As I sit and wonder, what would be the best scenario now that all said and done, I could not help myself but envision a beautiful peaceful Nepal that we love. But as much as tried to escape from reality, it kept me haunting me. A nightmare that I try to escape, only to chasing me is, WHAT IF?, there is more bloodshed and chaos? But that?s for another day. For now, let me express something in my oblivion.

I THINK the best that can happen now would be.

1) The king succeeds Maoists to bring to table and ACTUALLY solves the status quo.

Or, completely (more or less) stand victorious and can ensure safety of all and sundry.
(First option more viable)

2) Punishes (makes sure) the corrupt leaders as big (small) as they are i.e girija baje, Sher bahadhur SJ RANA, makune, govinde, bastole, khum daka, arjun KC(chor) K(ehi) P(ointless) Oli, or whoever, and ABSOLUTELY makes certain that anyone with anything more than a lil flattering RESUME are punished with MAXIMUM penalty.

3) Returns the Nation to the people by going back to multi-party democracy as soon as possible.

The 3rd act is the most crucial act he would do (if he can) in the not so glorious recent history of shah dynasty to safeguard monarchy. For if he gives back the democracy without people fighting for it in the 5-10 years to come, which eventually they will, he would earn a greater goodwill which will add a silver lining of his success of brining peace to the grieving Nation. This act of generosity (?) or mature ness of a king that understands the pulse of 21st century would keep monarchy safe for another 3-4 decades, if not more, PROVIDED stupid and infamous parash does not go out of line every now and then.

And then, after the democracy is justly enthroned, we shall have a system like the one placed in U.K, less in the early decades, but increasingly analogous in next couple of decades.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?..I know, it is just a theoretical possibility, but even if the half of what my thoughts in oblivion shall come true, I shall be satisfied. After all peace at the cost of Maoists and corrupt politician would not be something I would term as trouncing for Nepal, if at all it would be astute bargain/victory, even though it might not be as tasteful as the REAL democracy.

What do you guys think could be the best that can happen, NOW?

IndisGuise:)

P.S: khai lekhdai janda ke lekhiyo ke? tala mathi bhaye maaf pau.

King gives India the royal ignore

NEW DELHI: As the Kathmandu palace shut its doors on India, India's unquestioning military assistance to the Himalayan kingdom has come under a cloud.

Nepal's silence has shocked India. Foreign secretary Shyam Saran said on Wednesday, "Even as I speak, there are virtually no communications. There is no way in which we are able to engage the Government of Nepal in even making a proper assessment of what is happening."

Not only has there been no word from King Gyanendra's palace, Indian embassy officials in Kathmandu have drawn a blank when they tried to contact senior members of Gyanendra's circle. Even the defence attach? could not reach senior officers of the Royal Nepal Army. On Tuesday, the Indian embassy resorted to hand-delivery of the Indian reaction to arrested political leaders in Kathmandu. Some reached, others were stopped by soldiers.

The clampdown on communications by the palace is partially responsible, but is a clear statement of defiance of India by Gyanendra.

It has made it difficult for India to articulate the most important plank of its policy towards Nepal ? whether the military assistance which equipped the Royal Nepal Army to fight Maoists would stay.

Analysts here reckon one of the reasons for the king's silence is that he is giving India time to overcome its initial anger and come round to supporting him against the Maoists. Still, India is not likely to abandon the democracy demand. And its strongest international partner is the US.

The US state department's condemnation was virtually identical to India's reaction. Richard Boucher, the spokesman, said, "Nepal should make an immediate move towards the restoration of multi-party democratic institutions under a constitutional monarchy. We continue to urge the Maoists to abandon their armed struggle and to join the political mainstream through dialogue."

How India will nuance the demand for democracy with the equal necessity of fighting the Maoists and preventing Nepal from collapsing into chaos will be a test of Indian diplomacy.

these two options are worth appreciable. that is what we want within 3 years of his direct rule.

Poor Indisguise are you in dream?

This new education minister Radha Krisna Mainali was one of the four leaders (KP Bhattarai, Sahana Pradhan, I forgot the fourth one) who went to the Palace in 2046 after King Birendra succumed to the Jana Andolan and introduced multyparty democracy after consulting them. Then Mr. Mainali has become minister as a UML leader, and Male leader and again with chand Cabinet. Now he is again the minister elect by the King. This man is one of the most corrupted leaders in Nepali politics. His big belly reflects everything.

Now king G has appointed him as a minister. Rameshnath Pandey and Dan Bahadur Shahi are also famous for corruption and dirty politics. Why the hell did Gyane elected them as ministers.
Why don't you realize that the King has already shattered the dream of some hopefuls only second day after taking absolute authority. The king doesn't have good advisor> he has failed once again. Things will worsen in coming days.
Bhanthyo bhanaula.

safegaurding monarchy is not an issue. moreover, we don't want paras to be the next king; even king Gynandra knows that. at present what he did, is the right step to save nepal falling from the edge.
lets see if he can bring back peace in nepal within three years.

Lu ta girija baje's Natini ko Kura ni suni halau. Agreed she is not an authoritative figure, nevertheless, she is a public figure. Her response to the current crises would be reasonably READ and perhaps will tilt some faces towards Gyane.

As pulished in times of India.

Give the King and Nepal a chance

(Hindi film actress Manisha Koirala hails from Nepal's respected Koirala family. Her grandfather Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, founder of Nepali Congress Party, was the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of Nepal, later removed by the monarchy. An alumna of The Army Public School, Delhi, Manisha made her Hindi film debut with Saudagar in 1991. )

Nepal's conditions have been going from bad to worse, there is no law and order, no peace and no security. The economic conditions too have deteriorated.

I grew up in the country, and though a child's memories are always beautiful, I do remember that there were many different opinions that co-existed peacefully.

I remember my grandfather, BP Koirala, and his Nepali Congress Party struggling to achieve democracy in the country. We would meet great leaders who would talk about right and wrong, about values and other things, but still the whole atmosphere was very positive.

However, this time when I went to Nepal, there was an andolan , but it was so different from the past ? the people now were abusive and angry.

Though, during my grandfather's time, there was no democracy in the country, the attitude and even the dissent was far more positive. After him, there was democracy and then again it was lost, but it has all become so negative.

In such a situation, the King had repeatedly asked various political leaders to join hands, even if it was in minimum agreement. But somehow that was never achieved ? blame it on strong differences between them or whatever.

Democracy in Nepal can only prevail if there are free and fair elections. And elections can happen only when there is law and order. Now all that the King is promising is that in the next three years he will restore peace and there would be an election, there would be democracy.

The only Nepali leader I know and follow is my late grandfather; and it is my conviction that if he was alive today, democracy would not have given birth to Maoists. Or at least Maoists would not have dared to say that!

Bottomline is that any one working to achieve security and peace should be given a chance.

Declaring anyone guilty before any crime is proven is wrong, especially if it's not a single case and there are many layers and many subcontexts (to the situation).

Three years is not a long time King Gyanendra is asking for. He has been under a lot of pressure for the last four years since he took over the reign after King Birendra's demise. It has not been easy for him.

So if all he is asking for is three years, he should definitely be given a chance.

The people are happy about his decision too. In fact the Nepalese people had been waiting for someone to take some action, to take a decisive step and their King has done that.

I understand that on the face of it his move does seem dictatorial. But let us not forget that Nepal does not enjoy the kind of freedom and democracy that India does and perhaps such a step was needed. The people would not have accepted it otherwise.

Personally, I see this as a positive step and I hope and I pray that Nepal will move towards peace, towards democracy.

(As told to Jhoomur Bose Malik)

"Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures."
J.F.K
