Hello Guyz,

I need suggestion regarding OPT to CPT transition

Here is my little background,

Graduated from college last December, currently  working in IT field for past few months. My OPT expires on February before that i want to join college just for the sake of maintaining my immigration status. I know a lot of fellow Nepali have already been this situation so I am hoping to get some good feedback.

I have already applied and been accepted for goldey-beacom college(they provide CPT in first sem). I have not yet transferred my SEVIS because i want to continue work with the company. After joining college i want to work in CPT.

but here is the deal though, Once i transfer my SEVIS i think my opt will also expire. So what should i do so that i can still continue to work. How did you guyz worked thorough this situation. So, How does OPT to  CPT thing works?

 kind suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Dear Daami

Yes, once you get transferred to the college, your OPT will expire.

"So what should i do so that i can still continue to work. How did you guyz worked thorough this situation ? "

Your college would issue a CPT only when their semester starts.

Colleges will issue CPT only when their semester starts. So if you get transferred now and their session starts on January then you must have to take few days off from your work from the date you get transferred. Please consult with your college adviser to find out the last day of sevis transfer and initiate the sevis transfer FEW DAYS AHEAD Of  THAT DATE. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY. IF YOU PASS THAT DATE THEN THEY MIGHT NOT ADMIT YOU

Remember its always better to be safe than being sorry.

you can take few days off or may be a week until your school issue a cpt.

This is merely an advice. Please do what you think is the best.

Our best wishes. :) :) :)
