Ola,

hey this is a repost from a diff thread. it has to do with first and last love.

Grey Skies:
-------------
in the late afternoon the sky turned grey and in no time it started raining. we were at the Sankha park in Maharajgunj. we ran to a shed. her white kurta was somewhat wet. there were some strangers on the other shed. the thing about nepali strangers is that they don't act like strangers. they gawk at you if they see you walking down the road holding hands with your girlfriend. once, S. and i were on a safa tempo and a middle-aged gentleman on the other side arched his eyebrows to a frown when he saw S. whispering on my ears. that is public display of affection in nepal. so anyways i could feel the gawking eyes of those strangers on my back as i stood there with her. we had been seeing each other for some time. i reached and pushed back a wet strand of her hair and embraced her. it was awkward. but the rain was pouring now and i felt as if there was noone else around as if the rain had enveloped us in our own private enclave. she rested her head on my chest. then she looked up to me. her eyes- the lakes of eager yearning - looked at me as i had never been looked at. those eyes would continue watching me even when all the others stopped. somehow our lips found each other. somebody told me love can never be planned. a kiss- it also just happens. in the evening when i was returning back to my home, my lips were still burning. and also burned into my heart was the memory of her poignant eyes, like searchlights they had found me. time passed, i left nepal and we were strangers.

blue eyes:
------------
so this is the story of my life- i meet a perfect person and find out she is moving away. or i move away. A. and i were in the same class all the spring semester. we had read and critiqued each other's poems on the group workshops. but i started talking to her in earnest on the last week of school. it is not that i had not noticed her before. there was noway you could not notice her. she had blue eyes and she wore bead necklaces and those colorful apparel with South American tinge. so when we started talking i was crushed to find out that she was graduating at the end of the semester and moving back to her family in Iowa. she was a spanish and english creative writing major. she had spent a semester in Costa Rica and she told me of a guy there who had fallen for her. she told me how while they were walking in a wooded park,he had fallen on his knees and produced a white rose from under his shirt and said," this is a rose and it will never whither, never fade." she said she almost believed him. i told her how i had learned that my ex-girlfriend S. back home had just gotten married. she laughed and asked if that was the reason why all my poems were so morbid. she said reading Pablo Neruda in Spanish could not be compared to the the rhymeless English translations. I went to see her choir perform their final performance at the local church. from the group of so many women singing the only one i saw was A. she sang beautifully. she looked pretty in the black gown. the semester ended and most of my friends left for summer jobs. she stayed in the dorms. she had a final project to finish. so she stayed on for some days. i would walk between the four walls of my apartment and look at the phone. when she finally called i let it ring for atleast three times not to sound so desparate. we talked. the last night that she was staying in campus she called and invited me to finish the pie that she had got from Bakers Square. i drove to her dorm and it was like a ghost house. the parking lot was empty and the lights were all turned off. she let me in to her room. we ate and we talked. she lay on her bed and i sat at the foot of the bed. i crossed my arms tight because i could no longer trust my hands- they were eager to just reach and touch heaven. so you may have noticed this thing with Americans- they care nothing about a thoughtless quickie but tell them about love and they go into this subterfuge of months and months of "i don't even know you" syndrome. but this being the last night, i told her that i would not forgive myself if i atleast did not tell her how i felt. she smiled. and closed her eyes. without my own violition i reached and touched her lips with mine. she yielded gently. her lips were soft and quivering, time stopped.

time flew again and once again everyone was a stranger.

You know that the person can be the one...with your mind, heart and soul. You realize that their is a romantic love, a love a duty, a love of passion and a love of your soul. Hopefully, you feel all the dimensions of this love or you choose what is most important to you.

You know that the person can be the one...when you decide that she/he is the one. There are many great people in this world and it's a matter of you and the other person being ready and willing to commit to something mutually beneficial.

You know when you want to work at something together where relationships are work, full of sharing and effort to enjoy each others company when you rather be by yourself or with someone else.

You know when you compliment this person to the fullest and the person does that for you. You aren't looking for the perfect someone, but the perfect someone for you.

You know when you have built something together that means something. The relationship come from a healty foundation of trust, respect and love.

You know when time tells you that this is the person.

It's hard to know. You can graph it, bar chart it, but you'll slowly know when you know.

Here are some stories and quotes about this topic:

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift. When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait or it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one
chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. Always put yourself in others' shoes.
If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Once upon a time there was an island where all the feelings lived:
happiness, sadness, knowledge, and all the others, including love.

One day it was announced to all of the feelings that the island was
going to sink to the bottom of the ocean.

So all the feelings prepared their boats to leave.
Love was the only one that stayed.
She wanted to preserve the island paradise until the last possible moment.

When the island was almost totally under, love decided it was time to leave.

She began looking for someone to ask for help.

Just then Richness was passing by in a grand boat.
Love asked, "Richness, Can I come with you on your boat?"
Richness answered, "I'm sorry, but there is a lot of silver and gold
on my boat and there would be no room for you anywhere."

Then Love decided to ask Vanity for help who was passing in a
beautiful vessel. Love cried out, "Vanity, help me please." "I can't
help you", Vanity said, "You are all wet and will damage my beautiful boat."

Next, Love saw Sadness passing by. Love said,
"Sadness, please let me go with you." Sadness answered, "Love, I'm sorry,
but, I just need to be alone now."

Then, Love saw Happiness. Love cried out, " Happiness,
please take me with you." But Happiness was so overjoyed that he
didn't hear Love calling to him.

Love began to cry. Then, she heard a voice say, "Come
Love, I will take you with me." It was an elder.

Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that she forgot to
ask the elder his name. When they arrived on land, the elder went
on his way. Love realized how much she owed the elder.

Love then found Knowledge and asked, "Who was it that
helped me?" "It was Time", Knowledge answered.
"But why did Time help me when no one else would?", Love asked.
Knowledge smiled and with deep wisdom and sincerity, answered,
"Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."
