As always nicely narrated. :)
"Best according to military standards - few half boiled eggs which had their shell adhered to the white like Romeo embraced Juliet were to be eaten unpeeled sometimes".---- just made me laugh.:)

Doesn't Mr. John always appear when Sajha seems to to get little boring?
You are a savor and hope others have no different opinion .:)

hullow Galt bro,
It was nice feeling to read memories of Birendra Sainik(BSAM), with such vivid details and colorful narration...kudos brother...keep writing
Your memories reminded me of mine memories of BSAM....couldn't stop from writing....hope there will be series of more memories coming with time from all sainikians
I was going through the memory lane when we had to wake up before the dawn for the PT ...everyone searched for the reason how to escape the next morning's PT...but all in vain...i spent my 10 years searching for the reasons...i could fool the house masters, but seniors not really ....they knew where they came from !
...i was also going through the memories of how seniors used to bully the juniors....it had been more of a tradition...i used to consider my day a better day if i hadn't been bullied for that day....don't want to remeber those 'stinkiest' socks i had washed....i wasn't less smart then.... dipped in the drum water twice, throw out in the sun for the whole afternoon, and it would be ready by evening when the 'bro' would come searching me ...he would be happy, and so do i !
..also, galt bro's break-fast baji reminded me of our more popular canteen-match-soccer...to those who don't know or forgot what the canteen match soccer is...we used to get canteen (a packet of wai-wai, a packet of coconut biscuit, and few (5?) mango tart chocolate) every other week from our pocket money....and die-hard-soccer-fan as we already were (sorry Galt bro to bring the soccer issue again :D) ....we used to bet our canteen for the soccer match with another player from the rivial team...i wasn't in one of the best color team and neither was my section the best team....hardly did i ever get to taste my canteen ....i would have to wait hours to get my canteen , but before i even get to see what i got ...there would be someone behind my shoulders saying " this canteen is mine, but how about the match again next week?"
...but still all those years of strict discipline and bully from seniors made me who i am today...and i got all these great friends for whole life (even though they never let me eat my canteen)
...salam sainikians ...salam BSAM !

Seniors are always pain in the butt in hostels. We used to have this forbidden game called "capture" where the entire class would compete with each other. If you were captured, you'd be put in literal jail in the isolated territory of the school.

breakfast – the first meal of the day was the best of all. Best according to military standards - few half boiled eggs which had their shell adhered to the white like Romeo embraced Juliet were to be eaten unpeeled sometimes. Few slices of stale bread and a little cup of overly diluted milk were always there for the company as if the trio would make justice to our famished stomach.

you'd be shocked to hear that we only got boiled eggs and bread twice a week. There'd be a mad rush on tuesdays and saturdays for those. Rest of the days..god chapati...chappati and more chappati.

anyways, great going john galt. brought many memories of my school days in the hostel, though running was not my forte, but we played soccer till eternity on holidays.

Hope your story's not done!! Besides the 6-piece bread and the chin-ups to claim them, and those sport+PT hours, there are lot more stuffs worth remembering; I wish I had that narrating capability. Well there's someone here with that expertise, and those memories...-- get going JG!!

(I'm myself BSAM product. Reading this piece is like bringing in mind those days. Actually, I used to hate set of rules that put up us with margins, now thinking back, it was interesting.

Nice Job Galt.

Flippy, thanks for your kind remark,
The truth is the other way round, people are too busy talking about politics and sex that they suddenly find sajha boring when Galt is around.

Dreamz, oh my, I am honored,
How about me being a prude in a sex camp?

Meeru,
For a better sajhaite like you who does not want to discuss sex here, it was certainly not viagra.

born-to-rule,
ah brother, your refreshed my memories of stagnant barrel of water and tiny MI room crammed with PT escapees. Which batch were you?

Mercury,
Was I a better senior student? Did I ever bully you? Nice to hear from you again.

dannyboy,
craving for boiled egg re? it is the easiest food to prepare on earth, boil some water and dip eggs in them.....kaboom....it's ready in five minutes.

Thanks for reading chill,
Were you in dipendra prahari? the only school that served worse food than ours during those days was none other than that one in Sanga.

saajha,
do you remember FLYING?

dear wink,
I often went off the margin, others did too....we tried our best not to...but temptations were many.

mamata,
thanks for reading girl, which batch were you in?

Even though I consider most of my boarding experiences a set of negative foundations in shaping me, I too now and then think about some of them and try to cherish while I still remember.
John, what breakfast was to you, four to five little pieces of chicken was to us. We were served chicken curry every Saturday night, and would bet it on almost anything.
But when I think about my childhood in a guys hostel, I remember that there always would be someone, a bit canny or a bit smart who would always try to rob or outdo others. I cannot believe how someone could sell others an individual drop of Wai_Wai's seasoning mixed with water, claiming it to contain some unknown, sophisticated flavor for one rupees; or a son of a "titaura" seller who used to be barely 10 yrs old could conduct his parents' business in hostel.
