Hey people... by looking at the stories posted by other sajha people.. I recieved an inspiration to write something of my own.. hehe THough it might not be as good but bear with me..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After spending two years with my parents in the USA I returned to Nepal and was admitted to Modern Indian School. The impression of the school was well known, but my grandparents believed that CBSE was much recognized than the nepali board. My first year there was an average? but my sixth and seventh standard sucked. Though I did manage to pass in the finals, I never really made it in the first and second terms. Hindi- which was a new subject for me, was so difficult that I never managed to pass. Plus I was scared out of my pants of the teacher. Her hobby was to slap me in class. She totally loved it, and as a result I became less confident and became more timid. I did not find any motivation to study Hindi.

Though I was popular in school, as I was the only student that had been to states, but my confidence decreased everyday. I felt more and more inferior and sometimes would wonder why my friends liked me. As a result my grades suffered even more. My parents were back from states and they were noticing my dilemma. It was a different story for my brother. He did not suffer from any inferiority but he started bunking his classes and his grades suffered too. So in the year 1996, when I was 12, my parents made a decision that would affect the rest of our lives. We were to go to India. I loved to read the Malory Towers by Edith Blyton, so was totally excited to go to a boarding school. I kept fanaticizing about how it would be.

There was an incident that almost changed their decision though. In November of 1996, I went to feed my dog, as I loved dogs like crazy. I don?t know what he was thinking but he plunged at me. I felt a drop of blood in my right shoulder and realized that he had bitten me. When my grand parents saw that my ear was bitten they started panicking and wanted to rush me to a hospital. I didn?t understand why they were so fanatic.. but realized how serious it was when my grand dad shouted,

?How can we go to the hospital without the piece of her ear???

The dog had ripped out half an inch of my right ear. Our helper found the piece of my ear near the area my dog was, and we rushed to the hospital. My parents had gone to my cousins place at that time. As my grandparents had some bad experience with Teaching hospital, they took me to Bir hospital instead. We were told that the piece could not be stitched back. Had they taken me to Teaching hospital, it would have been stitched back immediately. So as a result I had to have plastic surgery from a group of Plastic surgeons traveling from the US.

As my dad is a doctor, he took me to several places taking shots.. and man that sucked.
Though a lot of other things were fun like chocolates from relatives. The surgery took place on December 1996, 2 days before my finals, but I managed to pass. On January 1997, my dad, mom, brother and me took a trip to India to find the institute where we were to go? And so the journey started that would leave an impression in my heart for life?

Oki? Now after a long break I am back to write about me and India? hehehe.. Hope you guys still read it and that I am not getting boring. Oki, so I was in the 10th std. Hmmm.. In 10th me and Anisha were in one room and Sharmila and Anita were in the other room. We still hung out together, but we had to be separated because 10th graders either had two or three people living in a room. We had to stay back during the vacations for the first time, and Anisha and me were more like rule breaking and not caring about what was happening, but Sharmila and Anita were more careful. There was a new warden who hated Anisha and me but loved them.

We were not allowed to eat with hands, and once a senior was feeding me with her hand in the dining room. The new warden Rajni maam spotted us and started shouting. The thing that pissed me off was that instead of shouting at the both of us, she was only shouting at me!!

"Rythm yeh tum kyaa kar rahi ho?"
"Maam Riya mujhe khana khila rahi hai" I said with a sweet smile.
"Who to mujhe bhi dikhai de rahaa hain.. magar yeh kyo tumhe khilaa rahi hai?"
"Maam hummey mummy ki bahoot yaad atti hai, isliye jaisey meri mummy mujhe khana khilati hai, Riya mujhe khila rahi hai!!"
"Mummy ki yaad ayi to ek doosre ko khana khilaoge tum log! Agar kal doggie ki yaad ayegi to bhau bhau karte firogey kya?"
I looked at her with a surprise and said "Maam aisa nahi kehna chahiye, aap mummy aur doggie ko compare kartey ho?"
She din know what to say so she just barged off. But we never did that again. She was a new warden, if the old one had seen us.. no one would have recognized my face the next day (or my bum;) ).

We would not even wake up when the warden came to wake us in the morning. She was the funniest person ever. She would come barging in our room and say.. "Rythm, Anisha? utho!!" We would just stir and make noise to show our annoyance. She would tell us over and again and did not quit till we finally got out of bed. Much better than Sanju maam?s bal sudhar!;) Sometimes we never got up and made lousy excuses. She could not do a thing about it. Once Anisha was only sleeping in her undies (because it was sooo hot), and Rajni maam literally came in shrieked and ran out of the room and shouted. "Anisha.. tumhe soney ka tareeka bhi nahi hai!!"

