Nepathya’s 'Ghatana' formally released

The much-awaited album by Nepathya was formally released at a function organized in Kathmandu today.

Amrit Gurung, the frontman of Nepathya said, “All songs in this album were written and composed during 2003 – 05. This album is our effort to document the situation of our country during this time. Our songs may resonate the painful aspect of present Nepal, but this is the reality a general Nepali lives with.”

Having travelled across Nepal in the most intense time of violence and conflict, Amrit has seen and faced all aspect of current Nepal.

Kiran Shrestha, of nepa~laya, the producer of 'Ghatana' said, "The content of this (album) is a documentation of a very sad coincidence for the country and we hope that we would not have to produce albums of similar nature again.” He further said, “Irrespective of how unfortunate it may be, it becomes an artist’s responsibility to document the present for historic reference. I am glad Nepathya has taken a step ahead in fulfilling this artistic duty.”

The title track of the album is a detailed account of a bus incident (Ghatana) of Mainapokhari, where 14 people including 6 civilians had died when the bus was caught in the cross firing of the Maoists and the Army. The song has been performed with a tint of Gandharva flavoured folk and been packaged into a 25 minute long rock ballad.

Nepathya will be presenting the almost 25-minute title song 'Ghatana', for the first time to public in Nepal, at the Shanti Mandala, Maitighar on Friday evening. People have been gathering at the Mandala on the first day of every Nepali month to light candles in memory of the victims of the ongoing conflict in Nepal.
