Although there is a sense of belief out there that Wall Street is getting more diverse in terms of its employees, I think it is a bunch of bull crap. Companies on the Street claim that they promote diversity but when it comes to hiring, especially for the good, coveted positions they want their Fu**K*EN white people. THese Managing directors and other F**Ck*ES think that only white people can do these jobs, when on the contrary a lot of qualified minorities can do those jobs with their eyes closed. These mofos think they have some sort of inherant right or privelege to always be a miles ahead of everyone. Mofos, raping the world for profit,,these gore haramis thirst for money can never be quenched. Unfortunately we have to go begging to these chutiaz to get good jobs. All these other IVY LEague mofos have this look on their face as if their shit doesn't stink or something. Overrated mujis. F**UC**K E*M!

Just joking hai...

Greetings All

Racism is human nature.... so get over it..... and don't complain about it ...do what you need to do, be creative, observant, diligent and things will work out...

I know what all of you guys are talking about....but sometimes you really need to step back and evaluate is it really racism.....could it be that maybe others out there might be more talented than me, have more experience....could? so before some one jumps on the racism bandwagon...they should really check it out....

I have hired couple people from India for contract work, I hate to tell you this but some of them are liars and cheats (wow what a revelation).... we had to let them go because they lied about their qualifications....they could not deliver what we needed.... If I was white....they would have said it was racism....truth be told.....they said I let them go because I was Nepali and had chip on my shoulder about them being from bhihar....

the bottom line was they lied on their qualifications...they couldn't deliver...

So before shouting out racism ...really evaluate the situation....

Culture of a company can breed racism.....however, sometime some people can't survive in a particular culture of a company...and good managers are really good at picking this out....so sometimes yes race plays into it....but for survival of the business it is the job of the manager to figure this out.....e.g. Nepali from Nepal...would they fit into Hip Hop world P. Diddys culture...perhaps but most likely. the answer is no....

Culture of a company determines sometime who they need...sometime race plays a hand in that determination....but that is life...

Do what is necessary and survive ......if joe don't like me, john down the street may like me...

People, then explain the stats. We're not talking about some low-level, lowpaying job, we're talking about good, high-paying job. If you guys like wallowing in your mediocrity, then go ahead, wallow as much as you want. We're talking about the big honchos, not some small fry manager nobody cares about. 68% of Americans happen to be non-hispanic Whites(if you include Hispanic Whites as well, the number is higher), but 90+% of CEOs are Whites. Go figure. If America were truly colorblind, then you wouldn't see this big divide I just pointed out.
All you people relying on anecdotes to bolster your point might wanna explain to us all why most of these CEOs are Whites, and not Asians or Blacks. You want us to believe that there is no racism in America just because of your anecdotes? Give me a frigging break. As I said, there are tons of Asians who went to Harvard and all the good schools out there, but most of them just seem to pass out of existence. Here's what Asians do to "prove" that they're truly successful in America: they make a list of all Asians who made it big in the corporate world. Do you guys see what's wrong with this picture? If Asians are really so successful, there would be no need for a list. I'd probably have to write a book if I were to list all White and Jewish bigwigs. Plus, I would like to see a study where Asians who graduated from college are compared to Whites who graduated from college in terms of annual salary. Wanna bet that if these two groups were compared, Whites would come out on top? As I said before, the reason why Asians appear to be more successful than Whites is due to the simple fact that there are more Asians who go to college than there are Whites who do the same. Last I check, only 30% of Whites end up going to college, but 30% is still a huge number--no way can Asians compete with that. Face it, as you climb up the ladder, the color is more and more lily white with no asians around in sight.
In terms of standard deviation, I say Whites are more spread out, while asians cluster more tightly.
Plus, some of the people complaining are insiders and I believe them 100%.

Hmm, come to think of it maybe I need to think a bit more about affirmative action.

