Until last year before Prachanda gave interview to Times of India. There was rumor in Nepal that he does not exist, he is just a mythical figure created by maoist to spread confusion. Some even claimed Gyanendra was actual Prachanda.
But now we all know who he is and what he thinks and how he looks.
So what made prachanda to come out of his underground life to public? What forced maoist to start new war media war publicly?
My thinking is they have finally realized there is no military solution to this problem. They can not win entire Nepal easily, definately not with current militia and definitely not withoutlarge amount of blood shed.
Now since King's feb 1 move is backfiring and he is losing all his international support. I think maoist want to use it for their gain, get international support to form parallel government with 7 parties if King doest not leave on request. This move might not give them US support which has harder stance against them, but I think can definitely give them UN and EU support. But first and foremost they have to do ceasefire unilateral, to prove the world that they really want peace. Also prove that they are ready to go on referendum in question of monarchy and will accept any result of referendum. If maoist play their cards right they have chances to gain from current situation at the cost of Gyanendra's loss.
Now it is upto king whether he still wants to be like stubborn child and ignore maoist point of compromise. Or he will also come one step down and try to reach a compromise. With failed government with no diplomatic wing, about to fail economy there is no way king can crush maoist. He should wake up and realize today's world. Giri and Kamal Thapa are only the dogs that bark they do not have ability to save monarchy and they can not.
This election has proved to be a greatest diplomatic failure for King. It back fired badly.
The government could not manage to get a single country to accept poll result or give credit to the poll.
Moreover, election that was started with motive to break 7 parties alliance by getting them involved into election politics backfired and broke royal alliance instead. Now royal supporters are pointing finger at each other because of election.
Doomsday is near, what else does Gyanendra need to realize his mistakes.
