Hello,

I have H1-B approved and I am planning to go to Nepal this december. I am going for just for two weeks. So, I was wondering what's the queque time in the US Consulate in Kathmandu. Is there a way to find it out?

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

If you are going just for 2 weeks, you are cutting it really close. Fill out the necessary application form and drop off your passport at the U.S. embassy as soon as you Kathmandu. For more accurate information, e-mail the U.S. embassy in Nepal from the U.S. They will get back to you in about 24 hrs. The consulate e-mail address is in the embassy website. Just google it.

Good Luck!

One of my friends went to nepal for a short time also.
His parents in Nepal were told that it takes at least 2 weeks to schedule an interview.
So he downloaded the form, filled it out, signed it, attached a photo and mailed it to his parents along with copies of his H1 papers, passport and I-20. His parents then set up the appointment for him. That way when he got there, he already had this appointment set up.

And another major things, do not forget to go to "Shram Karyalaya", department of labor, once you get your H1B visa to get an approval stamp. They will not allow you to leave Kathmandu if you do not have it. I know it sounds crazy that you need a permisson from Nepal to work in US, but hey it is Nepal, and things are crazy and unreasonable there.

Wow ..that's something new Hurray... But I am planning 4 next year. So I will think about it later. But this thread is really useful. I have seen Indian guys going Mexico or Canada to get the stamp. I think that won't be good idea for Nepalese.

I agree with texan. I went 2 attend 1 H1B seminar last month. If we go to other countries (canada, mexico or any other), and H1B is denied, we can't enter US again. We've to go back to Nepal eventually. The lawyer talked about his client's pain when he was denied H1B visa in Canada, and he couldn't get any direct flight to his country from there. He had to travel half way world across to get back to his country, and apply application process again. So, they strongly recommend to apply H1B visa from own country.

Typical wait time for the interview after turning in all application material is just SEVEN days (According to the latest update as of Nov 15, 2005) for all kinds of visas which should be sufficient for all.

Check this out:

Thanks a lot to all of you guys for your invaluable suggestions.

Hey Dudes,

I need to download the US visa application for H1-B. My roommate is leaving tomorrow and I am planning to send all the documents with him but i could not find the application forms in the US Embassy website. Do you guys have any idea, where I can find it?

Thanks in advance,

The forms are called DS156, and DS157(not exactly sure about this one). Just google around and you will find them. OR go to the american embassy site in Nepal and check for the non-immigration visa application forms.

Good Luck.
