While the stony torso of Bhanubhakta sits neglected -- dusty and dirty -- in front of Durbar High School across from Rani Pokhari in Kathmandu (I know this because I walk by that road at least three times a week), INLS's various chapters around the world (see the Sajha sidebar) have managed to celebrate Bhanu Jayanti . . . in places as diverse as Scotland to DC to various parts of Europe.

I am just amazed and impressed to grasp the extent of INLS's influence in Nepali communities around the world.

Way to go; and best wishes to INLS members.

World is getting smaller, ashu. It is such a irony that people who live in nepal hardy care about these matters. good to know that you bring up all these issues.

I can?t believe I missed this thread although I am life time member of Sajha :-)

Thank you Ashu ji, preeti ji, Ebaje ji and marisch ji for your good words.

I was looking for an old thread where we discussed improvements in annual Poetry Festival when I was President of INLS but was not able to find it and ran into this thread. I guess sajha no longer keeps archives.

There is no question that Sajha has also contributed in expansion of INLS Global Network. I would like to thank San ji again for his help and support to INLS. Here is first announcement made it Sajha in 2002 to call for Chapter and reps of INLS:
http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=4&ThreadID=5937

A simple idea at that time was to carry forward following education program (WNEP) in addition to establishing the tradition of celebrating Bhanu Jayanti etc in each Nepali community of Diaspora working together with local community and organizations:
http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/newsdetail.cfm?itemid=418

A Nepali School in DC called "School of Languages and Cultures of Nepal" was formally inaugurated in September 15, 2002 as a part of WNEP program and it has been running successfully for three years now. The upcoming new team of INLS DC Nepali Education Committee (INLS DCNEP) are already thinking about offering Nepali music and Newari language classes in addition to Nepali language and dance classes in this School.
INLS Chapters in Colorado, Texas, Arizona etc are also running the School in collaboration with other local organizations there.

There was good response from Diaspora for networking and everyone was ready to unite and contribute whatever they can to keep Nepali identity alive and vibrant around the world for generations to come. This trend still continues. I welcome everyone to visit inls.org and signup for free. It is open to anyone around the world. If anyone is interested in joining INLS Global Network as INLS representative or would like to open a Chapter, please send an email to info@inls.org

By the way, here is short news of this year's Literary Festival 2005 at the ANA convention for everyone's information if you have not seen it. INLS Texas Chapter in Dallas did an excellent job in coordinating this Literary Festival and even added one more award that will be given every year in this event.
http://www.nepalipost.com/main.html#832

Thanks to ANA, NST and INLS Texas Chapter for working together in making the literary event successful this year. INLS NY Chapter is already planning for next year's literary event in NY. To contact new york chapter directly, send an email to ny@inls.org or visit their website http://newyork.inls.org ( It is under construction. I think Chapter webmaster is currently in Nepal now but I am sure they will update it)

Finally, I would like to invite everyone in DC Metro region to INLS 14th General Assembly Meeting and 192nd Bhanu Jayanti in Woodbridge, VA on coming Sunday. Friends who are interested in participating Bhanu Bhakta Memorial Vollyball Competition, please contact tika_pun@hotmail.com and others mentioned in the detail announcement here:
http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/eventdetail.cfm?eventid=500

INLS-Texas friends, if you are reading this message, it would be nice if you could post some pictures of literary event.

All, thanks for reading long posting. Pls correct as you read.

apart from INLS's greatness, I made a comment on another thread.

http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=22461

On the literary program held in ANA

Here is the text:

The literary program was overcrowded by undisciplined kids. The parents did not have understanding of the meaning of the poetry recitation and lacked any control over their kids. The concentration and atmosphere were totally ruined with the unruly kids running, jumping around like monkeys.

Next time: Get rid of kids and not to worry about the density of the attendee. It was ridiculous to see kids running and shouting around when interested few were trying to listen to a poem. Kids camp and poetry recitation should be at the same time to minimize this distraction.

How do you think one would attract more people with such kind of environment when the total number of attendee is already limited ?

Congratulations to Shirish for winning a poetry award at ANA 2005. And useful tips there.

*** *** ***

And job well done INLS !

As I believe in freedom of choice and it's superiority over all of it's alternatives, I vision that voluntary organizations like INLS are going to be more appropriate and desired medium than a forced curriculum to promote Nepali language and literature in coming days.

Thank You Nepe !

The ghazal I sent was not in the ghazal format at all...kafia all screwed so I read two others. I dont think they realized that as they were calling for more people to come for competition on the spot.

They really should not allow kids to be around. I was pretty pissed with the environment where the organizers were trying so hard to make it a success and the parents did not care about the gravity of the program. I went to participate directly from the airport.

YEAH it started almost one hour late. That was good in a way otherwise I would not have made it.

Excellent feedback shirish ji. There were many other such constructive feedback about previous Poetry Festivals on the other thread I was looking for. I think, overtime INLS has made improvement on those.

This is a new issue. With more volunteers, parent's participation and your suggestion to run Kids Camp for small kids when Poetry Festival is running might help resolve this issue. Will pass on to INLS-NY.

Since there is INLS Amar Meena Children Poetry Competition, some children are expected to be in the program for various reasons but they need to stay disciplined.

Again, thanks for taking time to provide feedback.

-PS

One suggestion:

To increase the quality of judgement, the poems should be asked to send before certain date and sent to the real people (in Nepal) who have knowledge about the poetry than judging at the spot from random people who attends the CONVENTION.

But like the current policy, to recieve the prize one has to present there.

This will shorten the length of time and I think the outcome will be of more quality.

See at the end of the program there were hardly any audience...almost everybody left.

Someone told me Newuser is Nepe's chamcha but I didn't believe that people can be chamcha in a web forum. But it's seeming like everytime Nepe writes Newuser is right behind him.

Long live sychophantism!

One more thing I noticed:

Purujee, if you review the video, you may notice lots of people saying that they have been requested a day before or on the same spot to read poems. I am fine with the requests but why do they have to reveal that ? Does not this kind of attitude proclamations degrade the quality of the program? I may be wrong to think like this.

Most of them said: "I am not a "kabi"" . Well we all understand that as I can see most of them were novices like me. Is that kind of expression necessary or they are being modest?

What a creative idea Nepe ji. What do you think Shirish Ji?

I will check with INLS HQ President and INLS-Texas President for possibility. I am sure they will be printed on INLS's tri-monthly liteary magazine INSIGHT.

Shirish ji,
Since there is usually time limitation, I think the moderator should request poets to just come up and receit their poems. Congratulations for winning one of the award. Now, I am trying figure out your real name. Which award did you win? Can give me clue :-)
