One of my favourite directors, Oliver Stone, who made great movies like "Platoon", "Born on the Fourth of July", "The Doors", "JFK" comes up with a movie based on the life of Alexander The great. Millions of dollars spent on the movie, top starcast, three hours runtime, thousands of extras -- is it worth $10?

Has anyone watched it yet?
I have... eh... phew, whattta drag for 3 hours.

Half the movie, the director tries to prove that Alexander was a homosexual (not bisexual). But he can't say it upfront coz he is shy about it. Insted he creates situation after situation just to prove his point that Alexander was a homosexual... eh. When Alexander finally marries Roxanne, director lables it as "mysterious marriage"... and later he mentions Alexander married couple of more times and keeps mum about his sexuality. harey... The movie should have been named "How Oliver Proved that Alexander was a homosexual". Oliver wants to be as bold as Alexander and yet he is so shy about it. If you are so shy about it, DON'T TALK ABOUT IT. The movie would have been great if the director focused more on Alexander than his sexuality.

Bisexuality/homosexuality might be a taboo in today's world, but was it like this 2000 years ago in the GREEK LAND? Alexander's "best friend", who was the warrior, looks so girlish... eh... with long hair and make up... lol... and so delicate that you won't believe him fighting on the battleground. Was he that delicate? History says he was a great warrior and was handsomer than Alexander, but was he that girlish?

Alexander marries Roxanne. In the first night of their marriage, Roxanne hears Alexander expressing his love to his best friend... hehe... and Roxanne FREAKS out... Hey, that sounds more like the situation from today's world. hehe... Wife finds about her husband's mistress and she freaks out... eh. Sounds more like a scene extracted from some Soap.

The movie keeps on mentioning that Alexander was bold, but he didn't look that bold in the movie... Insted, apart from conquering half a world, he looked so fragile, emotional, and he cries thru out the movie... hehe... Heard he was angry and bold... lol.

The worst part of the movie, the director focuses on the scenes that don't make sense more than the scenes that are relevant to the story.. hehe...

Colin Ferral lacks the screen presence. aaahhhh... He shouldn't do period movies. Imagine Russell Crowe in "Gladiator" and even Brad Pitt in "Troy". eh... They looked like a great warrior... Colin looks more like an ordinary guy who doesn't impress you much...

They showed India and they didn't show Indian classical dance??? how is that possible?? LOL... There was not even a single Indian Musical piece in the movie...

I wan my 5 dollars back... lol... the other 5 bucks was worth watching Roxanne naked... :)

Katti lekhi chu, jpt... Should have rather studied. eh.

Photo pani tasdim...
(My fav scene from the movie... yayaya)

LOl kalanki bro nice review..i have been waiting impaitenly for this movie..lol hhaha abt that homosexuality thing, i heard some greek lawyers are suing the company....havent gotten chance to watch it yet, but surely will watch it in the weekends.

well, alexander's relationships with women and his realtionship with Hepestion has always been puzzling and questionable..but at that time it was a known fact that many greek Kings had a Secret Male Partner, because they thought/understood, male could understand a male better than a woman. AND i am suprised, why the title is just ALexander instead of ALexander the great....

Haha Confused bro. Don't waste your money on this movie. Watch it on HBO insted. Alexander in this movie is nothing more than a constanly weeping boy of an insane mother. There is nothing so inspiring about him in the movie. I won't be surprised if Greeks ban this movie not for portraying Alexander as homosexual but for portrayin' him as cry baby. He looks so weak and fragile that you won't even believe him when he is giving a speech to motivate his army before the war. Compare the similar scene in Gladiator, Russell Crowe looked so inspiring.

Technically, movie is brilliant. The palace of Babylon is stunning, and that is about it. :D But narration of the movie is completely confusing... more confused than Confused bro himself.. LOL... Like, there is a scene where Alexander fights with his father, and his father exiles him. Furious, he leaves the palace. Next scene, he is with his father, chillin' out in Macidonia. hehe... Now the question is what happend in between those two scenes that made his father change his mind? Mr. Stone doesn't bother to show it to us, insted he focuses on lovelife of Alexander. Yup, like Moneyminded said, bisexuality was common practice at that time among Greeks. Nothing surprising about that. It's like noone is surprised when Alexander's mother announced that Alexander is the son of Zeus. Nobody will be surprised if they show underage marriage was legal in US 200 years ago.

There is one scene where Hephaistion was punch by somebody. Why was he punched? What happened next? Now thats what I call confusion. Why bother to show that if you don't wanna tell us the reason behind not deleting that part from the movie?

Alexander's army refuse to go to war with Monkey Tribes in India. That particular scene, Alexander seems like he is in a verge of breakdown. hehe... He sounds something like -- You guys don't leave me, if you leave me, I'll jump off this cliff... hehe... The great but weak conquerer??? Thats so unlike Alexander. He is an inspiration to the people, a true hero, the great commander, the bold persona -- don't portray him as a crybaby.. eh... It's like Superman singing "papa don't preach".... eh.

And Angelina Jolie's accent sounds crazy... Everyone has manpari accent. ehe... Anthony Hopkins has his own, Angelina Jolie has her own, Alexander has Iris accent where as his father has American accent... haha... Bujhnai garho. :P

That movie bugged my head pretty bad, hehe... can't stop thinking about it. hehe... Whatta waste.

actually i found the movie interesting..
the movie is from a very diff point of view.. i.e if you are sick of reading the history books..
the greeks supported homosexuality.... if Alexander chose to have a male partner...it was nothing wrong then... it's history... call him gay .. call him a fag.. but he conquered half of the world didn't he.. the way he is portrayed.. i'd say is great. except for the gay part.... i mean like c'mon can a person who conquered half the world not be emotional .. can he not cry for his own sake..
everyone here has this pic of the great in their head to be a person with no emotions.. hello wake up.. everyone cries once in a while.. gladiator cried too for his wife and child... aint nothing wrong with that...

i am not saying the movie was great.. i'd give it a B rating. but i think it was great to see alexander from a diff light.. and yes the movie was confusing at times.. but then when wasn't history confusing???

Lol, Roc bruzza, I also thought the movie would be interesting. After all Oliver Stone is known to look at the history from a different angle and make a movie about it. He has every right to play with the script, explore, discover, alter the personality of historic figure, but not when he is making a mainstream cinema. There is a different genre of filmmaking to experiment in the movies, especially when it comes to the history. If somebody releases his movie worldwide on wednesday, and expect people not be disappointed with the content of the movie, then he is exactly supposed to give what he promised to give. He promised Alexander, give us Alexander that we know of. Simple. My $10 is on the stake, and viewers like me don't wanna spend it on something where director is busy gratifyin' himself. If I wanna watch those kinda movies, I'd go to the movie theaters where they happily play the movie that are selected for Sundance film festival. If you release "Harry Potter", those who have read the book don't wanna see R-rated dark-sexual side of Harry potter where he confine himself inside a room and engage in a nookie. hehe... If it was not a mainstream cinema, then why the hell director change the color to red??? Because, the war scene was bloody and gory and he didn't want any rating higher than R. Higher the rating, lower the income. gotta go... shit, why am i writing
hehe...

MEN do CRY, but I don't wanna watch a movie where anyone cry for 3 hours. hehe...
