Daddy's Girl
When you were young, pony-tailed,
face full of playful freckles,
were you a daddy's girl?
I was. I still am.
Did you look to him for your security,
for love and attention,
for the understanding, and the patience you lacked
as a child?
My daddy was the center of my small world,
the focus of my affections,
the star that lit my life, shining bright.
Shining still in my heart.
The years have led me here,
weathered with maturity and responsibilities,
and I see more clearly now.
The hardships, burdens of love,
and all the small sacrifices he made for me,
for our family.
He created stability, a place to call home.
All the photographs I browse through
of a child long forgotten, scarcely remembered
smiling, so happy and so loved.
The mere thought of becoming that role model
is enough to send me cowering, afraid...
looking for guidance.
Turning to my father and my more for support,
advice, wise counsel, and for approval.
Grown up, I see differently now...
A new perspective of a man I have always known.
My heart is full, my emotions overpowering
just in the certainty of that bond.
He's been there for me through all the conflicts
helping me over the rough, ragged stones
of growing up.
My respect for him is unending,
faith is unbound, and love is unquestioning.
Even in the midst of all my imperfections, he is lenient,
ignoring the pitfalls, the downfalls, the shortcomings,
he just accepted me as I was, as I am.
The sheer purity of it leaves me awe-struck
and it lifts me up, it holds my head a little higher,
it keeps me in balance,
harmonizing with the world around me
beautifully, like an inspired masterpiece from the soul
of an honest man.
I am honored to know him, to love him, to be of him.
He's my hero, and I am his daughter, his little girl.

-Poem by Christine McNamara

Finally one single thread that is anti politics..what a break...

We're honored to be born into nepali families, where ours dads instinctively took hold of the wheel while moms captains the whole boat..what the next generations hold is unknown..we've been lucky to be born into families where at least our dads priviledged to inherit at least a veggie garden..which grew enough to sustain us through our schools and into college..and that was it and specially for us lovely daughters that is it until our parents sum up the mana pathi before we tie the knot..and then the rest of our life is bestowed upon how pampering our hubbies would be..

Looking at the economic and political climate of Nepal and thus of the world, I know if men actually want to be the responsible father our dads were. Poured into our innocent lives are MTV cribs, the flashy blings and demands so unreasonable that even me, a self proclaimed buddhist is not ready to date a charlie if i know that my pretty shoes cost more than what he could afford to spend in a date..and then its obvious that divorces are rising way high suddenly the pretty innocent wives are expected to pull in as much money as the groom and then fix the best tasting dinner on the table. My mom did that, nevermind the fact that she never had to, but to teach us girls a lesson that independence to buy our own pairs of shoes is much better than having start another mahabharat so we can explain why we have so many silly cravings that we do besides the necessity....

Beg borrow or steal even princess Himani knows she has to get that pair of earrings from Cartier to dialect with other princesses from other countries..and she has about rs 500,000 spending money from the govt. per year, and then the earrings worth $5000000..now the irresponsible Paras has to get three exactly similar pairs for his cute duaghters, and that becomes a national debt or perhaps an unforgiven world debt..

then there are children fathered by irresponsibles more in the orphanage, and some more out of sheer curiousity....but here again there are some moms like angelina jolin who decide to foster a kid and then there's Tom cruise who'se inability to bear children has cost him one pretty bride and another pretty Penelope, among others..why can't men own up some of their responsibilties and of their collegaues at large??Better yet they Expect nuns at Mother Teresa Convent to take charge of the slum-fortuned orphans..

We're so priviledged to nepali fathers, who loved us as much as constrained us into beliveing in ourselves not to rely on puff daddy's out there.. Leverage of us prodigal daughters started the day when we were born and until we bloomed..just when we need them the most daddy's see it unreasonable to pursue a course in mountaineering or astronaumy while they should and of course us being human we splurge a li'l in 'making ourselves happy..why couldn't Hillary Clinton, a better politician than Bill just got sponsored by democrats, cause a antaional mum is no good???Or Sonia Gandhi who martyred herself not taking the reigns of her nation??

