The recent news of the robbery of the NABIL bank in open day light and even more surprising, the recovery of the robbed money (most of it) immediately afterwards have created quite a headlines. Newspapers are also quick to point out the underlying concerns on the event.

For once, Nepal Police should be commended for a job well done. Even though the fact cannot be denied that the robbery was conducted by a very unskilled robber (didn't know of cameras. didn't have a better hideouts), the job done by the cops should be applauded.

The recent bombings at the Sanchay kosh and this event clearly shifts the focus to the need of installing more security measures, most importantly surveillance cameras. And one last thing, a push button to activate emergency alarm, audible only to police, may be too much to ask at this time, but very much necessary.

I had stopped by that bank about 15 min before the robbery happened..and now to read that news in newspapers..it is really surprising and weird. when I was there, everybody stared at everyone...as if everyone was a suspected maoist, yet the robber(s) managed to take that huge sum of money so swiftly. The guards must have continued staring, for a bit too long. I heard both the parties spent some time (about 30 min) discussing and negotiating the amount of money that was to be handed in to the robber. This is totally ridiculous.

The need of a push-button alarm system is exactly what I was thinking after I read the news.

People are so scared these days because of Maoists. So if someone says he is a maoist and has a gun or bomb, he can do anything. Noone wants to die. Who knows who is real and how is fake.
