Dear Nepalese Brother/Sister,

First of all let me make myself clear, I am not Pro-Maoist but I am definetely anti-monarch.
I dont believe in communist republic .. but I definetely believe in democratic all party republic.

I started this thread, because I think removal of monarchy is going to give a stable political solution in nepal.

well pro-monarch people may ask why do we need to remove monarch? :
well here are my points:

1) Why do we need monarchy? What have they give to us ? Why to keep such a high maintainance monarchy when we can easily have effective presedential sytem.

2) People monarchy is symbol of unity? I guess its completly opposite now, because monarchy is actually dividing our country now... every one knows.. people do not have faith and support for monarchy. Only bunch of ranas/shahs and their chamchas are supporting them.

3) Some argue that if we get president who resembles Girija in corruption would completely destry the country? Well we can have presidency system similar to India where president have limited power and are only representative as head of state.

another thing what would be a difference if you get a corrupt president.. because even current king and his whole family are looting money from us and filling their pockets.... but in the same case if we have president.. at least we wont have to pay to thier family and also we can check president if we establish effective corruption controlling body.. ...

Well I hope to have healthy discussion under this thread about whether we should get rid of monarchy or not?

My vote is for getting rid of monarchy is a best political solution nepal can have.

I don't think its that time yet. I would be extremely worried to give authority of Royal Nepalese Army to some clueless elected official. We don't want Army go wrong. However, lets first pave the path for peace and look for a long term solution not short term. Nepal couldn't even handle the 1990 Democracy, do you think its ready for President? It will be totally chaotic.

I know eventually we will and we will have to get it. But, don?t you think it is the right time to get it and we should get it with in Gyanendra's regime.

I am more worried about Parash becoming king.... a person who can not handle the power of crown prince, how will he handle the ultimate power of king.

I get chilled to the bone with fear when I think of him ruling Nepal with RNA under his control, his activities so far has already shows he is some one with resemblance to Uday / Kusay Hussain

If we do not act soon, then I guess we will either head to more grievous civil war or we will have a ruthless dictator resembling Saddam Hussain ruling us.

If we start digging our history and lots of event that palace hid from us we will find that palace has always raised trouble to Nepalese and has always tortured us than working for better Nepal.

In history and even in present there have always been some royal members who get obsessed with his power and use it as a mafia leader than a leader of a country.

Most shameful fact is our journalist till date try to hide these things than to bring it to everyone attention. Compare the journalism in other kingdoms with our kingdoms; you will see how autocratically it?s being ruled in Nepal. It is this freedom our press has been providing that is making matter worse.

I know Nepal did not handle 1990 democracy well, but that does not mean we should push it back to the autocratic system giving king the ultimate power again, this will be insult to the soul of martyrs who gave their life for better Nepal.

I think we should move forward not backward. And as far as handling democracy or presidency is concerned, we Nepalese should be equally responsible with our duties, we should check the politician, and we should not let them do whatever they want. If our journalists and civil society as whole do their job being un-biased and with full fledge control we can handle it.

I GUESS WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON WHETHER WE NEED MONARCHY OR NOT?
WE SHOULD ALSO BE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON WHETHER WE WANT TO AMEND CURRENT CONSTITUTION FOR BETTER NEPAL OR NOT?

IT IS US WHO SHOULD DECIDE NOT BABURAM OR OUR KING.

i support the constituional monarchy casue fori think its the best for our country ie there should be somebody to kick these politicians arses and yo dudes dont say that why king for that.....casue neplai janata have done nothing till today to stop anything so forget about nepali janata as somebody who ll stop the wrong doings.
i will rather choose a paras with all the power of the country to a girija with any power. ie for me atleast ,total monarchy is way more acceptable than democracy with these sort of stupid corrupt mean self motivated bunch of leaders we have. welll i dont mean i support full monarchy but in comparision to these bastards o yeah king is way bettter.

paras paras paras, that guy has done stupid things we all know that..so there should be smth done ,very true.....but like wise we all know that what collectively the leaders have done and weigh those things against each other and see whichis heavier... khumbahadur, girija, sujata, dhamija lauda blha blha blah kati ho ho ....and they are the people who are running for the govt...o where is the justice and what has nepali people done till today, including you and me, NOTHING.

the system we have is not wrong mate....it is absolutely fine its just the execution.for last 1 and a half decade king has done nothing ,we all know it, and this is the period when everything went wrong upside down.girija has become the pm of the country for how many times???????? everyt ime failed the state and now why blame the king.....
nepali janata,we alll, are fools accept it or not.
isnt it funny that capuses are locked by students and taht too on a frequent basis, nepal banda the country whichis one of the poorest, chakka jam o my gosh can you imagine.....
no peace in the land of buddha and no courage in tha land of the gurkhas.blaminig king all the time and talking about de throning him aint gonna help nothing.imagine for a minute nepal withourt a king and jsut for an example girija as the president.......... it would be a nightmare come true.

long live the king, till these bastards like girija, abauramand makune are there in nepal.and you know what if these democratic parties become good,i bet you ll never have to complain about the monarchy or anything.there are developed countries with constituional monarchy and doing good and without complaining about the moarchy.
when democracy is strong and the leaders are strong ,then monarchy will go to the background itself....

I am not pro monarch though,
In my opinion Panchayat System was very suitable to our Country for various reasons:
1: Less Corruption
You may compare it yourself.
Then: CDO used to take under tablem money but very secretely and he used to say "Bhrashtachaar unmulanma Shree 5 bata baks bhayeko nirdeshan anurup jillama 2,4 jana karmacharilai karyabahi gariyeko chha."
Now: Telle khana huni hamle nahuni ... ... ... Then? All are corrupts. kasaile kasailai terdaina.

