We will be hearing lots of these kind of news.

OR, the army will use this sort of behavior as a scare tactics so there will be lesser uprisings.

I have a feeling that Army will have better success of supressing Maoist under the King than any civilian or elected personal. Infact, the army did not want to perform under other people. If they secceded, the King could not have taken over.

my condolonces to the family member of the students who died but i also see the point in Deep Bhari's but not the way he wrote it, tell me guys how many times the college students in Nepal have acted like bheda bhakara creating usless urprising in the country, seems like these students forget why they go to college,it looks as if they are there for netagiri rather than to study, there should be ban on politics in college or at least the influence of political parties

DadaGiri ji,

Just could not resist expressing my admiration for your responsible job. A fighter should control his co-fighters going out of control.

And that will apply to all sides. To be fair, re kya ?

Dear Princeofdarkness, you are true to your name. when there is a state of emergency, i actually call those students Nepali heros for their act. I also agree college should not be a political ground, but you are forgetting the ppl who go to college cannot live in a "college land", they still live in Nepal and are affected by the political system there. and they have the right to say it and say it out loud. To have guts to express themselves when they know situation does not favor them is salutable. My deepest condolence to their family. And who ever this deep bhari dude is, he needs to go to a therapist, I cannot call him a normal human being. deep bhari is abusing the democracy which other people are fighting for.

Jaya Nepal

Response to princeofdarkness:

You may are absolutely wrong.

If the rights of people are lost obviously the pople will oppose it.
Who will oppose first?
Of course, the young and educated generation of the society will oppose it.
Those are students.
Do you think, they should do it in the Army Barrack?
Of course they oppose it in the hostels or in the campuses and around area.

This cannot be stated as NetaGiri, they are just fighting for the right of the people and obviously right of the students themselves.
You may see the history of any other countries.
Regarding the Gaaunle students, 91% of Nepalese live in village, what is wrong with it?

They are absolutely right. You do not know the power of Students and young generation.

From the Hindustan Times

ROYAL COUP: GROUND ZERO - Nepal army guns down students
Avirook Sen
Kathmandu, February 3

ON FEBRUARY 1, Nepal didn't just get a new authoritarian dispensation, reports trickling in suggest that it may have also got its own version of Tiananmen Square.
The scales are different, but in the tourist town of Pokhra, the Royal Nepal Army is reported to have used chopper fire on student protesters. "We have information that there was such an incident from very reliable sources", said Kedar Prasad Poudyal, acting secretary, National Human Rights Commission.

Here, according to informed sources, is what happened. Almost as soon as King Gyanendra issued his February 1 proclamation, students at the Prithvi Narayan College campus in Pokhra came out in protest. The RNA was at the gates of the campus in no time, but the students held the soldiers off: they would not let them in.

Held at bay on the ground, the RNA responded with choppers, firing at the protesters from the air. About 15 students are said to have taken bullets.

The soldiers returned to their barracks at about 6 pm, but at around 2 am there was another raid. This time, the RNA entered the hostel and picked up between 200 and 250 students. Those who were injured in the chopper fire earlier in the day were not taken to hospital, said sources, they were shifted to the barracks instead.

In the meantime, there were similar protests at the engineering college campus in the same town. Here, however, the students appear to have escaped.

Pokhra, about 200 km from Kathmandu, is a major tourist destination. It is also an RNA divisional headquarter, with a large army presence.

The P.N. College is one of Nepal's better known educational institutions. It is a multi-discipline school with a distinguished commerce department. Reports coming in suggest that the arrested students are being tortured.

"People say that they have heard screams", said a source. It is not clear if there have been any fatalities.

Nepal's Human Rights Commission issued a statement on Wednesday, but did not make any mention of the Pokhra incident. The statement said: "As a member of the United Nations and a state party to all major human rights treaties, it is Nepal's responsibility to protect human rights of the Nepalese people."
