Why is Nepli media blaming Nepali students. I read the following this morning in Nepalnews.com and were appalled:

“We were shocked after the news that Nepali students were killed for not following traffic rules. So orientation should be compulsory for them before going there,” she added.

read more here: http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/2006/jan/jan13/news11.php

Do they realize that in the Case of Minnesota the driver was a local 17 year old student? In Texas, the other driver (a 72 year old woman) was at fault and the Nepali students were following the trafic rules and just driving on their lane!!

I am really pissed off at people who automatically think that whenever something goes wrong it's always ... we are to blame!!

Accidents happens due to personal careless of self or others. Many accidents happens in Nepal, in US or in any part of world. Hence it may not be appropriate to link the death with Study in US. Orientation might be a good way to give idea but stil it solely depends on person to person. Traffic Rules are strict in US and requires good knowledge of traffic rules as well as safety rules (Instruction Permit) before receving Driver liscense. ONly the message to be learned is Drive Carefully, Safely and remiaining in Law wherever you are driving.

I don't think Nepalnews blame student for this accident. It is just bringing the fact that we don't have proper training or orientation when we come to US for the first time..That's the fact.. We all know how it feels like being here at the age 18, 19 20 without any guidence..
I belive they are trying to bring awarness..

Before you blame head-on-crash here are the facts on both accidents that should be considered
1. Made a U turn from the right lane
2.Over took another car in one lane highway, when another car was coming on reverse direction.
If you are driving in US you know both of these actions are illegal.

SHIV I agree with you but. They were both due to driving errors. However, how blame Nepali students ... they were innocent victims of all this!

Lalpari,
This is not about race or any other matter. Just look at the facts and decide for yourself and DO NOT make the same mistake when you are driving. ok?
Safe driving.

Lalpari
Daam it ...this discussion is based on the car accident in Minnesota and the linked page of the nepalnews.com posted by the starter of this thread doesnt discuss in detail about the circumstances of the car accident in Texas so how did you reach a conclusion if the occupants of Texas car accident were innocent or not.

And furthermore I guess the article on nepalnews.com can serve as an awareness rather than a blame so I see nothing wrong about the nepalnews story.

Hey people!! Lalpari is trying to say that it wasn't their fault. Have you or anyone else you know always wear seat belts while traveling on the back seat of the car? I know 99% of the people rarely put their seat belts while sitting on a back seat. Everyone knows its safe to do it but hardly anyone does. So, its not about proper orientation. Its a bad luck.. unfortunately our fellow nepalese students who got into an accident happen to sit on the back seat. Thats why they were killed and the front two passengers were saved. So, it was the drivers fault.. but the driver of that car was not Nepali so, i wonder how that orientation will help the fellow students. I don't say the orientation is bad but lack of orientation has nothing to do with these accidents. I have been driving for a long time.,.. but i did too had an accident recently. You never know when that happens but i wonder how that orientation will help. It will only make it hard for the new students to come here.. like those new rules about getting the letter from "SHRAM MANTRALAYA" which is now a paisa kamaune bato for the mantralaya workers. And soon they will make another rule about giving a small exam and taking that "Road Information" patra. Then more people have to bribe to get those letters .
Anyways, accident happens and people should be careful on the roads. But some accidents you cannot avoid. So, hopefully people do more defensive driving.
But, the accidents that happened was not their (Nepalese who died in the accident) fault and has nothing to about being careless or lack of orientation.
Now dont give me that crap about fact written by Nepalnews. How come they did not write those Nepalese were the passengers and not in the driver seat. They said young Nepalese are careless and may be they do. But that has nothing to do with this accident. Its just a being on a wrong place at a wrong time. And even in Nepal so many people are getting killed while driving and thousands here in US. So, u should be giving orientation to each and every person in this whole freakin world.

Nepali students were not to blame in both cases, period.

In MN case: Nepali students were passengers in the backseat. There is no law that requires passengers in the backseat to have seatbelt on. The car was soft-top. So, when the driver (not Nepali) made the fatal (yet often made) mistake of not looking properly before making the U-turn, the other car in the blind spot hit them head-on. This had nothing to do with Nepali Students not following law.

In TX case: The OTHER car's driver overtook the car infront of him/her and hit the car Nepali students were in head-on. Again, this had nothing to do with Nepali students not following the law.

Get the facts straight before making stupid remarks!

I agree with Ubiquitous. Accidents happens to be by chance most of the times and no part of the world is exception to it. At least in US and europe the road law is strict and people try to adhere to it. But to know how much u pose risk urself while on road, u should drive in Nepal, India and other developing countries. Sure, orientation might help but people in US who start driving have to obtain a valid driver license, for which they have to undergo a strict scrutiny. U know how easier it is in Nepal or India to bribe and to get a license. I support the fact that all the nepalese who got killed were an innocent victim. The only precaution u can take is be responsible and caring for ur own life as life is prestigious. Take away massege" safe driving".

Or, may be Mr. Pratibedan Baidya ( nepalnews ) is in process of opening one firm in partnership, just to give orientation / driving class for student charging 5000 rupees per person, who will be flying to US.

I think he dont know exactly what happened in both incident and did very little research before he started typing his article / news. And we all the student here in US know that there is no way you can get license without lerner's permit and you have to go through all the rules and regulation, nothing like you can buy driving license like in nepal.

May be Mr. Pratibedan Baidya is thinking that we can buy US driving licence in liquor store. that's why he believed what Rato Bangala School principal said to him

How the hell he took interview with Rato Bangala Principal instead of Novel Institute. I think RB school belongs to him, may be his fa & ma-in-law or he got money form them for commercial. you guys know how is the nepal's Bording School business...!!!

don't tell me that nepal boarding, institute are going to add another extra class of.... US driving .
