I came to read an article about nepali students killed in an accident in US at Nepalnews.com

Areyoung Nepali students safe in the US?

However, it made me sad as it tried to show as if all the faults were due to only nepali students. I considered this as inferiority complex. I tried to write an article, but it didn't come out good. I'm poor in writing.

So, I would like to ask for help to send following article with edit to papers (write your name as author, I care more about the content) or any other stuff to let people know that faults might not be only due to nepali students, and nepali students are not that much undisciplined in US, and don't dare to break the rules that often.

Inferiority complex

Seven young students from Nepal were killed in less than a week in United States. Four Nepali students, Amrit Dhital, 21; Prahlad Gurung, 22; Pukar Acharya, 21; and Subash Gurung, 20 were killed in a car accident in Texas while driving from Houston to Dallas on January 6. Three Nepali students, Utsav Basnet, 19, Bedija Kharel, 20, and Nishma Timilsina, 21, were killed in a similar car accident on southern Minnesota highway on January 4. On December 20, 2005, one young Nepali student, Shekhar Regmi, 20, was also shot dead at Arlington, Texas while working at a gas station at night. The New Year brought very sad news for Nepali students in the US.

The news started to appear in Nepali prints after about 24-48 hours of the incident. Now, the articles are also starting to appear with concern about safety of Nepali students in US. This is indeed a positive part. However, it makes me sad as it attempts to give the false impression as if both of these accidents happen because of fault of Nepali students. I would like to consider this as inferiority complex prevalent among us.

I don’t discard the fact about faults or negligence of those killed Nepali students as it might be a case. Accidents happen through various reasons. More than one factor is often responsible for accidents. The Nepalese media highlighted more about the faults of Nepali students, and completely ignored the possibility of other reasons. I see this more as an inferiority complex.

In an accident in southern Minnesota, Nepali students were not driving a car, and a driver of that car is still alive. Their only fault is not to buckle their belt as they were at the backseat of car. I was also not used to wear the belt while being at the back seat too. But this accident should obviously teach a lesson about the importance of wearing belts. The driver of the car tried to take an U-turn when it was hit by another car. The car that came to hit was being driven an elderly person, 82 years old. He is also alive till now.

The accident in Texas was said to happen while tying to overtake a car at the highway. The coincidence was that the other car of this accident was also driven by an elderly person, 72 years old, and he is also said to be alive. Nothing was mentioned about the seat-belts at this accident. Though the driver of the car may have done a mistake, other three Nepali students can still be considered innocent.

We should, and can learn from this accident. It will obviously be a positive effect from this accident if we try to train ourselves about the traffic disciplines or the institutes at kathmandu try to equip the counseled students with these disciplines.

I agree with the fact that Bahadurs have alot of Inferiorty Complex and show it clearly in their communication process which is simply full of prejudice. Well they are the ones who also pay the price in the end in some way or the other. I am generalising on the lost of life we have seen so far but in general people are like that. They waste their on their showing behaviour triggered by Inferiority Complex and not focus on doing constructive things. This is the reason why they are simply lagging behind and most ways.

gwajyo,
Have you thought that there might be some truth behind those news? It is not just for Nepalis, it is true for most teen age related accidents. Please look into the teen driving deaths in US which resembles the accidents of Nepali fellow students. US highways are extremly dangerous, isn't this a time for a reality check?

I dont think it is just inferiority complex. Accidents are the worst that can happen to anyone and if we don't learn from catastrophic accidents, when can we? It is a wakeup call for all of us, to the parents who send their teen age kids to US and for the new drivers.

One of the reasons that makes US highway unsafe in my opinion are the irresponsible and incapable drivers. Otherwise road conditions are one of the best in the world. It is extremely easy to get a driver’s license in USA. I am not comparing it with how it is in Nepal as we know there no strict rule to follow to get one. But in comparison with the developed Asian and European countries, getting US driving license is a piece of cake. And thus, people assume that being able to drive around a neighborhood at low speed, and park parallel which yields in driving license in US means you know how to drive. This is one of the reasons why you see so many reckless drivers around.
Now that being said and talking about the article published in nepalnews.com and the comments in it, it helps highlight the
ever-present, deep rooted inferiority complex in our society among our people. It also shows the condemning nature of our society for every incident, small or big, no matter whose fault it is, ranging from flunking a test to getting accused falsely that lands you in trouble in school.
I would like to share with you my little incident that happened not a long time ago. I was at my friend’s house for and had parked my car on his drive way besides his truck. When he left to get some beer, and pulled his car, he accidentally hit my car and dented it. Next day, I was talking to my family members back home and shared this story only to find out that they thought it was my fault to have parked next to another car. Inferiority Complex, man, Inferiority Complex.

Dont be an idiot hurray... They dont have an inferiority complex just because they thought that maybe you were being an idiot. They are not familiar with the rules or didn't exactly see where you parked or how rather so they assumed maybe it was your fault. I think it was too... who asked your dumbass to park so close to a big truck that it hardly has any room? And ofcourse quality of your friends, too... that dumbass could have asked you to MOVE if he/she couldn't get out! That usually is the Sensible thing to do... Like you said, just because you parrallel parked once and drove slowly in densely populated area to get your liscense doesn't mean YOU can drive... OR PARK!

:) Embrace the truth!

Shiv jee, I was not saying that giving orientation to Nepali students is a bad idea. I said that it should be promoted, and it would help all of us. My only concern was about the article. When we write an article, we have to write both the sides; and we cannot be biased in our writing. In this article, the writer completely ignores the age of other drivers, the driver not being nepali in minnesota, and out of 7 deaths in accident, one person was only the nepali driver. So how come, one can give all the blame to nepali students. I completely agree again about driving safe, taking precautions, wearing belts, giving orientation to nepali students prior to departure at kathmandu, and rest of it. I just simply wanted to point out that we do have inferiority complex, and it makes us really sad when someone blames us when we don't have any faults. This article simply serves as an example of inferiority complex among nepalis.
