if you want to start business in any field, you need atleast one of the two things : large capital or lots of experience. since you dont have experience in import/export, you need large capital. if you can fulfill that criteria, spend some money and hire right/experienced people and start your business.

Hi Jemesh, Been there, done that. Here's my experience. If you are physically based in the US, it will be extremely difficult to run an import export business with Nepal. You cannot be in two places at the same time. And if you stay in one place, either in Nepal or in the US, and have someone at the other place to take care of the other side of business, that someone needs to have the same vision, same work ethics and honesty as you do. Otherwise your business will fail. In Nepal it is very difficult to find such a person. You will soon realise that the way people think and operate in Nepal professionally is completely different from the way people do in western countries. But I disagree with Bairaghi on both his points. If you have no experience in business, it is not a problem. You will learn. You will make mistakes but if you are a smart person you will learn. You don't need a big capital. So start small. You are less likely to lose a lot in case you make some mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and keep moving ahead. For a longtime, I was also looking for a business partner in Nepal to export things. But not having anyone in business in my immediate family, I could only rely on distant relatives and some young nepalese entrepreneurs. But soon I realised that our work ethics did not match and in a country where transactions are not computerized, I could not count on the honesty of my business partner. So my business failed. But goodluck to you.

hi jemesh, which items you were dealing with your business? may be handicrafts?? in my opinion no export, only import goods from third country to US. This should be fine. I can help you in Nepal. I travel to US frequently.
