I am in great need of HISTORICAL TEMPERATURE DATA (since 1998) of Australia. I would appreciate if half-hourly data is available.

I am about to consider one of the following regions into my research:

New south wales (NSW), Southerna Australia (SA), Victoria (VIC), SNOWY and Queensland (QLD).

I am not able to find the exact link or database for these regions. Temperatue data of any one of the regions (or all) mentioned above would be a great help for me.

Thanks in advance.

Neural,
Here are the links:

AVHRR for data prior to 2000 (has 1 km resolution)
http://saa.noaa.gov

MODIS for data (available from 2000)

I am a qualified Advance Transport Aviation Pilot and have done Meteorology. Thus, I am a Honourary Consultant to Federal Bureau Of Meteorology at Kent Town, Adelaide South Australia. I am helping a community project called the History of Flood in the region.

Contact the project coordinator and he can give you any data back to 1901.

Happy landings.

PS: The stupid SA Government data is unrealiable.

It is my humble opinion that Australian Bureau of Meteorology is the best in the world. They have continuos data as far back as 1860s. I know that our South Australian environment is very arid similar to that of Arizona, USA. It is the driest State in Australia. It only rains in Winter (now) and is without rain for the rest of the year. See the South Australian annual hydro cycle in any good Atlas.

The rest it is your job that is all.

Neural,
Check this site for wide range of data sets:
http://daac.gsfc.nasa.gov/
then go to data access for GES DAAC search and Order interface
then go to Data Sets
You will find wide variety of data sets including AVHRR, MODIS-AQUA, MODIS-Terra

you can get surface temp from AVHRR data.

anyway, make not of this site if you are in earth science/meterology area

cheers!!

poonte, What ya mean, "anyway, make not of this site if you are in earth science/meterology area"?

Channel 4 (10.3 -11.3um) of AVHRR is used to get the land surface temperature. But note this wavelength is contaminated with water vapor loading so you have to correct channel 4 with channel 5 with the split window techique. Don't forget the calibration part.
MODIS land surface temperature is channel 31 ( 10.78 - 11.28 u) and a complex process is used to correct the land surface temperature. The corrections are for aerosols, wator vapor......

.Punte and Garibjanata,
Thanks for the link and information.
I don belong to earth science/meterology area. I just need the Historical TEMPERATURE DATA of AUSTRALIA ONLY (max., minm., daily), for the period from late 90's to till date. Temperatue would be one of the Input parameters into my Neural Network and wanna show it's impact on electric load and price and ... so forth.
I am not able to find the exact Temperature information of Australia. I am trying n trying :(((

visit http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/sa/indide/flood_history/

Ask McCarthy the specific data you want.

Alternatively, visit http://www.bom.gov.au

Ask the data for a State you want by contacting them.

Good Luck from the Cocatoo State that we call Galahs.

.Tara dai,
thx for the link, however, i was playing with www.bom.gov.au as one expert from Western Power, Perth has recommended me that site. I think, i really need to contact them as
like - http://www.nemmco.com.au/data/data.htm (NEMMCO), Australian Bureau of Meteorology has not provided the free data service. I found NEMMCO a fantastic one and the way they are updating all the information regarding ENERGY.

Thanks a lot indeed.
Grabjanata and Punte, in the mean time, i am playing with the links provided by you both too, i just need the DAILY TEMPERATURE of AUSTRALIA (from 1999 to 2003 end wud be enough), one of the regions that i ve mentioned in my first posting. However, i prefer SA or VICT.

Try www.bom.gov.au/cgi_bin/climate/cgi_bin_scripts/tmp_percent.cgi

It has temperature history of 30 years from 1961 to 1990.

Otherwise contact McCarthy

Punte bro,
Kind of in remote sensing but not that heavily. I have used satellite data like GOES, LANDSAT, MODIS, ASTER and most recently IKONOS for my research . And, what about you??

Visit the website I have provided to Neural.

They have what you seek in the page SILO. It is about El Ninio and La Nina. About the cost of damage then visit websites like Lyods of London or others like AXA and much more.

I will not do your homework for you. Do more ans more research.
