MEMORYLANE - 1

Enjoy reading first chapter

It was midnight, dark and cool. I tried to sleep but I could not. Chilly breeze entered through the whole of the window of the train. I closed my eyes tightly and invited a dream but it was unsuccessful attempt again. Cold air kissed me gently, made me shiver and went away.

I was at lower berth; plump Punjabi, sleeping at upper berth was snoring louder than damaged speaker. Everyone was sleeping except me, I guessed. I thought of flipping the pages of Sidney Sheldon?s ?Nothing Lasts Forever? but I did not dare to put on lights at midnight. Helplessly, I tried to sleep and I was badly defeated. I had a good sleep the other afternoon. The train had left this morning from New Delhi. I tried to play on my Walkman but batteries were old. At that moment, I agreed with Disraeli who once quoted ?Travel teaches toleration?.

All of a sudden, something pinched me pleasantly, I was excited. Train was moving on its own speed, there was dark. In my mind good old days started pouring. I remembered my school days, going to school barefoot in dirty shirt and torn half pant. In rainy season we used to fight in class to get a seat at safe place. Life was really beautiful in those days.

Since childhood, I was crazy about music but there was not transistor in my house. I used to walk an hour to listen radio. In those days, I used to dream that one fine day I would travel by train, speak English, and lay down on a beautiful beach with my kind of music. Of late, I have danced madly on a beach, and done everything else I used to dream of. But now I like my naughty and childish life. God, make me a child for tonight.

During break time of school, we used to run empty stomach; we did not have even 25 paisa to buy BARAF (ice-cream). Those boys used to be the heroes of class who licked Baraf and definitely I was not among them.

Train was in its rhythm, and I was travelling in my own track faster than the train, reminding wonderful memories of bygone days. After school, I came to India for +2. Believe me, it was so painful to leave those dear friends with whom you shared so many things for so many years. We could do nothing as the show must go on.

I missed my friends greatly; I was among odd people in odd place. First day of my college was awful. I was in a city of the people of 7 million, all new faces for me. I felt like suffocating. Gradually, those odd people turned very closed to me and odd place Hyderabad became very special.

Oh, train had stopped, new station might had arrived. Life is a journey as well. We passed many stations. In some stations we halt longer and in some not. I lost into the past. I heard past is a bucket of ashes but the ashes here are stronger than cement.

To be contd..........

Dear all frines of sajha,
Inspired by many frines stories and articles, I ve also given a try to write something.......Well... Angreji ma lekkhne sano jamarko gareko chhu.... Without urs encourgements and comments it would be impossible, of course. Please stay tuned and hope to get urs feedbacks and how was first part????

Talking of Hyderabad, have u tried the Hyderabad Briyani? Hear the recipe was a secret and was actually passed down from word of mouth in the Mogul era. That was then, I ate it like 2 years ago and these ladies took a whole day to make it, seems u need a special mud vessel, so they had to do an extensive search in the US but the food was worth spending all the time and effort. Maybe MONEYMINDED knows more about it. Or any Iron Chefs out there, do enlighten us!

Also nice story, please continue.

never been to Hydarabad but been to Visakapatnam and fuk Vijayawada station....... sadai jutta chor haru ko jamghat hune ani hami sadai train ko khana khane, bhakhar dinner khayera baseko helama Vijayawada aayo.. biryani.. oyyyeee biryani bhandai aayo ... hatta na patta kinera pheri khayeko ta sirf bhuteko bhaat matrai kya bore bhane...

Like Manab, we always get off the station and eat whatever we get there... 4 freinds ( still 2 are in India) and we all write the expenses on the book so once we reach the destination, we can divide equally, always our expenses would be like3-4 hundred per person...even we asked for Khukhura ko sekuwa and bagpipper from the them, for that, we have to give Rs 10 extra to the waiter.

....... Bro le pani RAPTISAGAR EXPRESS chadne ho Gorakhpur bata .... GORAKHPUR TO Cochin ..... Raptisagar NEver on time.... never always 5-6 hrs late

Wiz kid How was Vishakhapatnam stay? Hope it was great.. Well about Jutta chor in trains in India its very commnn. The best idea is to tie shoes whit lace below seat in iron rod (attached to seat).

Still the best idea is to keep one shoe in bag and one to leave down..... they will never take only one SHOE.....

Next time u travel, apply this....

Just got out of train.............. it was already 9:30 in the evening. Did not know where to go. Frankly speaking I could not afford hotel. You see, I taught home tuition for 3 months in Kathmandu to come here. Standing in a bus statino puzzled where should I go toninght. Though I have had many options, i realised I could have informed earlier about my arrival but foolish I was......I wanted to give surprise.

