You might want to check with our embassy. Those good for nothing might be holding a dashain event, though that might be asking too much.

Dashain/Tihar dance competition. Who is behind this idea? I love to come with my friends and watch it. My concerned is whether it is real nepali dance or its some copycat numbers. For example showing a thumkas of nepali movie song(which is indeed an indian number). It totally disgusting to me cuz whenever i have gone to this nepali programme its same rehortic. I will definitely love to see some real nepali dance just like by this grg sis in ANA in virginia. She dances a Ghantu dance. It was so beautifully choreograhped. Once more can anybody come forward and let us know what to expect and how they are going to select the numbers?
No offense to anybody in particular cuz some of them are really good dancers but i was shocked to see them dancing like in indian movie kinda dance. I just don't have time and money to waste if its going to be like that.

Well i'm def gonna be there. And another thing. We dont get to see any nepali movies with good song/dance #s so w/e we pick up is from hiindi movies. And since a lot of ppl here dont take dancing classes or have nepali ppl teachin them gintang dances therez nothing else to do but the indian jhatkas.. but u kno wut thouh..i am awfully sick of the same songs being repeated at every single functions..they need to start selling good nepali cds at nepali functions.. or at that nepali store in dc..or soemthing..plzzz..no more sarangi and gairi khet ko

Dance is dance, we all know that. i don't have problem with that. Art doesn;t have a language it can be perform anyform. What i am trying ask is, whether we can see some true nepali dance in that competition? like sorathi, chutka, some maithali dance or like some ghantu dance we see in ANA confrence in VA. I have no problems adding some hindi or english numbers in between but i am strictly talking about competition.

Naah, i am not. BTW sorathi is danced only by male not female. U can see pursunga(male dressing like a female). its all about Krishna leela. As goes for chutka u need to have a huge dance floor cuz u need atleast 16 ppl dancing at the same time. I know a little cuz of my cuzin.

Swaatiji seemed to have a good knowledge of Nepali dance. Perhaps, she could dance and direct some of the dances during the event.

I agree with Swati.. I always get pissed off when they play hindi numbers or address to crowd or whatever in fabricated accent..Cmon .atleast once in a year show some respect to yoursel and othersf in being Nepali..and celebrate the thing...

A while ago I got this Fwd mail...real nice article written by a college student from US...it said that so many Nepali parents condemn foreign stuffs ( hindi films and whatever) but encourage their kids to follow something thats not theirs..

I mean I have nothing against ..things out of our culture..I mean if someone wants to listen it..then its fair enough..but you also gotta respect others you dont wanna listen...
