Doctors fight over chair, patients run for cover: Report
Patients, who had gone for treatment at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Narayani sub-regional hospital, at Birgunj and their relatives had to run for their own safety after two medical officers resorted to fist-fighting over chair in front of patients, a leading daily reported.
According to Nepal Samacharpatra daily, Dr. Raghabendra Thakur and Dr. Kush Raj Giri were checking patients at the medical department of the hospital since 9:45 a. m. on Wednesday. Another medical officer, Dr. Akhilesh Singh, arrived for duty at 10:15 a. m. and turned furious when he saw that Dr. Giri was checking patients occupying his chair.
Dr. Singh not only verbally abused Dr. Giri but also manhandled him resulting into fist-fighting between the two doctors. Patients, who were awaiting their turn for check-up, had no option but to run away.
Dr. Giri alleged that Dr. Singh, who arrived late on duty, even tried to bite him on the chest. ?I have received only minor injuries as I was wearing thick clothes for winter season,? he added.
Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Murali Prasad Singh, said he has constituted a three-member committee led by Dr. B. K. Jha to probe into the incident.
The committee is expected to submit its report on Thursday, the news report said.