Should I go to Nampally where ony Nepali brother is working as a Security guard? or I should go Punjagutta where My Nepail fren Moti Bahadur is working as a dish washer.

Oh! What about her? Should I call her? Has she completely forgotten me? Does she still have same emotions and feelings for me? I went crazy again... with trembling hand by collecting all the courage I dialed phone from one public booth.... didnt know why I could not do that...... Were I timid? She lives just nearby, I know it where I ve been many times. Does she still sing those oldies "Tu is tarah se mere jindagai me samel ho......."

And her curved nose striking face, Nazma was her name! covering her face always with Black Burkha no one dared to touch except me........ reminding her I found myself recharged.

Finally took bus and went to see Kiran Dai... bus no. 7 passed through Secunderabad, MG Road, SP road, Hussain Sagar, Secreteriat, Public garden, Lakdi ka pool and finally to Nampally.... ..........

To be contd..............

Thanks for ur time

Dear Friends of sajha,
As I have promised Im here with another chapter but Ive changed my way of writing, I think no one would be much excited to read life story of an ORDINARY guy like me. Therofre, from now I will post only the memorable experiences which can be INTERESTING to read and also some incidents which are directly related to our society whihc also can reflect our social problems and taboos. Here is one MEMRABLE incident in India Gate in Delhi.

MEMORYLANE-4
Rendezvous with Prostitutes in Delhi.

In spite of my fourth trip to New Delhi, it was my first visit to India Gate. In school days I used to get confused about India Gate of New Delhi and Gateway of India of Mumbai. Well, after wandering around Palika Bazar and busy streets of Connaught Place I finally caught a bus to India Gate, What surprises me heavily in Delhi often is the simple yet sophisticated life. Ladies, gentlemen, and the youngsters patiently waiting for the city buses. Dressed in the modest way,

"Taxi" like in Kathmandu? No way. No show off, no hip hop, no mini skirt, no cigar nothing else but a mobile in one hand and an English magazine in the other. Sounds great, isn't it? In the city buses of Delhi do not expect a conductor to come and ask for a ticket, you must go and help yourself. But it is pretty common to find many Delhities trying hard to play a tricky game. Clever enough.

"India Gate...India Gate............." shouted a conductor in the hoarse voice. I got off pushing and shoving the crowd. The moment I got off from bus I flustered for a while and interestingly moved towards Rashtrapati Bhawan and a farcical temptation ran into my mind, whether I could get a glimpse of APJ Abdul Kalam, really I was foolish. Meanwhile I pondered myself staring at parlieament building," Is this the ultimate destination of all the politicians, who are playing a game called politics just to get a berth here?" Anyway I felt great to be there.

I was exhausted after a long walk from Rajpath to India Gate, yet there was some sort of tempo, which kept me thrilling. Yes that was India Gate;.Well, I took a seat under a tree in India Gate garden. Nearby two girls were whispering dressed in pink kurta and blue kurta whom I noticed lately. Wow! They were gazing me as if they wanted to kill me. I kept on flipping the pages of Filmfare. "Should I ask them to take my snap?" as I was looking for someone to click my photo. I tried to ask but I did not dare to do so, I was really diffident. "Excuse me " "Will you please take my photo" I asked a lanky moustached man passing nearby me " Kyu nahi?" apparently reply came in the husky voice. "Thanks " I shook hand and gave a wry smile. He must be a local Delhitie, I guessed.

Still they were staring at me, I could not see their face properly but what I confirmed was that they were trying to allure me and doing everything to attract my attention, I was rather confounded, really. They shifted their place and came nearer and nearer, now I could see them vividly. The girl wearing a pink Kurta was sharp and Indian looking girl and the other one wearing blue one was a half Mongolian look with a fringe and dimples in cheeks, aged around twenty, I guessed. They started throwing pebbles pointing at me. I was still going through Filffare and obviously it was a sham.

"What's time now?" I dared to talk covering my Titan watch with my sleeve of white T-shirt. "2:30" was her prompt response. The pink one enquired " Are you new in Delhi?" in pure Hindi tongue, "Yes" I said. Now they felt ease to come closer and started pouring unlimited and unnecessary questions. "Puzzled" I was. Who are these girls? Are these harlots? There were many possibilities.

