Has anyone heard of OPT problems due to a student graduating with more online classes than on-campus classes ? I have been taking extra online classes to complete my graduate degree sooner. Recently a friend told me that my OPT application will be rejected if I take more online classes than on-campus classes. I was wondering if there is a rule that states that the number of on-campus classes must be higher than online classes. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks teroobaau,
I received an email from my adviser a while ago and she said "to obtain an OPT you must have at least 50% of the courses taken in class". We have quarter system in my university and for the Graduate level we just need 6 credit hours (2 classes) to be full time. I am taking one class online and one in-class each quarter. I wanted to take one online class during summer but looks that that will cause problem to obtain OPT as number of classes taken online will exceed no of classes taken in-class.

Few things:
1. DHS will have no knowledge of your online classes unless you mention it.
2. If your transcript doesn't specify that the credit classes you took were online then you are good.
3. Your academic advisor might not have much knowledge about the international F-1 requirements. In case your international advisor notices that you have taken more than 6 cr hrs online and suggests you to drop that extra class then you are better off dropping that class.

As an F1/F1-CPT student, you cannot take more than one online class (3 credit max) per term. You might get RFE while applying OPT or H1B.
