Nepalis?

I guess we Nepali folks do not have too much sense of humor and  we do have a lot of time in our hands to make big issues about non issues. Don't get me wrong though. At the end of the day, we can take it as a win win situation because Mr. Subedi got a good publicity about his work and I hope there will be more people who will be interested in helping handicapped Nepalis.

All he had to do was "Sorry, No English" and walk away just like a Black dude did. Instead he decided to stay around the FOX guy (like children in Nepalese village, when they see white people with camera ....hello sir...hello sir...)and waited to be 'look stupid' in front of camera.

Do you ever feel that he can do whatever the fog he wants do and it's none of your business to tell him what to do?