Ironically, then I wanted to escape but ..........I had had lots of questions to be answered. Believe me, I was ruffled when I heard them speaking in Nepali language. I got a clue and I was right but I was not happy. I wish I were wrong. My heart hardened and felt as through my blood frozen. By the way I did not introduce myself as a Nepali at the outset. They could not identify either. "Where do you live?" I asked deliberately "Indrapuri, Old colony" she said. "Your name?" Was my next question "What's in name?" She put question to question . Finally I asked " Are you from Nepal?"

To be contd...................
Thanks for reading.....

Hey SAJHA ka sathi haru...

MEMORYLANE-5
Rendezvous with Prostitutes in Delhi (part-II contd)

Finally I dared to ask "Are you from Nepal?" She said nothing this time. The blue one was pretty shy all the answers were furnished by the pink one. It sounded like I was interviewing them. I felt pity for them. I wanted to know the whole shebang of them." How do they survive? How does all this hell happen to them? How were they dying to live?" I wanted to put all the questions in one go. "Where are you at loss of?" Pink one shouted immediately, "Nowhere" I grinned.

Perhaps I was not talking to their point of view. They might have found me obnoxious. So I decided to put a question just to know much about them. Well, I have already had of sense of recognition for them. I reckoned them as my own sisters. Alas! They were unaware. However I gathered all the guts and dared to ask" How much do you............?" But I could not and how could I..........?

"Bahini Ma pani Nepali ho" (I am from Nepal, sisters) finally I broke out but a big pause and no reactions only nonplussed. " I asked in Nepali about taking their photos but they denied directly. I kept camera aside. " From which part of Nepal you are actually?" I wanted to be as intimate as I could. " Ramechhap, Sindhului, Nuwakot, Jahapa?" I was asking again. But they were whispering themselves. I just felt pity, they were not serious at all. Without saying a word they gave a final glance and made their way. I could not cease them. In fact I could do nothing. I wonder how they have to scrimp for their hand to mouth in alien land where they must hate their own brothers. Imagine the thousands of Pinkies and Blues drowning in the city of Delhi, which is not, less than hell for them. I kept on gazing t hem. In no time one black man in early forty was holding Pinky's arm. I bet this time he was asking " How much for a night?"

Thanks for reading
The End ( this topic only, will be back with another incident)

Anyone............ similar experiences?

Hey people, If somebody says Nepal is not an indeppendent country, it is under India. How do u feel?????? Here is one bitter experince.

MEMORYLANE-6

A serious question

" Nepal is one of the states of India", when Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit argued it in Nepal, millions of Nepali shocked and wonder whether beauty queen of India is joking. And people started getting scepticism over perception of Indians including her. Just think once if so is the condition of the internationally exposed Indian then how miserable could be the knowledge of an ordinary Indian.

While doing my +2 in South India I got an opportunity to get along with many Indians. Moreover it was a time to get exposure how an ordinary Indian perceives their neighbour. Difficult to believe and thorny to write as a but most of them even don't know "Nepal is a sovereign country." During my study years in Hydreabad, Andhra Pradesh, I had experienced such bitter experiences time and again.

One lousy evening after having dinner I felt homesick and wanted to make a call home. Though I was running dry I decided to call making sure that I had to survive without tiffin in college canteen for couple of days. As I entered telephone booth I saw a skeletal old man with long moustache in counter. I said " I have to make an ISD call'. "ISD call why not?" He was happy to hear ISD.

Apparently, he asked me in detail about making a call; "Nepal" was my answer. To my surprise he bewildered and screeched out "Nepal?" He alleged "is not a different country, it is a part of India". I became so infuriated and distressed that I wanted to hit a big blow on his wrinkled face but remembered, " Ignorance can be excused."
Forgetting about phone call I explained as vividly as I could, but he was still adamant. I suggested him to take the help of directory, which was just on the table. Instead of flipping the pages of directory he asked a black chap who was sitting nearby. "Is Nepal a seperate country?" Old thin man asked him, it was really overside, I could not tolerate but I did nothing. He again asked him" Is there a country called Nepal?" And you know, what was his answer " Yes, there is Nepal but not country, it is inside India". Just guess what would you have done if you were in my place. People say your country is not a country in front of you and you could do nothing; I felt greatly dishonoured and wanted to roar but.....that was not my land.

Then, it was his turn to listen my lesson as I started giving clarifications. I told him " Brother, Nepal is not under any country neither it was like India under British" he felt disrespected. " And for your kind information, Nepal is the only one country which was not under any slavery". I went on and on. I gave examples of Mt. Everest and Lord Buddha but he chuckled and said, " Yes we know Mt. Everest is in Nepal, but don't forget Nepal is in India". But I kept quiet as there was directory on the table and I wanted to show them that. Still they were trying to be right and I persuaded them to go through directory and they did on my force. Then, as they found Nepal on international list they were baffled and said "Really we did not know it; we are sorry", lest they had no other way to get excuse.