2. Rules and regulations: Needless to say. There is neither government nor rules and regulations in Nepal after 2046.
The parlaimentarians chanted slogans in Parliament. Rosatam gheraau, ...etc. etc.

3. The good and durabble laws and rules in Nepal are old one derived in Panchayat system. Is there any good thing after 2046?
Chakka jam niyatran bidhayak etc. etc. Useless!!!!!! Meaningless!!!!!!!

4. When you used to go to your village from Ktm, did you feel any problem in terms of security? Never and never!
Now? Needless to say about it.

5. In panchayat system there were nearly cases of buying and selling of Ra oam sa.
In coalition govt. a Samsad was sold out in 1 Karod + Post of Minister.
Lilam badhabadh!!!!!!!!

6. Aba kati kura garne yaaar tyasto ramro panchayat System lyaaune Mahendrako nati Parasle kina moj nagaros ta Girijale bhanne Hawaldaarle ta Dajuko naamma moj garchha bhane... ... ...

i believe too, that, a republic democratic state is the most stable of a system.... but like some Yogi .... said "in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; in practice, there is".

a republic democratic state runs well only when the society has high educational level, sound economy and the most PEACE. in a country like nepal where all three are lacking, it's very difficult for the republic-democratic system to last long... at least in the present context. i would give examples of Indonesia (of until some yrs back), African countries like Nigeria and Liberia as some examples.

i personally think, nepal needs a stable head of state... so that however dynamic may the politics to get into singh darbar might be, we still have something stable, something not changing at the top......... well, the current 'Bishnu Awatar' or the one designed to be the next, might not be the right person though.

if you need a new dynasty to rule, the Gaalab Dynasty is always ready to serve the Nepali people.

A scary hint to next move of Gyanedra/Paras dictatorship..... seems like dooms day for nepal is comming soon......

?Country will soon experience an authoritarian govt.?

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 11 - The country will soon experience an authoritarian government, if the current government fails to bring the Maoists to the negotiating table, Minister for Information and Communication Mohamad Mohsin said.

Speaking during a meeting with senior editors and publishers at his office in Singh Durbar on Wednesday Mohsin said, ? The alternative to this government will be one you people can?t bear with.?

Mohasin, who is also the King?s representative in the coalition government diplomatically hinted that present adverse situation to hold elections and heedless stance taken by the Maoists for peace talks are paving the way for an authoritarian system in the country soon.

? The authoritarian system may be explained as one with the King usurping absolute executive powers and seizing certain fundamental rights of the people, where military would play an influential role? said Mohsin.

The authoritarian system if it comes is not the fault of anyone but the Maoists, he said adding, ? They came to the negotiating table with Chand government, and then with Thapa government, but it?s a mystery, why they are refusing to talk to a government that commands the mandate of over 75 per cent members of the parliament.? They are blaming on maoist... but it was what Gyanendra wanted once he became king....

he was waiting for an opportunity... now he is going to execute it....

if we donot oppose it now... we will regret it forever....
people in ktm knows what Paras is already up to and what devastating blow he can be to civil society and normal people of nepal......

Here is one more news article from BBC online... which shows what both form of dictators are doing to nepalese.....

if we want better democratic nepal... we should trust our democratic parties and force them to evolve.... educated nepalese should be more vocal towards preserving our democratic values and human rights.....

I know democratic parties were reckless... but there is no difference in monarchy too... they are corrupt, they increased their so called bhatta once they got power.. they are torturing nepalese using army in name of maoist...

looking at the future king's behavour matters looks more worst.....

So, eventhough the political parties did not lead us to better nepal, we should force them to evolve, come up with better leadership... this is the only way we can save nepal's democratic values and human rights....

Once again, I am not supporter of any of so called 3 polar forces of nepal... i am a general nepali... trying to bring people together to fight for what is good for us....

'Increase in Nepal torture cases'
By Charles Haviland
BBC correspondent in Kathmandu

Maoist rebels
Some torture victims end up joining the rebels
A major group treating victims of torture in Nepal says it can barely cope with the number of people coming to it for help.

It says figures for those tortured in Nepal have doubled each year since the start of a Maoist uprising in 1996.

The Centre for Victims of Torture, Nepal (CVICT) says more than 1,800 cases have been referred this year.

Over the past eight years, 17,000 cases of torture have been brought before the organisation.

CVICT says these figures are just the tip of the iceberg.

Its head, Dr Bhogendra Sharma, listed 38 varieties of torture commonly used in Nepal.

He said most victims were poor and often wrongly accused by the authorities of being Maoists.

Many such cases prompted previously non-political victims to join the rebels, he said, adding that one female Maoist battalion consisted entirely of rape victims.

But he said the Maoists had taken up torture themselves and regularly broke people's arms and legs.

Disappearances

Nepal now has more political disappearances than any other country and Dr Sharma said people who disappeared had often been tortured to death.

He said that although some senior police were against the practice, security forces committing it enjoyed total impunity and no one had ever been indicted on a torture charge.

Torture was widespread even before the conflict, but Dr Sharma said that although many of today's politicians were tortured before the advent of democracy in 1990, none were now speaking out against it.

Although Nepal has signed the UN convention against torture, it has never been enshrined in the country's law, and CVICT is working to change this.
