March 21st 2006. It was the day when I was born, when I stepped my tiny feet in the earth without any credentials. I can’t envisage how I dwelled 20 years of life and was whirling the age 21, the legal age to purchase alcohol products. I have accomplished lot of things and dozen of things are still to be achieved. But today was my special day, an elite day for my significance as well as my first introduction. Other than that, personally, it was also the day to renew my driver license as well as license plate. Packed up by lots of plans, I almost forgot about it. Luckily, it was Wednesday the day when Secretary of state opens till 7:00pm once a week. The moment my work ended at 4pm, I started the engine and here I went to the Secretary of state.
The weather was weird. It looked like snowing real badly but I could see only few drops of snow melting into water as soon as it taps the ground. To be safe, I drove slowly with caution not to be slipped and finally I stepped in The Secretary of State. I couldn’t believe it. Crowd of people with vivid culture and faces were murmuring and waiting consistently in a line. I felt disappeared in the whole crowd but people behind me were calm and patient. I could see only ¾ employees attempting to help the needy customers. There stood a short roughly 5ft 2 inch young pretty lady. I would guess her as an Asian regarding her stature mostly as a Malaysian or Vietnamese. She was assisting customers well or good enough to satisfy the customers to put them in a waiting chair. As I also looked Asian, I approached her with ease for my request for renewal of driver’s license and license plate. As I uttered, she handed me call number 39, the worst number that I can dream. From the childhood, I never had luck with this number, the same dorm number in my hostel, the same roll number in my class and now the same number to be waited for my personal work. My hands were full. All my documents were struggling in hand to be cared. I waited and waited. Just in front of my chair, seated in three chairs was Mexican couple with kids whispering Spanish in their own world. The world where today 30% of the US population speak. After a few minutes, number 37 was called. I took a long breath and inhaled the polluted air from the crowd with lot of ease. I was thinking that now I could catch my class and lab today. Pondering all thoughts in my mind, I tried to find my call number 39. I gasped and was astonished. I lost my call number 39. I looked everywhere, under the chair, near the chair but I couldn’t find it.