That incident made me serious and ponder about our country Nepal and Big Bad Brother India. The very next day I asked around twenty friends of my college where was Lord Buddha born. Everyone said "Lumbini" but to my surprise they all belive it is in India. It is not their fault either as they are taught in the same way. I wonder, when the whole world knows that Nepal as a country of Mount Everest where Buddha was born, why and how our closest neighbour India and our Indian brothers-sisters are unaware of it? Isn't it a serious question?

The end (this topic) will be back with another one

Thanks for reading.

Answer:

India is a part of Africa. If thats your history..know some geograhy..Mount everest is one of the youngest mountain formed with the movement of tectonic plates.(refer to tsunami)...the sea level rose and brought about the mahabharat range...mostly all parts of Nepal is nothing but the risen sea level..in the same sense David Attenborough in his books speaks about india being of the plateus that got away from Africa...which makes Nepal a young soveirgn nation...and Indai a part of Srilanka or Africa..where Ravana resided some centuries ago...proof of Dianosuers and fossils still lay clogged in parts of our Himalayan country...we have absolute no ties with slaves of their weaknesses provoked by the British Empire.....on second thoughts, we second the slavery of another empire..who's weakness is that now...????????

Here we go...

THE MAGIC OF MEDITATION- 10 days in a Vipassana center, Budhanilakantha
Memorylane-7

We were around 150 souls there for the real journey into mind and our main objective was to penetrate the deepest level of the unconscious mind and learn how to eradicate the complexes lying there. People from different parts of the world were there. And we could see the people from eighteen years to eighty years; great numbers of foreigners were with great curiousity. But all of us wanted the same and have had the same mission "Deep surgical operation of mind" through ancient art of meditation Vipassanna. It was ten days course at Muhan Pokhari, Budhanilkantha, Nepal Vipassana Centre in the laps of Shivapuri National Park just 30 minutes drive from Kathmandu. The place was just perfect and appropriate in the middle of the luscious jungle far away from hustle and bustle of the city.

Vipassanna, an ancient yet very much scientific art of meditation was taught by Lord Gautam Buddha around twenty five hundred years ago. Vipassana means, "to see the things as they really are". And also "the process of self-purification by self observation". Similarly the ultimate goal of it is to give the highest spiritual goals of total liberation and full enlightenment. It does not believe in theory or in any religion. This technique was vanished for many hundred of years but in 20th century a business tycoon of Myanmar (then Burma) Satya Narayan Goenka popularly known as SN Goenka took the mission to help the people of the world with this wonderful technique Vipassana. As a result now there are many vipassanna centres around the world including in Nepal, India, Australia, USA, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka and in other countries. Millions of people around the world have learnt this art and changed their lives entirely. Be it Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, Shikh or from any other religion; everyone has benefited from it. In Nepal, Nepal Vipassana Centre was established in 1981AD and there are four such centres in Nepal in Kathmandu, Birgunj, Chitwan and at the birthplace of Lord Buddha Lumbini.

Well, as our first day began at four in the morning, I could see all excitement in everybody's face. The life at Vipassana was totally different and unbelievable. Those ten days in one sense were the most suffering and difficult days of my life physically, mentally and psychologically. We had to follow all the rules and regulations and should be self disciplined. We all were not allowed to speak even a single word, if we had any questions then only we could talk to our teacher and management. For the whole ten days we had to maintain "Noble Silence". Noble silence means not just maintaining silence of verbalisation but also of gesture, signals, eyes and action. The main objective of this was to keep oneself focused which helps tremendously in meditation. There, we should cultivate the feeling that we were working in isolation. There was one more thing, which we had to follow conscientiously during the whole Vipassanna course. The five precepts which include to abstain from killing any living creature, stealing, telling lies, all sexual activities and to abstain from all intoxicants.

The life at Vipassanna was not different than of prison. There in jail you could speak and share your feelings of happiness and sorrow ness to your fellow prisoners but here that was also not allowed. No newspapers, no TV, no radio, no telephone, no magazines, no book, no pen nothing as a whole out of communication world to concentrate on oneself. Any form of communication was strictly prohibited. In Dhamma Hall there were blue cushions over the sophisticated carpet. Hard to believe we had to sit for meditation ten hours a day. Yes every day ten hours.

To be contd..............

Thanks for reading
