I know most of the ppl here in sajha are like to watch Indian movies so do i. Also like to talk about and worried about our country's recent conditions. That's why I am highly recomend you to rent this movie called "SWADES" Palyed by Sharukh Khan. And watch it and learn from it if you really worried about your country and to see your country could rest in peace and also we all nepali could have peace too. This movie is one of the example of to show our love to our motherland and to do something for your cournty's sake, if you really love and if you do miss your country. Lets learn something from this movie and think about what we can to do for our contry to make it better. Have fun watching it and also don't forget to feel and learn whatever meassage is they are trying to give this from this flim.

"Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" (2005). A must watch movie for discerning viewers. It is a finest movie about time (that has resembling elements of Nepal's contemporary history), rush of youth, relationship and, most cherishable of all, the poignancy of love.

The climax of the story is so graphic and shocking (if you have not been desensitized by the chilling stories of the abuses by our royal security forces and Maoist comrades yet !), you might want to fast forward it, however it is also a defining moment of the movie and does a perfect justice to the title that comes from one of Mirza Ghalib's most profound sher,

Yeah, of course. eh.

I have become fan of Mr. Sudhir Mishra (the director of the movie "Hazaron Khwaishyen Aisi...") since the day I watched his "Ish Raat Ki Subhah Nahi" -- A movie about a guy, torn between his lover and his wife, who unknowingly slaps a head of the ganster and welcomes one miserable, never-ending night of mayhem in the heart of Bombay. I've never really followed his other movies like "Chameli" ( I still can't stand Kareena Kapoor) and "Calcutta Mail". I was excited about "Hazaron... " since the movie was political, set in the "Emergency Period" -- one of the darkest chapters in the Indian history which I was somewhat familiar with, vaguely, and also the lead protagonist K.K. who I really admired in his first movie called "Bhopal Express".

After bunch of requests to the movie-store, I finally got the copy of the movie and it's funny but the job of the direcctor was the only thing I was excited about the movie (I didn't know about the storyline except it was set on the India of 70's) and was the only thing I hated in the movie. The screenplay of the movie was so intact and tailor made that even the third assistant of the director could have done better job. The movie falls flat when it comes to the background music, the transitions of the scenes (Sometimes there are scenes which looks pretty irrelevant), the silence that could have been really affective, the costumes. I somewhat felt like the director was too much influenced by the French Art movies. ha. The screenplay developes in such a way that there are times when the body language of protagonist moves the story, each glance, each expression on the face of actors that counts and the director simply fails to capture it despite an amazing job by three main characters in the movie.

The performances are amazing, they are the reason the movie is worth watching beside its awesome story. The movie is a triangular love story between two guys and a girl. K.K., a son of wealthy and an important personality in the society, smokes pot, supports communism and dreams about changing the face of corrupted India while lying on the lap of his girlfriend. The other guy, I don't know his name, is a son of a freedom fighter and he doesn't really give a damn about politics, but still has his own political connections and contacts that he uses to fulfill his dream to become rich. The girl (She looks like Smita Patil) eh... she lives in a family where noone asks where when she spent her night. Thes protagonists are very selfish. They use others or just get used by others. It's just a matter of time where they show their selfishness in the movie... and selfishness is just one part of the many sides of the story. The shocking ending, one of the ways you can interpret, is about ultimate selfishness... Well, it's just an another side of the story...

And I feel like what the fkkkkkkkkkk I am doing, I am writing a whole page in sajha, what the hell is wrong with me? damn, aight, thats it, yeah watch this movie, hmmm... Bunty and Babli sux, damn, Amitabh saved the day... 40 years virgin was funny, esp. that condom scene. eh...

Where am I?

Helppppp, there is this thoti who won't let me type anymore... grrrrrrrrr.... ha.. :O

Good to see a generous review of "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" by movie critic of the house, Kalankistan.

As always, he keeps a sharp eye on all aspects of movie making when he reviews the movie.

I do agree with Kalanki's observation that the movie has a loose screenplay. Screenplay writer, if it was not the director himself, must be too green. If it was adapted from a pre-written story, the screenplay writer must learn what 'adaptation' means.

I also agree that the scene transitions were not smooth. Too much flip-flop. Flip-flops are good to emphasize the parallelism of two parallel events, which was mostly not the case in the movie.

I like the minimalist and intelligent dialogs in the movie. I would recommend the movie for serious viewers for this reason alone.

Creatively minimalist and intelligent dialogs are something you shouldn't expect to find in the mainstream Indian movies.

In the mainstream Indian movies, they put dialogs as if the movie is for blind audiences. And they use body language to the extent that makes the movie most appropriate for hearing-impaired viewers. And on top of all that, they add background score as if they are making a silent movie. All this makes them terribly silly and vulgar. I hardly can stand mainstream Hindi movies for this reason alone.

For this reason, to watch HKA was a refreshing experience to me.

Kalanki did not have a good opinion about background score of the movie. However, to me, the background score, particularly the scheme of spreading the theme score was one of the best things about the movie. Probably this is a matter of taste.

I also have a slightly different opinion about what Kalanki termed 'selfish characters' and 'love triangle'.

The main three characters are not "idealized" to be selfish or unselfish. They are presented neutrally. They are on their own. That's another best thing about the movie.

And to have a triangle, one should fall in love with two persons at the same time, which I don't see as the case in the story.

Our 'heroine' is in POORLY UNDEFINED love (and I think this is the biggest weakness of the movie !) with the revolutionary 'hero'. The 'side hero' is merely a friend to her which is very well and believably presented. The 'side hero' is PASSIONATELY (but not idealized !) in love with the 'heroine', and, I think, this is the soul of the movie.

The side hero's unidealized (very important !) yet unconditional passion for the 'heroine' is what moved me the most and also what I think moved the story providing a softer stream to otherwise hard political story.

I said the unidealization was important. Forget about idealization, even a slight judgmental note on the side hero's passion for the heroine would have brought the movie to the level of silly mainstream movies.

The side hero's PASSION was rewarded by the heroine's COMPASSION, but that was at the end of the story, that is, at twilight of their lives covered by the story.

I am using the term PASSION instead of LOVE to describe side hero's feeling to the heroine, in order to do justice to the theory that passion is one of the components of love.

In Bollywood, love is presented as an amorphous substance (they do not make distinction between passion, intimacy and commitment which actually are components of LOVE, at least, according to the triangular theory of love). So this kind of fine line between passion and love is not possible to draw in Bollywood movies. I said FINE LINE. In all fairness, Bollywood does make distinctions between passion and love when it wants. But when they do, the line is so THICK (instead of FINE) that it looks vulgar and coarse.

HKA, in my best judgement, is free of these Bollywood dogmas and is, therefore, a finest movie for serious viewers to watch.
