i tried to ring my boyfriend back in chitwan this morning from my cell phone using sdicard.com calling cards. i used three different ones (nepal, hola NY, and budget) and i just got busy signals on the first two and an "all lines are busy" message on the budget card. i am not sure if it matters if i am calling from a cellphone here or not (i don't have a landline ...)
any help would be appreciate! really like to be able to call him soon!!
thanks
kiki

kiki,

I have been using two calling cards: Himtel's and SuperClean (a cheap calling). I have only been able to connect Kathmandu through Himtel's - that too after numberous tries. I have programmed the access numbers, PINs and phone number in Nepal in my telephone. So, I keep dialing the number in sequence. Sometimes I get lucky.

Outside Kathmandu could be even more unpredictable. Unless your bf is a anti-monarchist / political activist, he is most likely safe and sound.

Hope it helps.

For my opinion, it will be easy to call outside of KTM than Kathmandu itself... coz lots of ppl are calling ktm at the same time and line is most of the time busy or all circuits are busy....

one of my freind from Narayangadh, he has been able to talk with his family back home may be you will be able to talk with ur bf sooon

You can keep trying Kiki ji, hopefully you will be able to.. ohh yeah there is no difference calling from landline or cell phone.

usofa,

Reading your post made me laugh. I had a similar experience few days ago.

Time 10 PM Nepal time

Me: Hello
Ooota: Hello, Kallai khojya? (Pissed off voice)
Me: Rameshlai
Oota: Ko Ramesh?
Me: Mailay Baneswor gareko. Wrong number parecha ki k ho?
Oota: Kaam chaina...rati rati phone garcha..yo Chabahil ...%$@!*

I hang up. I look up the dialed number. Number ta milcha. Bekar ma gali khayiyo ko Chabahil basiko.

i was luck to get 25 minutes for $5 this morning with that card from nepalisite.com, then when i bought another one an hour ago, the rate had changed. but yes i agree to AX, the quality was perfect--like talking to someone here. i got fed up with those sdi card and other cards. paisa matra naas.
i hope there will be cheaper cards available but with quality.
