People in Nepal are finally starting to feel the sense of security, hope of ending the war, breathe corruption free air and Nepalese in America are protesting this. I finally feel comfortable to send my kids to their school because there are security people around their school so that our kids can feel safer and concentrate on their studies with out any fear. Finally we have more working days and less Nepal bandh, lot less protest rallies unlike in the past when there used to be rallies every single day by some group against every government we have ever had. RNA is risking their lives and finally, starting to take controller over the towns and villages which moist previously had been dictating and killing everyone if they didn?t like their face. Nepalese people in Nepal finally getting back the hope they had lost, that some day we could be moist free, a safe country to live in.

People! These are good signs. This makes our country more democratic and you people are protesting against it. I live in Nepal and I am not as highly educated as most of you who live in America. It is a shame that you are protesting against the better things that are happening in my country. How could you be so ruthless? How could you be so blind? You all are living a better life there, why are you all trying to be smart a55. We are the one we have to put up with all the things. Why are you trying to take away our security, our happiness? If tomorrow with your effort Girija, or sher bahadur, or Madhav comes back to the power, our life is going back to the same ciaos again. They are not brave enough to go head to head with our nation?s enemy. They are not loyal enough to fulfill our dreams. Pease don?t get me wrong, I love democracy but I just don?t believe in our democratic leaders. I dream every day that someday we would be land of peace again. Please don?t shatter 22 million people?s dreams. If you can?t help please don?t hurt either.

IF I WERE THE PRESIDENT OF NEPAL: I WILL MAKE NEPAL THE SUPERPOWER OF THE WORLD....

1. I WILL BUILD NEPAL AS THE BRIDGE BETWEEN the EMERGING POWERS of INDIA AND CHINA Instead of getting punched by BOTH. THEY WILL BOTH COME IN NEPAL -to TRADE INtelligent workers (india) and MAssive INFRASTRUCTURE (CHINA) only via NEPAL.

2. DOING SO will require facilities - HQS to trade and talks, which I will incoproate through by building and incoporating development in NEPAL by channelling riches into the nation and multiplying the riches by empowering and assisting gfenral public - mostly the idle maoist - supplying them with jobs. Other than Nepal will be basis for SAARC communties as well.

3. RICHES IN A POOR COUNTRY you might ask- how???LEVERAGE IS the term here - when you have good realtiions with the EUROs JAPAN AND AUSTRALIA, what else are you looking for? DEBT?LEVERAGE from Japan cud be brought about by providing land for multinationals - TOYOTA- Toyota is focusing in hybrid - lectro cars, we have electricity..GErmany wants to sell high tech cheaper in asia - target Nepal for cheaper facilities / people Norway - Electricity, Microsoft can base their camp in Nepal to monitor asain market and so many others..EACH will have trickle down effect to every citizen of Nepal..it requires to focus on real goals than running around people's houses for money inorder to kill a badel...for a house party..

4. Once the projects start up- this requires people to work on- when people work they shall be taxed, for those not working and living luxoriously i will tax them 70% of their leisurous activity. WHAT I CALL For here is A SYSTEM - a proper system.

5. ANYBODY who lives in Kathmandu will be taxed again - highly - like NY Taxes. That way..they pay for the all the facilities in KTM and also encourage people to build cities beyond KTM..the further away from the city the less tax- RUKUM AND DOLPA- no tax- get the picture????WHen cities build in remote areas - it will sustain the life there and this means major development.

6. Each Private Organization will have to contribute at least 45 % as tax or development of rural areas. e.g. Golcha will be assigned to build 100 schools per year and 100 old homes for the needy if his income will exceed 100 crore a year. I will help each and every entreprenuer - leverage them to build their dreams succeeed.

7.WHen women in rural areas can work why can't the women in cities. I will tax for every female member of tghe family if they are sitting at home doing nothing..so the men in the family will have to push them to work even if it means washing neighbour's clothes. Similarly there will be 90% on luxury taxes such as liqour, clubs and casinos - you are allowed if you can pay for it.

8. The taxes henceforth collected will be chaneelised equllay into the country - to build tranposrtations, facilities, to fund entreprenuerships, to sanction on basic neccesities, food and clothing and housing and health - the govt pays 50% on these items - i will at least not let anybody go hungry- but 50% will encourage people to work on their asses to make their food taste better. I will incoprorate free schooling and FREE of TAXES who will adopt either an orphan in their homes or an aids victim / bring nepali chelibetis from the whorehouses in INdia.

9. Nepal will join hands with USA to fight terrorism - that includes eradication of all the musaltes from UAE ( space time network incs-yak yeti incs..soaltee incs..) and thus US sanctions most of our debts in return....

10...Well i'm writing a thesis for my PHD to formulate a economy for Nepal ..so excuse me ..if i don't hit your head straight with my pointers here for now....rest you'll read from my book when it comes out....

....till then vote for democracy, vote yourslef and reach there to the top..

Well, Hushpuppy, what are you doing your PhD in? I don't want to be abnoxious to claim that I know a little about economics but a lot of your "plans" seem very unrealistic (given your democratic leanings) and counter-productive (give your "growth" yearnings). Maybe we should start a different thread to talk about optimal tax-policy and "development"-policy and trade policy? How about that?