Sometimes I think about her and feel bad about what we did:(. Some people even locked her inside her room. She was so terrified that she started crying. No one would open up because we all were scared that she would think that she would think we did it. In the end, Sharmila and Anisha unlocked her and consoled her while she cried. They became her fav. students and we were probably the worse. That?s one teacher that hated me!

As Anisha and Sharmila were her favorite, they had some liberty of breaking the rule and getting away with it. Hence, they made the sweeper their friend. She would supply them eggs and other food items that were not available in the school premises. So one day Anita came to me and said that they had some chicken. I was so excited, I hadn?t had chicken for months. I went to their room. They had a small container that had some chicken that looked like some one added too much spice to it. There was some chapatti too. Sharmila was eating the chapatti with some gravy, and was taking small bites of the chicken. I did not know what to expect so I was just eating the gravy and chapatti, Anita however was only eating the chicken. She was even chewing on the bones. While Anita was busy eating, Sharmila pulled out one piece from the container and it was the frigging head of the bird. And the bird was no chicken? IT WAS A CROW!! It had a beak, its eyes were closed it also had it esophagus hanging out of it. The only thing it did not have was a body!

I almost pueked out. Anita who had the piece in her mouth looked at us as if she din know what to do. As if at once, we all left what in our hand, spit what was in our mouth and ran to the sink to wash our mouths. That was the yuckiest thing I have ever had in my life. Later we came back to the room to examine what bird it really was. There was no mistaking it, it was a crow.

Sharmila and Anita thought that the sweeper was a witch and was trying to bewitch them by making them eat the crow. They joked about the crow?s spirit flying in their rooms at nights and haunting them. Whatever it was, it was scary. I wonder what the sweeper aunty (that?s what we called her) thought when she cooked the crow for us. The only reason they did this was because t hey wanted us to give them our clothes and shoes, which we did. But I can still visualize the head with the beak and esophagus hanging out. Ughhh!!

There would be no morning P.T when it rained. We would pray to god for rain. The area of my school was kind of a desert area, so it was very dry. We would love it when it rained, we would go out and get wet and then later run inside the bathrooms. Our warden would get really mad at us. But the best was when it rained in the morning. One such day, it wasn?t exactly raining, but it looked like it would rain any minute. We got up in the morning but believe it or not the WHOLE hostel went back to sleep because we thought that there would be no morning P.T.

There use to be 2 helpers of the wardens who sometimes came to woke us up. One was called "amma ji" and the other one was "aunty ji". Each hostel had separate ones. So when amma ji came to wake us up in the morning, no one in the hostel got up. We told her, "amma ji aaj morning P.T. nahi hai." If one room din get up, no one got up. So the big complainer box went and told Sanju maam about. Sanju maam got so enraged that she came to every room with Bal Sudhar. She hit us so hard that day that we literally had red marks on our thighs and it swelled up.

So we got up after that and me and Anisha were getting ready to go to P.T. We were changing into out P.T skirts when Anisha started putting her hand on her forehead and saying that she was feeling dizzy. After some time she sat down on the floor and put her head on her hand."?Oii k bhayo talai?" I asked. "Chito ready ho Sanju maam room bhitra ayera tan ready bhaa dekhena bhanney feri pitai khanchas."

So Anisha got up and tried to dress up. Her cupboard was right next to mine, so I was all ready with my shoes on when Anisha literally put her hand on her forehead, her head went round and round 3 times and then she landed on my foot. Well at least her head was on my feet. I got so scared "Anisha? oiii k bhayo?" She did not reply me. I tried to lift her up but she was so still. Her head was tilted to one side and her hands and fingers were crawled inwards. Every part of her body was stiff. I could not even get her hands to fold. Now Anisha was like 4 inches taller than me and weighed 10 kg more. Specially when she was stiff, I could not even get her head off my feet.

I was scared to death. There was no one else in the room to help me. I knew that Sanju maam was in the corridor. So with no other choice, I started calling Sanju maam. I started shouting her name as loud as I could. Now fear makes you do things. Fear is very strong, it gives you powers that you never knew you possessed.. it might even bring the dead to life. Well maybe that's exaggeration but this is the "heights of fear" that I saw that day. Not my fear, Anisha's fear!

As soon as Sanju maam came inside the room shouting "kyaa huwa kyo chilla rahi hai?" The girl that was dead on my feet, the same girl who would not bulge when I applied my full force, got up, walked to her bed and fainted again!! That is the most absurd thing I had ever seen. Sanju maam told me to go get some water for her and let her stay there through morning P.T. Later we found out that Anisha had a goiter, due to the deficiency of iodine fir which she had to get operated later. I still remember her distorted horrific face on my feet with the stiff body. And I still remember her walking to her bed and fainting. That day I found out how truly scared she was of Sanju maam.