Have not gone thru the majority of the postings, but on the primary posting:

Subtle racism definitely exists if stats are to be believed. Personally though, I've not experienced anything of note that has made me feel that I was marginalized because of my race. At times, when they talk about their culture, i.e., baby shower, Easter and some of the norms that they are accustomed to, I have felt a little out of place. But that is not racism. The management, contrary to what lot of others have to say, has been excellent and very appreciative. One or two semi-yuppies who joined as an intern have passed a comment or two in jest when I put forth my views that opposed to theirs on non work related matters. But they are young and so am I, so it's more like buddy- buddy relationship.

Like majority of the corporate entity, ours too does not have anyone of "Asian" minority in management position, except one female, an Indian American, in mid-management position. Like the primary poster illustrated, full-fledged yuppies from Ivies are aplenty in the work force, especially in corporate finance and investment and those are few departments that are paid a little more than majority of others. Majority of mid to upper level management have significant presence from the topnotch schools but I guess the playing field gets even right there as there are plenty of others who are from other decent to so-so schools.

Although, as apparent, Ivy and other topnotch grads have it easy to put one foot in the door initially, I firmly believe that after around 5 or so years, the playing field does get leveled regardless of where you went for school. The bottom line is --> can you deliver?

My career graph has just begun, thus my understanding is rather uncooked. Figures don't lie, and if it is anything to go by, Corporate American is a white nation, unlike any other professional field.

Let's just hope someday, significant number of us would be in position to influence the numbers in some capacity and Corporate America would open the door and would be as welcoming as it is to our white (even black) counter parts.

Until then ---------------> KEEP KNOCKING!

IndisGuise:)

LOL, Asians are not creative, somebody said. In terms of the number of patents per million, Asian countries rule the roost. Japan is right on the top.

" How come it took you so far to realize this???You must have been an American White equivalent in Nepal!!!How irony!!! "

I am assuming that you meant to say how "Ironic." I had to read your post about 6 times before I could understand what you were saying. Your question is insinuating something irrelevant and unnecessary for the purposes of this discussion. I guess you are trying to say that you were a victim of racism in Nepal. Racism is everywhere, Life is not fair, these are all well known, stale and overused cliches to make someone feel better and avoid the real problem. If there is racism and that is the reason behind not getting hired then we should face the beast. Things have to change, and the individuals who endure the impact have to go out and try to change it and slowly they will. My main argument was not that I realized there was racism, but as much as Corporate America claims that Diversity is one of their primary goals, its actions clearly don't reflect that. I have been experiencing that myself, and many of my minority colleagues feel the same way. These are not assumptions like some people here who are just guessing, these comments were out of experience. You can never touch the elite whites, unless you can bring them to you. AKA. OIL!!!

Japan is not all of asia, asia is not only japan....

Creativity is application of innovation not just academic pursuit of it...

In my view, ....Academic pursuit for academic pursuit sake is useless....

85% patents in the world are academic pursuits which have no real value......no application in reality.....

Thugged out if you figure out how many patents that are from Japan are really of use...let me know...but I bet you none of them have really revolutionized the world....

Well, now you're making a distinction between academic and revolutionary creativity. But that wasn't your original premise. Your original premise was that Asians aren't creative, academic or otherwise( and I assume it is their culture that's keeping them down versus European individualism).
I could talk about IQ and what I really believe, but I will piss off a lot of people. So, just go to this blog:

Thugged Out

To me creativity is a practical term..innovation without a practical use is no use to me....

In my view...creativitiy should have this definition...one's use of one's own resrouces and faculty to further one's self and society ....

You know what I take that back....Asians are creative.....they are just lousy at marketing themselves....

Marketing is what the world runs on....

Honestly I dont mind living in a racist western country than my own racist country. I am a second class citizen here and whats wrong if they treat me like one, when in my own country and society I am already getting second class treatment just because I happen to be of different ethnic origin. Here in the west we at least have ever increasing voice against racism.
I cant help laughing when people complain about racism in the west and still carry the same racis view while dealing with the fellow counrty men. ( see all the older sajha post about which nepali race is superior ) .

