Man denied bail for conjugal sex
A court in the western Indian state of Gujarat has denied a bail application from a man who wanted to be released to have sex with his wife.
Firoz Khan is one of 99 people arrested after the burning of a train in Godhra - allegedly by a Muslim mob - in 2002 in which 59 Hindus died.
More than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, died in riots that followed the attack.
Mr Khan said he and his wife were suffering mental trauma on account of non-fulfilment of their physical needs.
'Humanitarian grounds'
The assistant lawyer of the public prosecutor, Sudhir Brahmbhatt, told the BBC's Rajeev Khanna in Ahmedabad that the court observed there was no provision for bail on the grounds sought by Mr Khan.
He said the judge stated that Mr Khan's fundamental and constitutional rights had not been violated.
Mr Khan had asked the court to consider his application on humanitarian grounds.
A retired judge, UC Bannerjee, was appointed this month to determine the cause of the Godhra fire.
He is to submit his report in three months.
The train was carrying passengers returning from the disputed religious site of Ayodhya in northern India when it was set alight.
