It was May the thirty first, 2005, she met him at a birthday party. She wore a lavender dress with a beautiful pearl pendant. Before she could enter the house, her friends grabbed her to the room with whole bunch of new faces. Her friends introduced her with some of the people. While talking, she noticed some guy checking her out often. Red sixers jersey and baggy pants, boy, did he look hot!, she thought. Anyway, she continued her conversation with her friends but this guy was still noticing her at times. She thought she would go talk but like the way she always is, she waited for him to take for the first step. After a while she started feeling bored because everyone went outside to feel a evening cool breeze at the backyards but she decided not to go, it was summer, grasses were quite tall and she had an grass allergy, so she went upstairs to her friend’s bedroom and looked herself at the mirror, side to side in angles. She remembered that guy at the party and smiled at the mirror, she was doing all these expressions and she put lip gloss and even kissed the mirror. She gasped, “Oh!” All this time the sixers guy had been watching her do all these, she turned blushing like tomatoes. He said, “Sorry for just stepping in like this.” She uneasily smiled at him and said,“ ii..iit’s alright...I just didn’t except you to show up here!.. errrrr.. how you doin’?” “hehe..Good, thanks”, he grinned back. Without letting him go on, “Umm.. “I.. err… gotta go.. see ya around!” she walked out of the room and ran to the bathroom. She gasped heavily and thought, “God, why did he have to come up at this time, arggh! why do I always have to get embarrassed like this!” I am such a jerk, “I must’ve looked so stupid to him acting out alone in my friend’s bedroom, he must’ve thought what a weird girl I am!” She calmed down in a while and walked downstairs and there he was talking to people. She glanced at Jem and he glanced back but she walked away from him. She heard him say, “Excusme, miss!”but she ignored walking away fast. He was following and ran to her and said, “Whoa, where were you? I was looking everywhere!”. “Haha, and why would you look for me?”, she said. “Just.. wanted to talk to ya.. you new here?”, he said. “Oh, no..no.. I thought you were the new one here ‘cause I’ve never seen you around!”. “Well, I’m Jem and you look charming on that dress”, he said. “Aww… thanks, I am Maya.” “That’s a lovely name, what do you do Maya?” “Biology science, second year. I go to the Lethbridge university.” “Wow.. a biology student, can’t beat that! I am a philosophy student at St.Mary’s, doing my second year too.” “Cool”. She said. He continued the conversation, he was funny and like the nicest person in the world. You could never find anyone friendlier than this guy, she thought. It was time for them to leave. Jem drove Maya to her house, they talked in the car, laughed off at every single thing he said. He was very funny type of guy, she didn’t realize how fast the time passed by. She got out of the car and said bye. He turned his car, opened the window and shouted, “By the way, you should be an actor, you’re really good!” “Oh, my god”, she laughed and went in her house. It was around 1 AM, she wasn’t sleepy at all. She looked in her purse for Jem’s email and phone number. She didn’t think it was a good time to phone so she went on msn and added him and he was on too, they chatted. He sent her these “love songs”. She felt like, he was almost asking her out or something. She had an exam the next day, she passed that exam with a 51%. They talked over phone hours everyday, met eachother several times, went to hang out at the Café Gateau, Maya’s favorite and also their “hangout-spot”. They slowly became really close not until he had to go out of the city for some reason. For 2 months, they didn’t have contacts. She missed him and realized that she was in love. She was reading the book, “One Eye Open” which was also Jem’s that he let her borrow it, they both liked horror, her phone rang, it was Jem’s sister, she invited her to the movies. She was surprised Jem was back and didn’t get to know it from Jem. I thought he wanted to give her a surprise. She wore a red outfit, Jem’s favourite color. Jem’s sister said they were already at the movie theatre so they wanted to meet her there. She went there and there he was, the same cute face but there was something wrong, his hand on this girl’s shoulder and her’s on his waist. Maya still thought they were friends. She went up to Jem and stared at him with her eyebrows lifted up for a second, He said, “Oh.. hey!”. That’s all he said “So much for a close friend”, she thought. He acted like he wasn’t close to her at all. She said, “Jem! Oh my, where have you been, you could’ve atleast sent me emails or txts and what about msn, you msn addict?”. “Oh.. it’ just that I was kinda busy with my job, you know my boss’s employees were all on vacation and I had to cover up the work all by myself” “Yeah, yeah!” she said sarcastically. “How are you though, Jem? and.. hi there, you must be Jem’s friend to Rose”, Maya said“Oh, Maya, I forgot to introduce her with you, my girlfriend rose or my fiancé” Jem gave a teasing look at Rose. Rose pushed Jem away, “Hi Maya, I’ve heard a lot of you from Jem!” That one moment, Maya was just stucked there, couldn’t move at all. Her heart burst into pieces. Tears coming out of her eyes, she wiped it off while Jem and Rose were flirting. “Nice, Jem you didn’t tell me you had one?”, Maya said. “Yeah, I met her at my workplace, you know, it’s not been that long.” “Nice to know, I am gonna go, I almost forgot I had an appointment at eight, see ya.” Maya said. “No, you’re not going, you have to watch the movie with us.” Maya was shattered, she still went inside the theatre. Jem and Rose sat beside each other at the corner. Maya sat beside Jem’s sister and other people. The whole time, she sobbed without a noise. She doesn’t even know what movie it was. She couldn’t stand with this anymore, right after the movie was done, she ran outside and without saying bye, drove home. She was broke yet she moved on. The door she was furthering slammed at her face, she gave up and went through the window. She continued her biology science and never, ever in life looked at a guy the way she did at Jem. Guys never understand girl’s feelings or was it her, that didn’t act like she was in love to him, she knew he liked her. She still waited for him to ask her out. Even now, it’s almost been a year, she still thinks how cute he looked with the red jersey and baggy pants, how could she forget that sixers when he is still somewhere in the corner of her heart. Her true but not first love was incomplete. She thought she had asked him out at the café gateau one of those summer days. But what made him turn away from her, Mayaalways thought. It was her fault to not speak out that she was in love and Jem probably thought Maya never liked him. Maya closed her journal and said, “ Guys if you are in love, you should tell, waiting for him/er to tell you that, it’s not gonna work” in the drama class. Jem thought I was really good at acting, Maya laughed off. Sara said, Oh, C’mon, I make people burst into laughter to tears with my acting skills!”

Anyways, thats not the point, nice ending, good job with the "kissing on the mirror" part. very vivid, I could clearly picture that. Wasn;t very comfortable with the girl falling in love with a guy who just looked "HOT". As a second year bio major she should've acted smarter, after all she goes to college, she should know better.
