I am pretty sure there are lots of musical talents at Sajha.

I would like to introduce my 5 year daughter to music with simple Nursery rhymes on Piano.

I am literally zero with music.

However, I managed to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for her and her could reproduce the sound and was very happy.

Can some one please tell me how I should go ahead.

To teach her I need to learn first.

Help me!

I would find books and videos/dvds from local public library that teaches music to the young kids. You both can learn that way and it will be double the fun! You can surely pick up faster than your little kid but who knows your daughter may exceed your expectations! Good luck with the lessons.
Make sure you can pick up very simple notation books and let her play based on those simple notations. This is a good time to start that up.

I wish my parents taught me instrument.. but Revival is right about taking out videos and books. Look up things online aswell if something looks worth it buy it. GOOD LUCK!
I also think kids pick up things really fast so don't be surprised when she is better that you!

shirish bro, go to this site and it should be helpful.

Do not, I repeat, do not pay a single penny for any music book. I can tell you that it is simply a waste of time and money as most of the info about music is found in the internet.

Go to the following site:

http://www.musictheory.net/legacy.html

And start from the 'Major Scale'. You can completely ignore earlier chapters as I believe that learning music notations is a waste of time (though many would afgue that). Not that I dont know notations but my logic is that you dont have to write a piece of music on paper nowadays, u can record it in mp3.

Also, d0nt jump into the so-called over-hyped chords (anyone's grandmother could show you a couple of d or c e minor or whatever chords). Know the scales and they are like knowing the alphabets and u can create your music. Also try singing (riyaaz) with the scale pattern and this should help develop your or your daughter's 'ear' as they say.

Like I said earlier, go to the site and start from the 'major scale'. All the best.

I never paid attention to Sa re ga ma pa da re sa ( i should have!) thing but it seems it is the major scale in itself. [I am not quite sure but it doesnt matter anyway] So when i say sing with the scale as shown in the above website, try to blend your (or your daughter's voice) with the sound produced and that is one of the best music exercises.

i hope i havent flooded you with overload of information. Dont hesitate to post about confusions, if any. I will try my best to answer any questions.