Just wanted to make couple of comments.

I probably hate this king as equally as any of you might do, but still, I am willing to give him a chance here. You talk about the luxury cars that the king gets, or an increase in royal expenditures, but have you ever realized how that became possible? Who apportions the royal budget? It was during the time of fkin SBD (or one of those bastards) that the government increased the royal budget by 7 times. Also, t was approved by the Shere government to give a donation of 90,000 (pound sterling) for the treatment of one of the richest families of the country in a foreign land while a part of the country was starving. Who is to blame here?

Poonte,
Going back to your same analogy, the main flaw, or rather should I say, the assumption that you make is that there are only two teams?the royals and the parties. You seemed to forget another group?the Maoists?which is equally powerful to disturb the rules of the game. So, you cannot expect to have a ?fair? game under these circumstances; free and fair game means saying the Maoists?who apparently do not care about the rules of the game? to come and hit us while we debate on the rules of the game. Parties are helpless; all they can do is bitch and cry about how unfair the rules are.

I don?t think Democracy is ALWAYS the best form of government.

Guest4,

The current match is between those who support an absolute king and those who support the people's free will. Maoists, at this stage, I would imagine, would be teaming with the latter.

All else being a non-issue -- Maoists' abhorable violence being one of them -- in the current LARGER picture of humanity vs. tyranny of the king, there are ONLY two teams here.

Once the field [the democratic platform] is once again restored to it's rightful sacred place, then we can begin to consider the Maoists as a separate team and play against them with greater zeal, better tactics and, best of all, the best ever weapon available: free will of the people. At that point, people would fight along side a truly democratic, genuinely constitutional, pro-people monarch in the same team against the Maoists.

Poonte,

I was only trying to put things fair and square. I mean you guys don't even live in Nepal. What would you know the circumstances that led to the take-over on Feb 1. What would you know about the most pressing needs and aspirations of the nation and the people at this hour? Ultimately, it's the people living in Nepal who will have to endure the pain and hardship -- not you lot.

I couldn't possibly fathom the reasons behind the passing of certain legislations by the US president, could I ? as I don't live in that country. We live in two different planets where our priorities are worlds apart. You live in a first world country which has the highest standard of living; I live in a war-ravaged third world country teetering on the brink of collapse. The single most important thing to you is political freedom. What does political freedom mean to a person in a remote village in Humla? Zilch. Period. Trust me, we worry more about where our next meal is going to come from than anything else.

It's all about priorities. Suppose, there's a person who is really ill, what do you think would be his priority -- medicine or a TV? What use is a TV to an ill man, get my drift? To us, survival -- which is instinctive -- is our first priority. First our basic needs have to be fulfilled and once that is taken care of we can move on to other finer things. Personally, I think political stability and peace is what Nepal needs. Not political freedom. Only if peace and stability prevails, will the economy thrive. Only if the economy thrives will the people have better life. We must stop this cycle of voilence and bring an end to maoist terrorist activities. We can no more endure this pain and hardship.

We have had like 15 governments(correct me if I am wrong) in the last 14 years. The hallmark of multi-party system has been the birth of Maoist insurgency. Their report card has been replete with disasters. The former US ambassador (can't recall his name) to Nepal once, and quite aptly so, likened the tussle for power among parties to 'fighting for the masterbedroom when the whole house was burning'. The politicians emerged as selfish corpse-eating vultures.

It's absurd to blame the King. How can you blame him when it was the political parties running the country for the last 14 years? Com'n be fair to him. That's all I am saying. Let's be objective. It was deuba who dissolved the parliament in 2002, not the King, as one ignorant poster was asserting the other day. Deuba even mocked that he had learnt it from Girija. The political parties themselves admitted thier inability to hold and/or participate in elections. So, in effect, in all but words, democracy was already dead. They themselves killed democracy. It wasn't like the "evil" King woke up one morning, things were all honky dory, and then on the spur of moment he decided that he would take control of the government, or was it? Surely, we had to end this stalemate. The country was fast plunging into absolute lawlessness. I would imagine that the King is the custodian of our constitution, and, as such, it was his resposibility to safeguard the nation and the people.

Poonte ji, I bear no grudges against you. You have always come across as an affable and level-headed guy, which, I must say, is a scarce species in this forum. You called me royalist, which is very unlike you. I have not seen you label people. When I first read that part where you called me a royalist I actually broke into a fit of laughter. Politics isn't exactly my cup of tea. Unlike you (btw, not saying you were wrong to attend a rally), if a pro-monarchy rally were to be held toimorrow, I wouldn't attend it. I am not nearly as passionate as you are on these issues.

As I said in my earlier post my apetite to engage in a protracted discourse on this issue is wearing thin as I know no matter what I say, or what I write, it is not going to make an iota of difference.

[Oh! I still dare you guys -- the pro-democracy participants -- to come and live in Nepal permanently]

Cheers!

