"We have carried out the sentence of God against 12 Nepalis who came from their country to fight the Muslims and serve the Jews and the Christians believing in Buddha as their God," the statement by Army of Ansar al Sunna said.

Blood For Blood

I am in a mood for revenge
Blood for blood
Nothing less, nothing more

So today
I am taking hostage of tweleve verses of Quran
And keeping them blind-folded
Waiting for their slaughter

Which verses ?
I don't know
I haven't read them
I don't care
Why would I ?
Did they read the mind of my fellowmen
Before they slit their throats ?

I can't wait to slit the throats of my hostages
And let the fountain of their steaming blood
Splash
On the idol of Kali
I worship
To my content
Tll it cools my blood

Jai Kali !
I am lifting my khukuri

I hear their voices
They are uttering something
I stop

Alright
Let me listen to them
Perhaps they want to speak their last wishes

Let it be

I listen to them
They wanted to be indentified
They wanted to be read out

Alright
Let me do this favor

I read them out

There were my surprises
Some of them were from my Puran
I couldn't do with them
So I let them free

Some were from my Swasthani
Some even sounded like from my Ramayan
I had to let them free

And finally
There was one
I hadn't read anywhere

It wasn't like me
It was different

Thank God !
I have at least one bali to my rage

So I ready myself
I think of nothing but the blood of my fellowmen
And the hand they stained

I am feeling the thirst for blood again

I lift my khukuri
It shines
And for a fraction of a second
I see my own reflection
on it's shining surface

I saw I was wearing a head-banner
That read- Ansar al-Sunna

Wah! Wah! Nepe ji! You hit the core of our sentiments, our emotions and our humanity only to remind us of our similiarities rather than our differences!

What is more disturbing than the hostage killings is the subsequent riots and unrest in Nepal resulting in the destruction of life and property of our own citizens. How do we morally justify our actions if we target innocent people in our country just like the terrorists targeted our 12 innocent Nepalis? Why are we punishing ourselves because of the actions of a cowardly group in Iraq? We are destroying our own properties and hurting our own citizens. The terrorists must be laughing at all the commotion they've caused - that is the very intention with which they post shocking pictures and videos for all to see. Everything that has happened in Nepal in the last two days has shocked me more.. maybe its the effect of having been confined inside my house for 2 days because of the curfew. Like I said, we're just punishing ourselves.

To cool_keta and all the morons trying to incite violence in Nepal and hiding behind the lame excuse that they can't do anything more because they're "overseas". Have some balls man. The Muslims in Nepal are just as guilty as the Muslims in the country wherever you are (If you don't understand my statement, I mean the Muslims in Nepal have nothing to do with whatever happened). If you can really bite as well as you bark, do you have the balls to lay a hand on a Muslim there?

Sitara,

Thank you for your encouraging words.

The most important duty to perform at this point next to mourning the most disturbing destruction of lives of our twelve brothers in Iraq is to do everything we possibly can do to never let another innocent life and property be damaged at home or put our brothers and sisters in foreign lands at greater risks.

We can do this only with great sense of urgency, duty and sensibility. I thank you and other Sajhaites like Suman Pradhan, Poonte, Shirish etc who have just done that with their postings in various threads when Sajha is flooded with a large number of posting with foolish and dangerous messages.

Mine was just a small part of that collective act. Although I am terribly insecure about my English, I thought this is a moment for message, not for art. So I posted this scabrous piece anyway. Since this is our collective voice rather than a personal note from me, I think it is a good idea to feature this piece (of course with some editing, anybody ?) in this sensitive and critical time.

Cool Keta,

I appreciate your appreciation.

Peepal Tree,

Yes, the idea in this poem is borrowed from countless inspiring pieces I have read and countless inspiring conversation I had with wise people I have met in life. However, it was not borrowed from a particular poem that I am aware of. Will be happy to know about the poem you are talking about. Could you recall where you read that ?

Friends...

Definately we all are shocked by the event of Iraq. It is universal truth that 12 Nepalese were 100% innocent. Sunnah Muslim will never be forgiven from us whatever they say as reason.

But I have some question regarding this event as following;
1. Why our government could not organized emergency meeting when terrorist kidnapped our 12 Nepalese. Whereas they stayed on emergency meeting after their death. Actually our government became so silly on this regard.

2. 12 Officials including ministrers can visit Greece taking just 6 players.....Can not one minister visit Golf for the relief of 12 Nepalese?

3. If government can not save the Masjid located just ahead of Singhdarbar and Royal Palace......how can we hope the may protect us from other events?

4. And opposition leader specially Girija....Does not he has any accountability toward nation.

i guess we must work now so that this does not happen again

first of all, the government should be able to monitor the operations of these manpower agencies. that would be my first priority. secondly, the people around the country should be educated about the risks of working abroad.

more steps should follow

Nepe,
the poem was written by a Nepali woman (D. Adhikari) and it was read in some poetry classes in college here, few years back. can't remember the exactly title......but it sounded like a lot like what you wrote. it was in english as well.

Peepal Tree,

That's interesting. I am not sure if I recognized D. Adhikari or remember reading her poems. Anyway, regarding the resemblance of our pieces, well, I am not surprised. What I wrote is a pretty common theme and I am sure there are hundreds of pieces similar to ours out there. But I assure you and other readers that I wasn't plagiarizing anybody's work knowingly.

I wrote this piece in one sitting and when I started to write I had two optional beginnings, both would bring me from 12 hostages down to a single hostage and then to that moment of reflection.

Since we are talking about the poem, let me share the second plot I had. Basically I would argue that this is not an issue about the number. After the protagonist has 12 hostages, it would go like this-

Does it have to be twelve ?
Ask I myself

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered eleven
Instead of twelve brothers of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered ten brothers of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Nine ? Eight ? Seven ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

Would I have felt less pain
Had they slaughtered a single brother of mine ?

No, I would have felt the same pain.

So, it's not about the number

I keep one hostage and let the rest free

and so on...

I did not chose this one because it looked too heavy, too intellectual to me. Comparative logic, on the other hand, sounded lighter, straight forward and more compassion provoking. That's how it came.

*************

Hanoi Thule and Budobaccha,

I am honored. Thank you.

Moneyminded,

All my life, I had this belief that I had succeeded to give all an impression of a perfect gentleman. Now you say I was naughty naughty. So where did I slipped in my acting ?
