Single ID card

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Feb 14 - Plans are afoot to prepare a multipurpose electronic card, which will hold all information of an individual in government records.

Dubbed as the National Card, the card will incorporate the records of citizenship, passport, driving license and land ownership of each individual.

This will allow government offices to check the single person?s profile without the need to look into different identity papers. (yb)

This is definitely a good start. Of course, once you have so much information about an individual at one place, the chances of them being exploited will very high. But with effective policies and inducing multiple levels of checks & balances about who can and can not access those info,, this would definitely be the "Next Big Thing" for nepal.
Ahh... somebody is finally thinking !!!

Single national ID card will be disiaster and lead to a massive invasion of privacy of individuals.
Single national ID Card was proposed here in Canada after 9/11 but most general public angrily opposed it and was disbanded before it even started.

Isnt Driver's Lisence, Health Card and PR Card already enough surrender of private info ?

Wonder who will fund the project. How much will Gyane dai make. Sharad Chandra Shah is into this, I heard he is broke from his previous marriage and is now married to younger gal. He probably needs some cash!!!!!!!!!

Same ole nepali mentality of looking into things with cynicism. While scrutinizing things with valid reasons are fine, having the utmost negativism about anything thats coming out from the government is definitely not healthy. will lead us no where.
So, I guess we should never build any roads in nepal, should never try to privatize the tax payers black hole of RNAC, should never go along with the Melamchi, or never initiate another hydropower project because someone will be making lots of commission out of these projects....
Instead of criticizing just for the sake of criticizing, shouldn?t we be coming up with policies that will prevent the commissionism / bhrasthachar ?
