One question to Sirish, since you have been doing most of the postings in thh thread about Gagan. How do you kow so much information about Gagan thapa? how can you say that he was invited by US government and not that he applied to attend some programs himself?

I also read his interview in wave magazine. When asked about maoists, he has dodged the question raising doubt that he is sympathetic to maoist. How come a person with so much gut, one who can oppose monarchy, can never ever speak a word against maoists? He has not even condemned any of maoist atrocities. Because the answer is simple. If you oppose the king, all they will do is put you in prison for two days and they have to release you due to pressure from human rights group. But if you oppose the maoists, it is not that safe. Maybe he is not showing that much courage after all.

Could you clarify the above two issues for me and for other sajha readers?

Maybe U don't know what raja's people can do these days...They can just make people dissapear ..Just like that, and you won't even find them anywhere...They can kill people as old as 15 year old and just get 6 month term...and even their POST remain the same....Well thats just few things they can do...and if standing in front of them isn't guts to you, then MAYBE you don't know WHAT GUTS MEANS???
Talking about Gagan talking about Maoists, I have seen many places he condemns the killings and kidnapping done by maoist....And just by reading a teeny weeny magazine like WAVE...and making your opinion...Or just seeing He has been crying out loud for the Constitutional referendum or Republic, you are thinking he is sympathetic towards Maoist...THEN you should rethink the issue...
Isn' t constitutional Monarchy means We the people will have Choice to make our constitution ourselves.....
And Republic means, Our hard earned money paid as taxes won't go to fulfill a culprit's dream machines...

Nirman, I agree with you. RNA have been responsible for killing people just like Maoists, but that is not what I am talking about.

Opposing the King from the capital is quite easy. Everyone is doing it. Real leaders should oppose or atleast condemn the Maoists atrocities too, dont you think? He has never ever said anything about the maoists. Dont you think it is a bit strange ? That is my only concern.

Ans: After 1990, we did not interfere in schools. We were active only in colleges and as a union, concentrated on winning over people through elections. The Maoist Student Union was a minority. But I admit we should have done more to educate the people about democracy.

I have not supported Gagan as far as I am concerned.I have only supported the cause of freedom and dignity.So you cannot blame me on that.And to this point Gagan seems to endorse those values.I am against hero-worship culture which seem to have played role in this matter.Ideals and one's level of commitment for those ideals matter to me.I read wave's interview.And even asked gagan last week who took that int. and he said it was someone named abha(just a personal note :).He seemed nice and warm in person.He understands Nepal esp. outside KTM but is naive about the world affairs esp. the american arrogance which was sad to see.
Since he was aware of outside valley he seem to be working on directing the maoists cause towards the mainstream politics like caste system and decentralization and for that matter he is quite about maoists at this point.As far as monarchy is concerned he seem to be on the side of majority at this point as monarchy has lost its credibility after feb 1 move.

It would be redundant to post those again here, but my two issues were about being invited by US government and why would he dodge question about Maoists. The question about maoist is very important because he has built his image as a firebrand leader. How come he can afford to dodge questions about maoists? May be sirish, who has lots of information, will answer it tomorrow. Anyway, thanks.

If dodging the questions related to Maoists atrocities means he is their sympathizer then according to US terrorists list, he would be a terrorist sympathizer. So US invitation would mean completely ironic.

Well, probably Gagan was invited by that Carter's foundation or something which solved Sudan problem up to some extent.

Are you guys aware that these days nepali politicians of King side, protesting parties as well as Maoists are all invited by Carter's foundation to negotiate the Nepal problem. My guess is, they need to also include student leaders too in this negotiations. So here comes Gagan!!

But Gagan is not a leader according to himself. Which is a suspicious claim to me.