I decided to leave the country when I could not get a room for rent in Kathmandu, just because I happen to be a RAI and from DHARAN. And that was the only reason why I could not complete my ISC from one of those good colleges in Kathmandu.

I am not blaming anyone , just trying to make my point, that it seems ridiculous when we turn all the blind eyes to the problems of Racism in our own country, our own society wherever we are , our own sajha, AND still find time to complain about racism in WALL STREET.

Rai, I agree with you. I am from the so called "high caste" but I have seen discrimination against the so called "low caste". Let me share one of my experiences. It was few years back, Me and my friend had to go to one remote village in far western Nepal. We were there to design one construction facility. The VDC chairmain invited me to dinner but refused to have dinner with my engineer friend just because he was from the "low caste". i was so angry that we left the place immediately.

Rai,

My Girlfriend is a Rai and im a Bahun. My girlfriend thinks that Mongoloids and newars are much more civilized and hip than chetries and bahuns, and she told me that she had never imagined to be with a bahun ever before. I think thats a reverse racism but i love the gurl so i disregard those comments. But the thing is, racism is from all sides. Every race will show there racist sides when they are on the top of the things. One more thing, about 25 years ago my dad was transfered to Bhaktpur and i was the only nepali speaking kid in the school. meaning the only " bahun" u would not believe what a rough junior school i had with those newars kids at school. I think i made my point. I dont think u were actually a second class citizen in nepal. May be u were second class when u were around other races at places. But im sure in ur own place lke bhojpur and panchthar u were the first class citizen and the rest were second class citizens.

To the guy who started this thread,
I have 2 words for you-------Native American.
Get it, do you even know where you come from? Where is Nepal? Ask your buddy and I'll bet more than half will not even know.
How in the hell did you reach to that level without realizing that racism exist everywhere. I think you're not qualified socially to get that job in the first place.

If you're tryin to show off that you work at the WALL STREET, I'm impressed with your fury.
No offence

"...I think you're not qualified socially to get that job in the first place. "

Hey, Dude.VHOTEE .First of all I don't know who you are and what you do..I don't know what your credentials are and whether you have any credibiltiy to make such an unwarranted and baseless statement or not. You could be someone who putts from the rough and cleans people's bathrooms for a living...WHo knows!! The power of the internet is such that one can act like a Monarch in it to fuel one's ego, or lack of. The point of my post was that through personal experiences I felt that moving ahead in the Corporate World and getting to Management Level is very tough and is filled with red tapes. The fact that what Corporate America advertises itself as is not what it is in Real, infact a lot of people and institutions are not as advertised, it is one bitter reality of life. I wanted to see what other people's opinions regarding this matter was and if anyone had similar experiences. The fact that you are using this mere expression and inquiry of mine as a source for personal attack and assumptions, shows your lack of maturity and intellect. People like you will never learn or progress. 10 years from now you will be at the same place you are at right now and then you will be asking some real tough questions to yourself in retrospect...You are a quintessential LOSER!!!

"Asians are creative.....they are just lousy at marketing themselves.... "

Hey Cambridge, looks like we are on a totally different page here. Are you suggesting that Asians are not good at marketing themselves because of how their genes are encoded(nature), or are you saying that it's due to the fact that they come from a different cultural background(nurture)? If you mean the latter( which I think is the case), then what I'm gonna say is that I was talking about Asian Americans. People who are educated here should have no problems understanding how America works. Also, you gave an example of asians from India with whom you had some problems. So looks to me like your example pertains more to asians from asia and not Asians, born, raised or educated here--or Asian Americans. Asians are the most assimilated groups in America. The word they like to throw around is "model minorities"
P.S. H1B visa holders are totally incompetent. I totally agree with that.
