They (The comrades in arm) have announced disruption during the event. Irony as it would be, "the event dedicated to the light of Asia, apostle of peace" is not spared of the violence cycle bewteen the state and rebel. I personally think, this event should have been spared from any political motive:
1. To justidy religious tolerance, and respect for the son of soil Buddha.
2. To demonstrate that violence is only the mean to obtain greater rights of the underrepresented and not a tool to terrorize the mass.
3. To repel the fear that Nepal is unsafe for foreign visitors, as tourism related income is a sustainable economy and any attempt to disturb it is nothing but hacking the nation to die bleeding.
4. Peace is the aspiration of the populace, and violence begets violence, hence as a signal that the comrades in arms are also not against peace, they should immediately overturn their earleir announcement to disturb the World Buddhist Conference and Lumbini event. Declaring Lumbini zone as the land of Peace should be backed and supported by every one of us.

Don't worry, the Maoists buggers will cancel their decisions.

This is just a cheap trick they want to play. This shows how low these guys actually are. And idiots.

Ghatiaya banchhan ni, ho tehi ho.

OK, so Maoists have exploded the bombs. This is quite evident that they do not have "peace" in thier vocabulary.

Explosions in Rupandehi on the eve of Buddhist conference (9:30 p.m.)

On the eve of the second International Buddhist Conference in south-westerndistrict of Rupandehi, Maoist rebels have caused a series of bomb explosions, but there are no reports of casualties.

According to latest reports, a series of explosions took place mostly in the rural areas of Rupandehi district Monday evening on the eve of the two-day shutdown strike in the district beginning Tuesday.

Maoist rebels later called local radio stations and claimed the responsibility of the explosions. They, however, said the explosions were
not targeted against anybody.

A bomb also exploded near Radio Lumbini F. M. at Manigram in Rupandehi district this evening, sources told Nepalnews.

The rebels said they had called the strike in protest of killing of pro-Maoist activists and leaders in the district by the security forces. They have claimed that the strike has nothing to do with the conference. But authorities say the strike clearly aims at disrupting the international conference.

His Majesty King Gyanendra is scheduled to inaugurate the conference at Lumbini?birth place of Gautam Buddha?on Wednesday. Delegates from around the world including Buddhist monks and scholars are arriving Kathmandu on the way to Lumbini.

Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Rao Indrajit Singh and a Sri Lankan minister also arrived Kathmandu Monday to take part in the conference.

Meanwhile, organizers of the conference-- the government of Nepal and Lumbini Development Trust?have called upon the rebels to reconsider their call. Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Dip Kumar Upadhyay, urged the rebels to reconsider their decision saying that the proposed ?bandh? will impart negative image to the country.

Human Rights Organisation of Nepal (HURON) has also urged the rebels to withdraw its `bandh.? nepalnews.com by Nov 29 04

Is it right for the maoists to disturb the Lumbini event??

There is not justification for violence.period.

Violence is not a solution and it has been written all over the pages of history. But a hungry stomach, poverty stricken and hopeless life might ask, what do we do?

I dont know the answer. I wish I did. I can totally understand why poor people from remote areas of Nepal would join forces to fight so called GREEDY government. They had no other way to prove their point hence they are being violent regardless of how morally correct that is.

I think the situation in is Nepal complex. The government doesnt want to coperate and Maoist dont want to dilute their political views. Now where do we go? One has to win for other to lose...But, again whats going to happen to all those neutral people who just dont want any violence, who just want to live a peaceful life?

Dont get me wrong but I dont see any immediate solution unless either one group is totally destroyed but that thing happening is highly unlikely.

All I can do hope for the peace.I wish Buddha could come back to life and enlighten us so that we can always live hapily ever after.

Maoists declare three-day unilateral ceasefire in Rupandehi (Dhelai Bhaye Pane)

Amid security concerns during the 2nd World Buddhist Summit in Lumbini, Rupandehi district, the CPN (Maoist) Tuesday declared a unilateral ceasefire in the district for three days.
Bhairawa of Rupandehi was deserted Tuesday morning before the declaration of a ceasefire... (More)
The Rupandehi District Organisation Committee of the CPN (Maoist) announced this through a statement, which was faxed to local media offices this morning, a Rupandehi-based journalist told Nepalnews over telephone.

Along with the ceasefire, the Maoists have also withdrawn their two-day bandh (general strike) in the district starting from today coinciding with the Buddhist Summit, the journalist said citing the statement signed by Saroj, the district in-charge of the rebel party.

Vehicular traffic was slightly affected in the morning but situation became normal as soon the local F.M radios carried the news about the ceasefire. nepalnews.com by/mbk Nov 30 04
