1. Do you national Boards Part I
2. Depending upon the score. apply to schools that offer IS programs. Some schools demand both of the parts.
3. Do two-three years of schooling
(cost around 50k for tuition and rest for living and instruments books_ total may go as high as 97K/year)
4. Take national Dental Board Part II
5. Pass Regional Boards
6. Go do the practice.

Alternatively,

Be a faculty
enjoy the free tuition and get a DMD or DDS with minimum requirements.

Check NYU, I heard there are lots of nepalese students there.

I guess I did not read the posting properly...

So the question is based on; one already has a DMD or DDS from the accredated school..

Thx for the reply shirish ji,

yes, one already has a DDS degree from an accredited university, he/she wants to get the license to practise in the US, I am aware that one needs to give DAT,however I heard that there are some other requirements for intl. graduates. So if anyone has gone through the process, I would have a better idea.

Thx again,

Jyotsna

DAT
Do you mean Dental Admission Test.

You are not being clear...people take DAT to go to the Dental School after they pass their BS or BA what ever..but you said the person already has DDS from a accredated university/school means go apply to the Licensing Board that every state has...

I dont see any problem.

yo DAT DDS ta thaha chaina. But if one thinks that one has been losing some tooth enamel because of eating too much acidic stuff (like chocolate, ice cream, tea, coffee), what should he/she do? Does floride toothpaste help rebuild the enamel, or should one see a dentist? Just curious.

Wearing of enamel is physiological, that naturally happens with time. However there are some other causes of loss of enamel, could be attributed to diet (nepalese tend to chew bone and eat hard stuff like durukho, supari, chiura what not), parafunctional habits like grinding, aggresive toothbrushing etc.

Zalim singh you better go see a dentist !

Fluoride does help in remineralization along with the physiologically saturated calcium and phosphate to some extent and rebuilding of enamel is not yet scientifically feasible in the patient level.

One of my freind had asked me to inquire about procedures to practise in the US. She has recently completed her dental degree from India, and is wanting to practise here at US. I beleive there should be some provision for foreign national graduates to obtain license to practise dentistry in the US like in medical field where one has to give USMLE.
enlighten me

Well Jyotsna

Accredated university means "accredated in the US" not in India.

You cant practise dentistry like medicine in US, one has to go through the above procedure that I mentioned in my first posting.

(S)he has to attend two or three years of undergraduate study again as International Student after passing NDB Part I and /or part II

Say in Boston, Boston University asks for clearance of NDB part I with at least 85% where as Tufts asks for at least 90% in part I and 85% in part II. That means Tufts is tougher to get in.

However there are universities that accept 80% and above and are highly competitive.

Ist contact the Americal Dental Association in chicago for the approval and eligibilty.

So for him to get into Dental School here, ask to take the National Dental Board Part I which can be taken year round.

For Dental students its not as easy as getting residency for MBBS students.
