Not everyday does Nepal get the top spot on New York Times. Savor this feat Here is a troubling excerpt:

__________________________________________________________________
The latest turn in Nepal's swift descent came as India, the United States and the European Union urged party leaders to take up the king's offer.

"We think it is the basis on which we can build and move forward," the British ambassador, Keith George Bloomfield, said after meeting with opposition leaders around midday, The Associated Press reported.

Pauli Mustonen, charge d'affaires of the Finnish Embassy, added, also according to The A.P., "We have explained to them that this would lead to a process that could help end the violence and lead to the beginning of democracy."

On Friday, the Bush administration pressed the parties to "respond quickly by choosing a prime minister and a cabinet."

We should resolve that this time around ademocracy is not going to be a "gift" from anyone: not the king, not the foreign countries, nor the political parties. It should be a hard won effort from people's desire. All these countries mentioned have shortchanged Nepal throughout our history. Let them not succeeed again. If these political leaders fail the people again, they should be swept away in the current of change for a new Nepal. Pressure has to be put for them to nake room for new generation leaders at this moment. We do not need these discredited "cartoons" to play with Nepal's future.
