Perhaps we exaggerate what's happening in Nepal.
Perhaps we don't.

I do NOT know.

What I do know is this: When compared to those of OTHER COUNTRIES around the world, our problems are NOT exactly unique.

Still, I am, in general, struck by the lack of verifiably true statistics when people talk about the allegedly khattam state of Nepal these days.

Sure, we all have opinions, even prejudices and ideollogies, but rarely do most of us back up our various claims with verifiably true numbers in the public domain.

Perhaps that will all change -- with one change after another.
I do not know.

Meantime, here's a a Failed State Index that ranks Nepal better (and that's comparatively positive!) than other failed states in South Asia

(ahead of, say,

Bangladesh at 17,
Bhutan at 26 and
Pakistan at 34).

Two areas of great concerns for Nepal?

1) Demographic pressures, and
2) Uneven dxevelopment.

Yes, almost 82 per cent of the population is 40 or under in terms of age -- and that's a fact that most politicians and neo-politicians do NOT seem to understand.

Enjoy,

neo-politicians should include the KING.

The only young candidate in the Kings ministry is Nikshay. Look at Tulsi Giri and Kritinidha Bista and the rest of the gang, they are dead ghosts of Panchayat.

Maoists probably are the youngest bunch.

Dhoti,

Don't try to act oversmart, we know India is better in terms of democracy than Nepal at the moment. But we nepalese still have a ray of hope that things will eventually turn out good for Nepal in the near future.

The "economy" of Nepal and other states differes greatly in this dimension- the size of functional units.

in Nepal, almost every household, and therefore almost every person, has his own of economic "eco-system" unlike many other countries where it takes a whole society to have that. My point is in South Asia, as opposed to other western societies, every household has the means of generating gaas, baas and kapaas. Every family has some farm and "khet", a little store or "pasal" and things like that even in high-profile business families. I recall a friend of mine who had a house in Kathmandu was asked whether he had any "khet jagga" by his would-be father-in-law. So, in Nepal, in overall, almost every household is a nearly-complete economic system in itself. My family in a remote district from Kathmandu would not be affected at all even if rest of the world were destroyed by alien invasion, we there had nothing to do with the economics of Nepal or Kathmandu or my zone or district or whtever; we were independent as a micro ecosystem, economically. In the western world, this is not the case, many ppl are dependent on jobs which dont produce food, clothes or whatever directly for their family consumption.

That is why, all these figures and indices do not make a great sense in context of Nepal and such indicators need to be re-examined in context of societies like those in South Asia that are conglomerations of independent economic micro eco-systems .

And this is indeed a good thing, we are also for a similar but a more privileged world. And we have deduced that a single plant, just one plant species, the POT, is capable of solving almost all of the problems the poorer world is facing. More disquisition on this rational revolution, visit

Maybe I was not quite clear above. Its my personal speculation, but let me further it.

In an analogy to the physical sciences, the properties of an atom differ from that of a molecule and sometimes the properties of a molecule proper also differ from the crystal.for example, for just one substance made of same molecules, the crystalline structure makes a huge differece like ice and snow. Therefore, these models of such and such indices made for the western way of societies MAY NOT hold proper in the inherent "crystalline" structure of our societies. The sum of parts NOT ALWAYS equals just the whole, sometimes it is more than the whole.

However, we still have other means to solve most of the world's problems in such an easy way that involves just passing laws. More at

Dhoti, what the hell are you doing in a Nepali forum? If you are not a REAL dhoti, why the hell do you have that name? Correct your name first and post your comments.

Why this PHOBIA against becoming a failed state??

Lets become a failed state. Every state has become failed in itshistory before becoming successful. So why we are afraid of becoming failed?

If you think deeply, it is KG who is going to fail, KG's failure is not the same as the failure of Nepali Nation.

If Nepali nation wants to succeed, KG and his gang has to fail. Lets fail, lets start from zero, but without KG and his Gang and his feudal thugs....the so called Bhardars.

So lets become failed state as soon as possible. And then start a new life.......

Yes, it is alarming!!!! (as usual) and I would not be surprised if the next year's index puts Nepal on wors statet. There is no economic activity whatsoever. Also, the statistics about nepal might just be extra-polated from last year (we all know the reason). As a nepali, I would be really surprised if the sampled data covers a wider range (geographically).
