Users of LimeWire, a file sharing program used by millions of Americans, might be making their private financial and personal information vulnerable.

A major security flaw with LimeWire makes it easy to search the hard drive of anyone who is also using the program while sending files back and forth.

I dont use Lime Wire as mentioned, but my computer's Norton Anti Virus got disabled itself sometime last Tuesday. Attempts to enable it by clicking the 'enable' button did not work. Its still disabled. Since then all financial related websites that I used to frequent did not work as well.

Not sure if it is the proper place to post, but guys what might my problem be based on the info provided above? Feel free to post or email me privately. Thanks.

Remove and re-install Norton. This will fix your problem.

okay, if you have a virus, then as long as the virus is in your pc, reinstalling or scanning won't do shit! you might have to literally remove it while its process is not running. Most viruses attach themselves into Registry and run with the windows process, and if you try to delete them manually, since your anti-virus won't find it, or is disabled, you will get an error from windows saying this file is currently in use. Try to run the scan thru norton, if it doesn't, then try running scan thru this site
- http://housecall.trendmicro.com/start_corp.asp
then select your country, click GO and download a tiny program and scan!

remember most viruses block these sites, it might not load up for you. if it doesn't, let me know ill tell you the other way around to get the virus.

if it works, then goodluck! scan and delete!

nipplemonkey,
scaned using the housecall. result showed no virus! but my problem still is intact. when i restarted, the norton antivirus icon appeared on the bottom icon bar. then a message came stating that window is unable to load the virus program and asked to restart. clicking either ok, cancel or closing window lead to 'disabling' of the norton antivirus (as indicated by appearance of X over the icon).

this is really weird. i am sure there are computure gurus with some cool ideas to beat this problem i am facing.

off point, why did you nickname yourself as nipplemonkey? ;)

I think this would be a good place to post my problem too...

Hey, I had a problem with my Windows XP professional. XP was running very very very slow, CTRL+ALT+DEL stopped working...nothing happened when I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL. And all the programs were real slow. So I decided to format the drive. Before formatting I tried copying some of my music files frm hard drive to my external HD....but some files wont copy. said some file ending error or smthin like that. So I tried formatting the drive, but it took me forever to format it....it actually took the machine 2 whole days and nights to format it....tried installing XP on it....gave errors while installing some files...but finally it did...but wont load....gives a checksum error....I thought maybe my harddrive is bad...so I boot the computer through a DSL (Damn Small Linux) boot CD.....and tried accessing the hard-drive....I can see the windows files and everything on the hard disk....but when I try to delete them, it says read only drive.

So, what do you guys think??? is it the hard-drive?? or is it smthing else??
The reason Im asking this is this is my second hard drive in 3 months that did the same thing. I had XP running an IIS on it....the first one that I had, gave problem since i activated the IIS....so was thinking could it be the IIS server??? but I have a linux server hooked to the same router that has some websites hosted on it....never had any problems with that!!!( incase if you think its some hackers)..!!!

Lemme know what you think???

Thanks
