have a masters degree in Control Engineering from one of the reputed universities in Australia.I also have a B.E in Electrical and Electronics. Due to lack of experience in control engineering, I could not find a job in USA even if I am Permanent resident of US So,I have decided to join MS in EE.How do I enter into job market with no experience at all?Currently I am teaching on a Part time basis.
Could any boby suggest me which field of specialization should I take among VLSI, Communication, Control and Computer engineering?.A friend of mine also suggest me to join MBA instead of doing another master level course. What are the chances of getting a job if I pass EIT or even PE?.

I really appreciate your kind cooperation.

Hey Libra,
I also recently graduated in EE in the US specializing in VLSI and Communicatons. But I haven't been able to find a job as yet also. The only job offers that I've been getting is in Software as I have some background in software also. If I find 100 job in comuputer programming, I only find 5 jobs in VLSI and 1 job in communications. So instead of concentrating on one thing, try to diversify yourself. Enroll in Computer Science and take one or two classes in VLSI or VHDL. Or else enroll in EE and take some computer sci classes like Comp Arch, VHDL, or Embedded Systems programming. That should diversify you a lot and you'll have a better chance of finding a job. I don't know what you will need to do in order to do MBA. Maybe you'll have to take too many deficiencies. I hope this helps.

Have you tried going to a university's engineering job fair in your area? You could go to the job fair, drop off your resume to bunch of companies at the same time. Its a good way to get to talk to lot of companies in one room and find out what they are looking for. They are usually there recruiting people from that university, but hey, just tell them your situation, and the least they can do is carry your resume back to their HR department.

If you want to go into graduate school for EE, you have to ask yourself what field you want to specialize in. Computer jobs are the most prevalant technical jobs out there, from IT to computer engineering/science. So if the economy goes up and down like a roller coaster, its usually the computer people that get fired first. However, if you're real good at what you do, then no worries.

But don't go into graduate school (MBA/MS) thinking you'll have a better chance of finding a job - thats never a guarantee.

You take EIT first, then work and gain experience for 5 years (I believe), and then take the PE. As far as I know, PE just allows you to acquire the higher rank of engineer - most companies won't allow you to become Chief/Principal engineer without PE. But for your case, you can't get PE until you take EIT and have been working for 5 or whatever long years.

So in summary, my two cents is to find out when a local university is having an engineering job fair, and go to that.