Just curious king G took over the country first or maoists ran to the jungle first??? Then what were you netas doing when they had full-fledged democracy which you are crying foul now???? Did your neta ever care or do they have balls to solve the crisis............I honestly doubt.

lokman jiu,

what do you know about us - i mean when you go to a boarding school or a diffrent branch in office- do you lose all your insights about Nepal. Put yourself in my shoes...you'll come across all type of nepalese in one gathering...from bhutanese refugees to likes of you..With that in mind...you tend to learn Nepal better..at some ppoint- partying with refugees i learnt more about the actue problems in rural nepal...some runaway journalists here brought the REAL news..which of course we dissected to know the truth..there were the golddiggers here..no concern with the govt..there were students and there were selfish opportunists who thought about themselves only...WHAT IAM telling you is be assure that my brains are ticking more foe Nepal than yours proly..

why are you talking about tv and illness..here..THIS is how I see things..Forget KIng G for the moment..KING Birendra...tried to keep everyone happy..Evryone in his dictionary became his relatives and people int he army and as far as Nepal is concerned the only good he did was keep shut every nepali in ktm..but not for long..KING G is doing the same thing trying..he wants to keep you happy for a short run..what about the long run..why ignore the bigger issues..just because he wants to keep shut doesn't mean that the poverty in rural areas will vanish...or will he be killing each and every poor person via army to eradicate poverty...YOU SHOULD BE worrying about yourself..unless you are related to him, you will not get a good job, limited faciltiy, no go schoools and all your hard earned income goes as tax into his pocket so that his son can afford a Harley Davidson.

15 parties or 100...parties everyone is voicing their concern..if they do that..whether people belive or not..everynbody gets a chance to look or probe into the issue.if it was King G..he'll amke sure people think that there's no problem...shooting the next person who questions him...everybody will voice..dhunga muda are a li'l barbarias way to negate issues..but we are all learning aren't we...even Americans are bit barbarians than Eurporean..its about the age of democracy..

I appreciate KIng Bire to have stepped down when he did..Either KIng G, throw his crown and start competing locally with a bhariya from Rolpa or...go for a electric shock therapy ..trying to belive that he can blindfold people in the long run..
Inabilty to run a govt comes from inexperience, naiive people...with time..we will know who's the goalkeeper, the footballer and the scorer in a team...do you have enuf faith in yourself to let yourself run your life not King G????????????

what would you ask god if you had just one question?

Do you think Feb 1 was a politician's power grab using the available resources

or

Was it a benevolent move by a saintly, populist, people-touting monarch?

you have the answer sweety and so does GOD..why ask him?? Now are you comparing GOd to G..hahaaha..very sublime..

I think FEB 1 is a caricature of June 1 2001...the bloody Friday..and people are deaf dumb and blind..why don't you ASK YOUR GOD G for real answers here and then we'll go from there

as simple as it can be:

1. 10 years of democracy - KING B is supporting all parties and KING G pissed off mad.
2. 5th year of democracy maosits probelems surfaces - king G ignites them with more supplies, more aggitation..
3.June 1st 2001: KG kills Bire- the wall between him and his access to power
4.2002-2004: King plays chess with all the parties..first he knocks off uml - the easiest loner...then to get to the hardcore Congress, he keeps hiring his people lokendra, surya and deuba..turn by turn by turn: the congress is trapped.
5.2005: Deuba, his maternal uncle phupajuw, and HIM enacts a major drama..do you think deuba is not served champaigns when he is under arrest...you're sooo naiive..the maoist explode..but due to oppression nobody gets the real data who is killing who how much it has worsened under his foulplay...
under 1 yr the KING is leading us straight to hell

HushPussy,
Baby, I thought you were just a free spirit who loves the life of liberty but after reading your post in last several days made me realize you are a Hater. You so sound like Girija lately. I have a feeling that you got some of his blood or something. You hate the kings as well as Deuba and your assumptions and thinkings are alike.
You used to post dirty messages but you always sounded like a fun girl. These you have become pretty political and you might be thinking that it might make a good impression but after reading all that little you know, we all know that you are just another stupid nepali girl. Everyone knows how much you know about yourself, your country.

I miss my old Hush Hush. The new Hush sucks a$$. I hope sujata?s soul has not gotten into Hush?s body.

Dell, I was checking some sites to compare my ..well..hehe..and look what article i found for you..

The Tiger and the Lion...by Anan Kofi..

He shook his head slowly and said, "This nation is like all the nations. And the people are made of the same element and do not vary except in their exterior appearance, which is of no consequence. The misery of our Oriental nations is the misery of the world, and what you call civilization in the West is naught but another spectre of the many phantoms of tragic deception.

"Hypocrisy will always remain, even if her finger tips are coloured and polished; and Deceit will never change even if her touch becomes soft and delicate; and Falsehood will never turn into Truth even if you dress her with silken robes and place her in the palace; and Greed will not become Contentment; nor will Crime become Virtue. And Eternal Slavery to teachings, to customs, and to history will remain Slavery even if she paints her face and disguises her voice. Slavery will remain Slavery in all her orrible form, even if she calls herself Liberty.

"No, my brother, the West is not higher than the East, nor is the West lower than the East, and the difference that stands between the two is not greater than the difference between the tiger and the lion."
Gibran, (Gibran) Kahlil. "The Tempest."
