KATHMANDU, April 14 - A writ petition filed Wednesday at the Supreme Court seeks to make blood tests mandatory for would-be spouses before marriage.
Januka Bhattrai of Dibyashori Samaj, an NGO working on public health, filed the Public Interest Litigation at the court yesterday claiming that people had contracted HIV/AIDS after wedlock in the absence of such tests prior to marriage.
The defendants in the writ petition are the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry for Child and Social Welfare and National Center for Controlling AIDS and Sexual Diseases.
