Hi guys!

I have some negative items in my credit report which is making me difficult to acquire credit. I checked my credit today and there is 60 day delinquency on the record and one item on the collection which I already paid a long time back, but it still remains on the record for about 3-4 years. Can this be deleted from my credit report? Do you know of any law agencies that do that? Has anyone done it before?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nell,

I had similar negative item in my credite file. I forgot to pay one bill ($40) and moved my residence. It was reported to collection agency which I was not aware of. In last March, I accessed my credit file through a car dealer who informed me of this negative term. My FICO score was down to 630. I immediately paid that amount, and also paid some balance. By the end of May my FICO score increased to above 700. However, the collection items will remain in my file for several years.

nell,
You can not delete records from credit report. It stays there for the period of time depending upon the report. As for collection account.... where the collection accounts are listed it mentions there if its been paid or unpaid. If you have paid your collection account it will not have any more negative effect on your credit. Yes it will stay there for about my guess roughly 7 years (not exactly sure)

And about your 60 days late payment it will also stay there I have seen late payments showing on credit reports of from 94s . The best way to eastablish your credit now is If you have credit cards minimize the balance now don;t have 0 balance for ever , its called playing with money use your credit card frequently and pay off the balance on every billing cycle.... spend as much as u can pay off.... if you have too many credit cards close couple of accounts or have their balances on 0 and just use 2/3 credit cards and pay it off on every billing cycles.

If you do not have any credit card. try for secured credit card. Its like you have to give them deposit and they will issue you the credit card for same amount of money.....

Your utilites bill does not really contribute a whole lot towards your credit history Yes if you do not pay them it will be reported to collection agencies and have negative accounts.
Before they report anything to your collection agency all the major credit card companies. phone providers, medicals have their own so called grace period .You have approx 30 days to pay any balances before it goes to collection agency and this 30 day starts from the day you receive a letter from attorney or lawyer mentioning if you do not pay the balance it will be reported to collection agency and you can disupte that on court of law.

Phew! feels like financial counselor :D hope this helps

Hi Shaq,

In my case I never got any letter mentioning that they would forward the case to collection agency. I found the collection only after I accessed my credit history. I paid the balance to original company - not the collection agency. My mails were being forwarded. Even after I paid that amount, I received statements from the same company. I didn't ask them to show me the letter, however, I doubt there were any. What can I do?

Harris,
If you have already paid get the statement or a letter from the compay that the balance has been paid in full. Get your credit report throught experian, transunion or equifax , these are the only 3 major credit bureaus . If it shows that the collection is paid then you are good to go, If your credit report shows that you have collection unpaid then contact one of the above agencies and forward them the letter or statement you have received mentioning the account has been paid in full.

2 things you got to do is get the statement from the company that you have paid the balance and make sure it shows as paid collection your credit report.

Always check your credit atleast once a year ,beacause there might be wrong information on credit reports.
Things to check when you are looking at your credit reports

your SSN, name in full, adresses (previous and present) accounts and if they reflect actual balances and most the score.

Different financial institution has their own evaluation of scores but the most general one is :
720+ Tier 1 +

690-719 Tier 1

660-689 Tier 2

620-659 Tier 3

now for tier 4 some take 619 and below as all tier4 some evaluate as
580-619 tier 4

you can sign up on - www.creditexpert.com . they charge you $69 per year. you can cancel any time if you want. the best part is your $69 will be debited from your account only after one year. this not only helps you to track your credit record but also helps to improve your credit rating. they send you email every time if there have been some changes in your credit record.
