There's a new Batman movie coming up in the summer of 2006. And I read in the review that it is exploring the part not discussed much in any previous Batman movies "How batman became batman?"

Weird start, u may say. Anyway, on the same vein, I was reading a BBC article and somewhere I read that Prachanda went underground in 1996 when the Communist Party (Maoist) could only secure 9 seats in the parliament. And from then they have just gotten bigger and stronger and now, arguably the biggest party in Nepal.

Maybe we can only speculate on the question( of which I have not seen any discussion anywhere) that I am about to pose or perhaps there are concrete answers (hopefully).

Why did Baburam Bhattarai suddenly go underground (even after securing at least 9 seats which doesn't seem too bad considering they were a new party then)?
Is he just a mindless gun slinger who likes killing people without any intent on his mind?

(This question has been troubling me these last couple of days and I just could not resist posting it here in sajha.)

they were denied political space in the elections aftermath- which is partially a reason they went underground- to be heard by the people.

good point passinthru....,

this is a never ending game of nepali politics....in the yester-years, Nepali congress succumbed to power, luring power !!then evolved communist parties (UML etc, ...forget about their merger w/ others..) by killing innocent people...people were crushed by these two parties and maoists started to imerge using the same tactics of violence, but this time with a different slogan..who knows when this will end????

..maybe some day nepal wil be republic ( LOrd save my kingdom!!!)..but again, another party , maybe, in the name of madhesi partyor XYZ will emerge and resort to vilolence to be in power...so i don't know when this will end.....looks like it's a never ending game of killing innocent nepali people....

Some corrections:
1. Prachanda remained underground even after success of people's movement. His demand was stright forward: election for constituent assembly that would decide the political furtune of 23 million nepalese people.

2. In order to understand why Baburam went underground even after his party got 9 out of 205, you need to understand communist movement and the factionalism within his party. As CPN UML becoming streamling political parties to represent leftist agendas (I hate to say that UML did so), the existence of CPN Mashal is in jeorpady and in order to sustain the existence of their party, it is necessary that they should come up with revolutionary political agenda.

3. Why these leaders are underground and pursing a conflict? The answer is pretty much obvious. Leadership benefit. No doubt these Maoist leaders have hard time, but the benefit of being leader is much more than that cost. They can enjoy power, money and can dream running a country if they become success.

4. Now the question is whether the innocent people do understand the incentives the Maosit leaders are trying to secure for themselves. If they know, then why they are supporting them? We need to diagnosis this problem from social, economical and political aspects.
