My take on this is that this article seems highly politically motivated. Issues that wouldn't pertain to a normal voter's concerns are being raised as if that's the biggest issue of any of the leaders. Do we really care if they could run with their party name but had to resort to independent seats? Have we forgotten that the rule to collect over 100,000 signatures was instituted to deter the parties like Bibeksheel specifically? Not sure if I should've expected any more from mysansar, but lately they appeared to be a little non-biased, but alas.

They do raise a good point about one of the candiate and his derivative business in Nepal (Himalaya article on him). It'd be nice if anybody from Bibeksheel (ideally Santosh P) comes here and clarifies his stance on this controversy.

People do not understand the concept of deriatives market. In derivtives market you only bet on the possible gain or loss amount of the commodity for the specific timeline. For eg: Gold is trading at $1300 per OZ right now. If you think it will be $1400 per OZ by Jan 2014, you can  just invest $50 (estimated) for all the profit from $1300 to $1400 By Jan 2014. If it goes to $1400 then you made$50 on your $50 investment, which is 100% return on your investment.

To break even on this bet you need Gold to be at $1350 by Jan 2015, anything below $1300 by Jan 2014 will give you a 100% loss on your investment. That is what many in Nepal are not understanding i think. When you lose the bet you lose 100% of your investment. So instead of $50, if one wagers 50 lakhs and he is wrong, he loses all of it. Its not like buying a house or physical gold. In this investment you only bet on the margins of an asset.

So its not just Santosh Pradhan's crime on this one. He is in to make money. Clearing house/brokarage scams happens in developed countries too. But the question about them helping Mao could be real. I think mysansar news is quite logical. Beside Mao party is the richest party in Nepal and its quite logical for the capital market to answer to the richest team.

There might be some truth to the point that people bet money without understanding the derivative game. But read the Himal article, it's just not about losing in a simple bet. The accusations need good refuting.

As for 4 candidates helping Maoists, it's the matter of correlation vs causation. All of the candidates are running from their respective home-constituencies. If they were to share anybody's vote, I'd assume it'd be maoists. That conspiracy theory is just utter nonsense IMO.

I read the article. The article is focused on how and what amount people lost in the derivative market. It is not specific to how Santosh scammed them. People are in disbelief how quickly they were losing 10 lakhs over night. There is a billion dollars of win and lose within 30 seconds of crucial news coming out. Check out the Gold prices on FED Monetary policy that comes out at 2 PM eastern each month. Gold moves $50 - $100 within 30 seconds at 2 PM. Someone trading from Nepal without any clue of golbal derivative market is supposed to get slaughtered.

One thing to consider is that the commodities market is a trillion dollar market. No brokerage house with 7 karod capital is going to influence the market prices. They may confuse people with the news feed and such for couple days but not for long time. They may freeze your accounts short term for their benefit but mostly the loses should hapen because the gamblers bet incorrectly. The commodities market are scammed by Goldman Sachs, JP morgans, Merryl Lynch and morgan stanle....NOT SOME STUPID NEPALI Exchange worth 7 karod.

I dont know about the law in Nepal, but they were/are definately involved in *UNETHICAL* business practice. (Presenting pros and hiding risks). This can easily interpreted as looting. That makes KUKURs hyena on deer skin.

I know few who make profit out of comodities market here in US. But I never heard of anyone in Nepal making a penny out of this. I personally know few people who lost tons on these scams. Even people who made money were denied payments for certain period of time (according Himal article).