After all the men and the boys have been killed in the civil war in Nepal..Baburam finnalyy took time to recruit women in low level positions..and then RNA followed suit hiring a couple. of women...that means women and children at large are still safer than men in the world..which is good and which is bad..for it all comes down to our fathers, reponsible or irresponsible to take charge and then to perish in combats ( god Forbid) for no senseless reason..and women who always expect the food to be on the table suddenly shudder to see and kids born into those families assume that when they become the ultimate fathers they don't have any responsibility than to run after ethics that the whole world condemns..

I am so lucky to have been born into my family, would have been luckier if i was born in 17th century or so..for then all my duties at home would be to sit pretty and powder my nose and to discuss bachelor men over tea with aunts and maids..tsk tsk..now its upto me to be my own aunt, my maid, myself, my man and maybe in the future MY own Father of my kids...its overwhelming...

So for this Father's day..i"m gonna make goodwishes not only to my High Almighty but to all the courageous women out there taking charge of their life...Happy Father's Day!!!!

Hare shiva, Hush, father's day ma pani mothers day ko kura gareko? : ) Just kidding. Great stuff. You are very talented writer. I have on occasion wondered about some of the things you mention - my role in life and the different roles I have to play for myself because, for whatever reasons, there aren't others to play those roles for me.

Oh well, before I go on rambling forever, let me stop myself and wish everyone a happy fathers day and a great Sunday.

To good life.

TO my Dad:
I have been blessed to have the best of the family the world has to offer. My mom is the GREATEST and god decided it was not enough and S/HE gave me and my siblings the GREATEST dad as well.

For all the love, support, encouragement, and always always awaysss being there for us (me and my siblings) irrespective of the circumstances, I just want to tell you, I love you :). If I could be half a dad as you are; I would still be the second greatest dad in this world. Happy Father's day. :)

With Love , Respect and Admiration;
You son.:)

After that sentimental monologue ( ahh.. ekchin seee garchu ;))

Ok fine. Now, Aru ta ke bhanne, Badarni ko poem bhanthanera jhandai malai pani tyastai chori deu bhanna lako bhagwaan sanga. Anyways, I want my daughter to have the same feelings for me :p, albeit, no offence to thee; I want her to be a human ;).

And regarding the Hillary being a better politician than Bill; all i got to say is, that's pretty far fetched. The power and influence of Bill Clinton is such that, his wife, irrespective of her capabilities which would been passed by as another flash in the pan; is actually considered as a legitimate candidate. With due respect to her competence, but for my money, bar Regan ( to some extent), there have not been a president in US who have been as influential or charismatic as Clinton. after all, who else could have sat on the hotbed laced with fire and still maintain his job, approval rating and in fact is by and large considered the most influential leader in America even now.

Alik napachera lekheko. Tyai ho.

--------------> FOR YOU.

I reserve the right to crown mine as the BEST. Oh I forgot perhaps ur supposed to call my dad ur father-in-law ho? ;)
Ahh... Jives apart, really a gloomy day and my spirit is low. :(

Read: .........With due respect to her competence, but for my money, bar Regan ( to some extent), there have not been a president in US who have been as influential or charismatic as Clinton" in past several decades". After all, who else could have sat on the hotbed laced with fire and still maintain his job, approval rating and in fact is by and large considered the most influential leader in America even now and by and large commands a greater audience and influence in the world even without official power per se.

P.S:
Also if we juxtapose her impressive credentials, including Bill as her better half, the fact that he has clinton attached with him, like it or not, shall be a telling factor; more or less. So what my point is: the notion that terms Hilary as a better politician than Bill is premature and thus effectively flawed, and can only be entertained as hypothetical purposes. But can she be better than Bill in future? Let's wait and watch. Now back to the "Father's day" again. :)

My previous arguments, in cluding this, are in response to this statement ---> "why couldn't Hillary Clinton, a better politician than Bill just got sponsored by democrats, cause a antaional mum is no good???"
