Dear friends and well-wishers,

I am using email after three days, currently under cover in Nepal. As all the telephone lines, Internet and other communication facilities have been cut off, we are experiencing the Stone Age in the 21st century.

This has been a complete hell for journalists. We are not allowed to talk to anyone. Political leaders are either under house arrest or have been detained. There are Armymen patrolling the streets. Even if there is emergency situation in a house, there is no way of communicating with others.

In the eyes of a foreign journalist, everything would seem calm and normal on the streets. But the weight of the undercurrent is unfathomable.

Ours is one of the biggest media houses in Nepal. Since the king addressed the nation on Tuesday morning, dictatorial rule has been imposed on media as well.

The Army officers scan all the contents before it goes to the printing or on air. My hands are shivering while writing this. (Apologies if there are mistakes.)

I won't be able to check emails for the next several days or maybe months. So don't reply.

Our life is in threat and an eerie silence is lingering in every corner of Nepal. Speaking anything against the monarch or the rulers is directly inviting death, or being behind the bars, not less.

I hope my friends outside Nepal help us in this hour of difficulty. Please circulate this email among your friends' circle, and please please please please please try to exert pressure on your Government to bail my country out of the trouble and hardships we are going through.

Thank you.

Regards,
?.

PS: Please do not quote me or use my name in case anyone of you use anything from here.

hundreds of persons have been arrested and things are scary. we dont have any information about how many persons are killed by army after Feb 1. And on top of that, maoists might have killed many more in these days taking advantage of the army heavily centered in the capital. and things look normal on streets of kathmandu. and some section of nepalese abroad think we have finally peace in our country. silence in front of gun is not peace.

It's a well known fact that the Maoists have their bases in Assam in India. Thats how Prachanda was able to do his press release.

If rein's story is true, I feel sorry for him that he supported the likes of Makune, Girija or Prachanda/Baburam. Otherwise, I dont see why he would be running away hiding.

I hope King G understands the consequences if army goes on violating fundamental rights of the people. In saying that I will still support him if he puts Girija, Govinde, Chiranjivi, Rawal, etc in the prison. Putting corrupt politicians and corrupt "human rights activists" like Padma ratna, Suresh Pyakurel into prison is not violation of rights, its called the enforcement of the law.

NepaliCNN, first of all i am not running away hiding. i am not in nepal anyway. i posted the email from a journalist posted in cybernepali.com only.

and yes i agree with u. i would also like to see all the corrupt leaders behind the bars, but in a transparent way. i just want that innocent people are not tortured by army or maoists. now with complete ban on independent reporting, we never know how manu innocents are killed or made to look disappear.
